This is possible, especially if you read twitter's link feed @Raraa post on the below, HJP is actually our first lead after all thus Start Up story was started from him & narrates by Yong Shil, lol.
Regardless it's true or not, the twitter link's feeds are so interesting, well observant & so beautiful to read.

Waahhhh thank you so much for sharing!!! It's such an interesting read, so well observant. If it's true then the writing is deeper than we thought, reminds me of Encounter & HDL where behind every scenes there's a hidden meaning lays inside.

True, do we really give too much credits to them? But if not, why else would they bother to ruin their very own main lead's character like this?
The thing is, it's not that a dorky, nerd & naive ML is unpopular for viewers, because actually that kind of ML is even more of my type. I also won't came up as disliking NDS character if he have a more well reserved attitude & not salty (petty?) while unfair & use HJP background to his advantage the most like he did. Now his character only left me a bitter taste. She could just write NDS character to be more symphatetic, but she did not.

For instance if they write it like Taek & Jung Hwan from Reply 1988, the competition between the main & second lead are great, fair & not full with pettiness like this.

Here, they even highlight how NDS is that "petty" & so eager to win an upper hand from HJP with that childish exclusive beach date & that "plan B". Like, how are we supposed to react or feel if they show his character like that? Root for him? How?

So I don't get why the writer intentionally make a very complex, layered, mature second lead character with depth & had the most tragic backstory, while written a weak main lead character with no integrity complete with childishness, only to make the main lead triumph over the second ML later & let the most well written character here suffers for nothing?

I'm really confuse here, unless the writer purposely written their character like that because she intend to throw her uno reverse card on us later at the end *cough 2nd lead gets the girl *cough, or FL end up with no one *cough

Because with a writing like this, I find them stupid if they didn't acknowledge it already before hand that the 2nd lead will stole viewers heart the most.
And looking at the writer's previous work, well, she doesn't look anywhere near stupid.

And if you think I'm bias, then let me tell you something, many people start this drama for NJH (I'm one of them) only to discover KSH & rooting for HJP instead.
NJH is doing a great job portraying his character well, but the writing is veryyyyy unfavoring for him.
So I clearly don't get why the writer intentionally expose the weakness of her main lead character like this if they want us viewers to root for him, which I never would given how they had made his character into.

He is not a pure nerd, he is an opportunist nerd. And even IF like you said most guy would do such length (I pity them, really), then it means people shd normalize it & be proud of it.
He lacks integrity & even if many people chose the same way like he did (which I doubt), it doesn't change the fact that what he did is wrong & you can't blame people who judge him for that.
A realistic approach is one thing, for instance to show how there's alot criminals action in cities, BUT to normalize a wrong action is a total different thing, for instance to show how stealing is okay manipulating is okay because many people apparently do that. Notice the difference?

Apparently his world revolves around Dalmi & Dalmi only, his ambition, his dream, his target,his personality, everything is non existent & all replace by Dalmi. Seriously, he's too clingy, overbearing, lacks integrity & spiteful for a supposed to be ML we shd root for. No matter how I love NJH (starting this drama for him but discover KSH instead), I can't root for NDS!

True, he is too clingy & lacks integrity. I find him too overbearing & suffocating.

If you see their chemistry, that's fine, lol, no need to be butthurt.

They can give all those slowmo, beautiful sunset & romance theme to NDS-SDM all they want, but I'm sorry it's a fake out chemistry, real chemistry doesn't need those kind of scenes to help them emphasize it more how they had chemistry.
Real chemistry can be shown at the smallest little things, like HJP-SDM moment even when it's very minimal.
That minimal scene even give a bigger impact than every NDS-DM scenes compile together.

Ikr, his worry & insecurity is not baseless, from orphan pov every people around him are strangers, this world without any relative & such are scary.

Will they only give HJP hardship after hardships? As if his hardship isn't even enough, can't even he catch a break already?
Why do I feel the writer so sadistic towards his character? Am hurting as him hurting too TT

Though actually part of me kinda happy for KSH too, as I believe this will be his chance to shine & fleshing his character even more, like am happy for KSH but so sad for HJP if that even make sense x')

Who would hv thought that his words back then will bite his ass back like this at the end.
I feel bad for him, feels like reality check how an orphan will never have anyone to back him up nor become someone else's priority

I have so many problem with the writing of NDS, or NDS as a character.
Not only how he is so ungrateful even when he have such a loving parents & best friends to support him.
I also dislike how he kept HJP being in the dark regarding grandma eyes.
if he can tell DM when grandma asked him not to, why can't he do the same to HJP?
Is it because revealing the truth to DM will benefit him, because he's the one who will consol her?
While he can't do the same to JP, even knowing how she meant for him, because it will give JP the benefit rather than himself?
Writer-nim, do you really expect us to root for him? Like, seriously??

I know! Not only they don't have the courtesy to ask him to tag along but they have to dump & make him feel like a bug, am so pissed grr..

I'm very dissapointed with Haelmoni this episode, in fact I'm very much upset rn & think HJP shd hv just leave all of them behind & move somewhere else.
Haelmoni dragged him into this mess, give him nothing but pain and basically throw him under the bus! I definitely expect something more from her! I can't understand her way of thinking!!
Oh well, NDS & haelmoni probably suit eachother better, they both are best at lying.

Ikr, I thought what defines a good drama is if there's a good moral message behind, not a cheap move message to learn after, I guess the writer think it differently (if she make NDS her end game, still holding on my last strand of hope it won't be the case tho), lol

Ikr, there's no way back once HJP stole our heart from the get go and it's not helping when they made NDS did some questionable choice I disagree with. And yes, HJP character is written so complex & layered, it makes NDS looks plain.
I don't get why the writer would throw such a great character like this only to put him as the 2nd ML when he is the most interesting character & reason for a lot of people to stay, what a waste.

Ikr, I don't get what the writer's intention is, but if the writer intend to make us viewers root for DM-NDS as a couple, clearly it's a total failure, how can I root for them if they make their story like this, am not buying it.
