That lady wu never thought she is that smart, she was able to threaten zhan ji own attendant to poison him, fortunately he didn't get the chance. Instead she was able to poison Zi Jin by using su yue hua, and pins the blame on the empress. Yue hua is so pitiful, she was use by you yi fan and now lady wu. She seems to have feeling for you yi fan, too bad he doesn't care about her. I once thought they could have been good for each other, but both of them are too into themselves to be anything other than accomplices.
Zi ping is so smart to figure out who was involved in the poison of Zi Jin, and speak up to defend Zi Jin and the empress from lady wu. She is not the same old Zi ping who loves to gossip, and get mad easily. Good for her.

I'm taking my time watching this drama because I want to wait for more episodes, it's a good thing we can watch with 1 ep a day again. Agree the later eps gotten even better. In term of it being dragged, it's the opposite for me since ep 29 zhan ji became an emperor it just gotten more interesting. This is nothing compares to yanxi palace, in that drama the fl didn't get together with the emperor until half of the show, then she and the emperor gotten separated or acted coldly toward each other, or the emperor ignores her etc, that type of relationship where they're playing mind game with each other gotten old quickly. I was able to watch to the end because of my love for the fl and fuheng only. The emperor is a prick his treatment of his women left a lot to be desired. That's true, it's much harder to see things clearly when you're the one who is being lie to, just as zhan ji has his own reason for fooling both the empress and Zi Jin, I don't think he did it on purpose since she wasn't the target, but she was still hurt since she got really emotional defending her friend, and all along it was just an act. The same with zhan ji and his brother, he got worried looking for his brother, but it turns out to be planned by zi Jin and his brother, her purpose wasn't just for him to get some time alone with his brother, but also for him to see what's happening outside that those servants were hiding from him. The boy was his brother from a different mother and not his nephew, and you're right it's human nature to get mad when we realize we're being lied to or manipulated, even though zi Jin help the boy but he was mad at her for using him. Same with the empress, she was hurt when she find out the emperor was only testing her by interrogating those people who worked in the kitchen, and the same when she found out Zi ping cooking for her has Zi Jin's hand in it. She was really happy with Zi ping cooking, but once she found out Zi Jin was involved, she was going to dismiss Zi ping from cooking for her if zi Jin hasn't convinced her by mentioning the emperor. As an empress she hasn't been doing her duty as an empress because of her sickness.

Don't know if you're watching royal feast, fl is also in it. It's also a food drama. So many food dramas out at the same time, I find it weird for this type of release schedule.

Who said that will hinder her strength, the way he let her hear him talk about his business or let her offer her opinion about his business just shows a level of trust he hasn't share with his other women. He's also very affectionate towards her. I can't help but compare this drama to yanxi palace, wei yingluo and the emperor always playing mind game, she could never be truly truthful to him, I didn't feel her deep affection for the emperor or vice versa between the two of them like I see in this drama between zi Jin and zhan ji. Zi Jin is so different from wei yingluo, she's gentle, affectionate, and do many things for zhan ji as a wife does for her husband. She doesn't have to play game with the emperor to keep him interested in her.

Matron meng gotten what she wanted, but in the end she has to give up everything to save her daughter from punishment. Yue hua shouldn't be allowed to cook anymore, even though she was save by her mom taking the punishment for her, she doesn't learn her lesson. The production of this drama spend six months doing research just on the recipes and presentation for this drama, so maybe it's your aesthetic that's the problem I didn't see anything wrong with the presentation just a bit simple, I guess the aesthetic of that time is just different from today's standard. Watch some of the vids on YouTube that talks about the making of this drama, and the painstaking efforts go into producing all these different delicacies, the costumes and headdresses, such a great production ^^

I think the empress dowager see something in zi Jin and feel she's the one who could be his partner to help him as his wife like how she did for her husband, being an empress is to care for the people and think for the benefits of the country and not just for her own benefits. Zhan ji finally learns about zi Jin's illness and apologizes. He truly loves her, so even when he is angry at her and she's being punished, she still get companies, her friend cook good foods for her, and he even come to sleep with her, I'm just so jealous of how caring he's to her, this is how an emperor treats his favorite woman ^^ Thinking this to yanxi palace when the emperor was angry with yingluo and punished her, she was totally isolated, her servants would get bully by other servants, she was starved and mistreated by those who were serving her all because she wasn't favor by the emperor at the time.
