In fact, their boat date and the assassin plotline and the following setup worked great. But this love-me-love-me-not, I hope we're moving on from it tomorrow.

FL needs her own plotline to come fast, their constant back and forth for the last two eps have really slowed down the otherwise tense episodes.

The butler went half and half, he hid the weapon and showed the wires only - if he didn't show the wires he would come under ZH's suspicions.

It would make complete sense if he's the one who's keeping the eye on ZH for the Marquis but is helping ZH instead, so he helps build the Marquis's trust towards ZH. Maybe he pulled the weapon out of the incense but only showed the gold wires to the Marquis. At the same time he communicates the happenings inside the Marquis household to whichever team he really plays for. He also kept Zhuang Zhifu and Jiang Xiang away conveniently so the Marquis and ZH could share a moment. He's helping in facilitating their bond.

I rewatched the scene where the butler informs Jiang Xiang and Zhuang Zhifu about the fire (and that they're not needed for now) and am strongly starting to suspect that the butler plays for some other team.

ZH making ZZX kill PJH makes me so worried for ZZX. Filial piety was a big thing back then and patricide would completely ruin ZZX even if his father was wicked man.

And also all the previous aides in the Marquis house knew about the seal. Even Yang Zhen and Chu Huaiming who were incompetent and not so clever (Chu Huaiming didn't even completely belong to the Marquis). So it's only natural that the Marquis would put ZH to the task as well.

Maybe the Marquis, Cao eunuch and the third person had some previous silent agreement about finding the seal peacefully. The real dogfight starts when someone actually manages to find it.
