Yes, TROTR is fantasy isekai. İ wouldn't classify The Untamed as Xianxia, it has elements of it but it's basically fantasy Wuxia with cultivation.

The only character İ like besides the main leads Jiang Zhan, Si's brother. Everyone else is forgettable.

You're rigjt, Xianxia must have demons, gods, immortal sects, etc. to be classified as Xianxia. TROTAR is not Xianxia, but it has elements of Wuxia, but it's not pure Wuxia either.

Also, I hate the one dimensional track of all the sisters arcs being about their marriages. I wish they had done something different with at least a couple of them. İ guess the multitude of side stories is to make up for this lack of diversity in writing.

I hated him too, but he seemed so pitiful. Besides the fact that he killed his wife, he was cheating on her with someone he clearly hated. Yet, he had some redeeming qualities, so my hatred for him is rooted in understanding the inner turmoil he was going through. In his own way, he loved his wife, and he hated himself as much as he hated the princess. At first, I thought he did it to protect his family, but it became apparent that he coveted power more. Xue Li's only lament to him was that if he had confided in her, she would have let him go. Instead, he chose to kill her while trying to shift the blame onto his mother, sister, and the princess in his mind, convincing himself that they made him do it. But remember, the princess was actually surprised he killed her; she never explicitly asked him to kill Xue Li. She just wanted Xue Li to be vilified and out of his life so she could take him for herself. So yeah, Shen Yurong was one of the craziest villains in the show, who, till the end, believed that he was the one wronged.

lol, I'm on episode 20 trying to binge this and I just realised this show is not over yet. Why did İ think it had 34 episodes!🤦🏼‍♀️

İ agree, each villan had a reason for why they were so unhinged. Even the husband who burried her alive had so much depth, İ couldn't hate him throughout the show. İn comparison, the villans in this show are just plain vile for the fun of it. So far, the only villain who seemed to have a reason for his disgusting behaviour was first sisters husband, because he was beaten as a child. Everyone else just enjoys being evil for no reason.

Romance of Tiger and Rose is not a Xianxia, it has Wuxia elements though.

The princess in The Double was a psycho İ sympathised with, she still had some redeemable qualities. The princess in Si Jin is someone İ wish death upon as soon as she opens her mouth, she's just pure evil for the purpose of being evil. Her character has 0 depth.

I agree with you on Waning being phenomenal. While there are other actresses who could have pulled it off as well, I disagree on WJ being subpar. You can dislike her acting, but it doesn't take away from the fact that she did brilliantly in The Double.

No, this was not something Lu Si could pull off. XFF is a tragically powerful character and she was played extremely well. Lu Si has a similar show LLTG and while she's a delicate actress, she really couldn't bring the strength Wu Jinyan brings to this role.

the mother, her and uncle were my favourite characters after the main leads. She has such a sweet voice.

I don't understand the hate for RM. She's beautiful, has very expressive eyes. While I'm not a huge fan of her voice (Compared to her, Dong Si Yi's voice sounds way cuter) it eventually grows on you. I thought she looked beautiful in Rise of Ning, her outfits could have been designed better, but overall she looked really beautiful in the show.

Any recommendations for a show with a ML like Lu Jiaxue? Featuring a morally grey, villainous male lead who ends up with the girl, set in a historical context? While I adore the story of the main leads, I can’t help but secretly root for Lu Jiaxue.
