bad things happen in life. rape is one of the bad things that happens, just as murder is one of the bad things…
You know what I find exciting? The scene has been criticized so often. But I haven't seen any complaints about him causing a bad accident where he at least accepted that someone would die. I've read comments that yes, instead of being raped, the boy should have been beaten up. That would be ok. I always wonder, when something is said about this scene again, why violence is measured in different ways... I have at least been given a perspective, albeit one that I don't necessarily understand.
And the theme that fiction is not reality and that fiction is allowed to do what is rejected/evaluated differently in reality is also difficult to convey in this context. My insight so far: everything is allowed to happen in a BL except rape (even if it is not romanticized). Even murder is less bad than that...
this show was made for the Bad Buddy/Kinn Porsche crowd, those who found those shows to be great masterpieces.…
Haha. There you are! I've been expecting you (and missed your rant and our exchange a bit 😄) Since I'm having a good time with the show, I knew your verdict would be scathing 😅 How many episodes did you get through?
I think this became the highest rated BL in MDL with 8.9, beating Jack & Joker.
First place is a double top, with RL moving up to Our Youth. Jack and Joker shares second place with I Feel You Linger in the Air (uncut). The latter was number 1 for a longer time.
That's quite possible, yesterday someone said that the media are not allowed/doing something in this context today. But since I don't know what it is anymore, I don't want to start any rumors here.
In any case, the person said that it was therefore important that the statement from the agency with which XN is under contract came out yesterday.
So today there were important threshold and plot points.
First, WSW confesses his feelings. Surprisingly honest and straightforward.
Then the rescue of the snakes in which so much becomes visible. The importance of Huang Long, who also represents CC's past, which he gives up after a final inner struggle. Huang Long, who also represents a danger to WSW, slowly creeping up, slowly crawling up and wrapping him up until he has him in a tight stranglehold. CC's attempt to ask him to let go of WSW. Huang Long's implication that he hears him and lets go, only to really tighten up. WSW sacrificing himself for CC's happiness. It all seems like a dark prophecy of the future....
We also learn that Xiao Cubao is not necessarily so important to CC because it was a gift from Wang Shuo, but because he is a metaphor for CC. Xiao Cubao, the loner who doesn't let anyone get close to him. Xiao Cubao, who fell for WSW after the first encounter, after the first feeding, just like it happens to CC. Xiao Cubao, whom WSW cares for devotedly and lovingly, protects him and builds a special place for him where he can feel comfortable and at home. This makes it clear in the flashback that CC knew from the moment WSW fed Xiao Cubao that WSW was his special person. He knows that WSW will build him a home where he will be comfortable and it explains why CC treats WSW the way he treats him...
The snake plot has completely unfolded....
Now what? Huang Long is gone. Yet...
In the end, a black car drove up and Shuai smiled.... It's not Cheng Yu because he's driving a light colored car. It won't be CC, then why would Shuai smile so warmly? To me, this only leads to 2 conclusions:
A) WSW returns from the hospital (and is driven by CC) - but in the evening? Mmmmh. Not so convincing for me.
B) It's someone with whom he has at least a good, friendly connection... His ex? Possibly. Or the ex's brother aka CC's ex? My guess is that Wang Shuo gets out of the car. The dangerous snake for WSW has shed its skin, the next chapter begins...
That would also explain the lack of a preview for me. A breaking point.
One question I have: When CC's sister says to YY “the tea tastes good”, is that a general cultural Chinese way of saying “get lost” or is it just a choice in the show?
Also fans thinking that Xian and Zi Yu are going to be in multiple series after this and have fanmeets are kind…
But were they facts or speculation? I know the situation like any_anka. For example, I also took part in a few lives. Between Dong Qin and Benjamin. I think the teacher (also from China) was also there. And I know of lives where the cast was there and Dong Qin was on the phone because he was at work. So I wouldn't necessarily classify these reports as facts.
As time goes on, stories are becoming increasingly bland due to constant censorship. In the U.S., romance has…
Mmh, ok, I'll try to sort everything out a bit here.
Honestly, I don't like comments that try to silence you or insult you personally (even though I've learned that some people like to rant a bit, but don't actually mean it in a hurtful way. I still don't think it's okay, because you don't know each other at first). We should all remember that there is a person behind the screen and that a different opinion is allowed and that problematic behavior should also be addressed.
What confuses me is that I have the feeling that you sometimes talk about BLs in general and sometimes about RL, because some statements don't fit RL. “that somehow making stories that tell it's viewers that if you love someone you should get them drunk and rape them is OK.”, for example, is such a statement. Because that doesn't happen in RL. And yes, I also refuse to romanticize something like that. And yes, there are very dubious stories. As for the “straight guy turns gay” issue, I see it differently. I rather see that this person has a limited view of his own sexuality and now recognizes his spectrum, i.e. being bi- or pansexual or having straight relationships, because it is the social norm and only through the corresponding encounter does it become apparent that one is homosexual. This is particularly the case in very conservative countries, because people don't want to be outsiders.
You say to GOT: “He didn't rape her because he loved her, he raped her because she was his property and it wasn't rape in his eyes.” - I think with that statement, you would have to grant CC his revenge on the boy in Revenged Love. After all, he also sees him as property, property that has betrayed him. After all, he “won” him in the snake fight. Personally, I don't like the scene and I think it would have been better to leave it out. I tolerate it as a character description, just like I tolerate the rape of Drogo in GOT because it's a work of fiction and as I said, I see that as a character description. For CC it is the description: he doesn't care about others. However, he was not involved in the rape (after all, he left him in danger), nor does he do such a thing to WSW to generate love through it. That is a significant difference for me. And I think we should differentiate here. The character description is also shown by the car accident, for example. I didn't read any comments about this in the comment section, for example. I commented here some time ago, for example, on why many people condemn the rape but not the physical violence, such as the car accident. Personally, I find violence of any kind equally bad and I have also experienced different perspectives through the responses.
But as I said, I tolerate it as a description of the starting point.
In other BLs it's different, there it comes to a rape by a ML/ a part of a later relationship and it's then presented as a form of love. That doesn't happen in RL. The rape is not romanticized here either. So that also fits with your statement “They also showed other rapes in the show and did not romance them, they showed them for being a terrible act of violence against someone.” So I think your criticism in general of the problematic nature of the BL genre is justified. But not necessarily tenable for RL. However, the underlying novel must be very toxic. Because the author herself distanced herself and said you should watch this version and not read the novel. So she is aware of old mistakes and is now working differently. I think you have to give her credit for this further development...
Perhaps one more comment on the BL community. Over time, I've learned that there are fans in the community who are among the most toxic I've ever seen. This is especially true for certain fandoms of Ships. I.e. this comment section is actually quite peaceful.
However, the fact that you are being attacked is not okay. Because wanting to see healthy love stories is a good thing. However, I think everyone should be allowed to enjoy the drama. Just like you should be allowed to criticize or dislike the show. Maybe the rejection hurts the people because they like it a lot and you get their hurt feelings unfiltered. To the commenter I was referring to, perhaps I'd like to say protectively that he was responding to my post and not to you directly. It doesn't mean that he approves of the insults. But I think we should generally stand up for freedom of expression and against insults in such cases. I can also recommend the block button. Sometimes it's better for peace of mind...
agreed 1000000%thai, korea and japan bl are now all the same scripts i tried to watch somes but its like watching…
I agree with any_anka. JBLs are the most unique, creative and diverse in terms of narrative quality and are not afraid to break new ground. I'm just thinking of Futtara Doshaburi, for example. JBLs are generally the BLs with the most depth for me.
In my opinion, CBLs can be a class of their own, especially in the fantasy/historical field (+Stay with me 😁). For me, they definitely have the potential to be right at the top.
With Thai BLs, I see the problem of “mass instead of class”, the idolization of the actors and, above all, monopolization, which is not good for creativity.
Also fans thinking that Xian and Zi Yu are going to be in multiple series after this and have fanmeets are kind…
It would be news to me that Dong Qin was forbidden to do anything with Benjamin. As far as I know, both were in Macau at the fan meeting and, above all, both wanted to shoot the 2nd season of The On1y One with all uncensored consequences. Dong Qin emphasized that he was looking forward to the continuation. The fact that it won't come to that is not due to any government but to the shady production company that ruined everything.
As for I know the chinese fan they always behave like this. They need to grow up. What a stupid behaviour is this.…
"They need to grow up " I'm just thinking of the thirty-something woman with a suitcase in her hand who had the chutzpah to want to crack Jungkook's front door code and linger there to see him... *Hope leaves the room*
The rating says nothing at all. Only 8 out of 24 episodes have been published. Many have not even given a rating.…
A completed drama and an ongoing drama where only 1/3 of the episodes are out so far are simply not comparable. The rating on MDL is dynamic with every episode. For example, The On1y One had a rating of 8.7/8.8 during the airing in between and is at 8.3 after the last episode.
BLs also have to contend with homophobia and pointless fan wars when it comes to ratings. The only BLs that are overrated compared to straight dramas of similar quality are Thai dramas because of the shipping culture. But JBL, KBL and Taiwan? No. You can find real gems in the 7.x. range.
If I now compare the first episodes of Boys over Flower with the released episodes here, the series is simply worse in direct comparison. Because the outstanding feature of RL is the chemistry, the natural flow of the main characters. That's what viewers enjoy. More so than when you have a perfectly edited series but lead actors who don't captivate you as much. As I said, the rating is simply totally subjective.
What I don't understand is why you can't simply allow the series their (interim) success. It simply indicates that viewers are enjoying the series. Let them have fun and in the end you'll see where the series settles.
I genuinely enjoy this drama and love watching it but i do think the 8.9 rating is a bit inflated.Yes, its entertaining…
The rating says nothing at all. Only 8 out of 24 episodes have been published. Many have not even given a rating. It's just a tendency that a lot of people like it and that it's worth watching...
I think it's too short-sighted to blame the rating on the fact that it's an uncensored CBL. But what definitely raises the rating is the chemistry between the main characters. Plus the fact that we witness them gradually falling in love, which feels quite natural... With this chemistry, a normal drama would have at least the same or a similarly high rating... The chemistry of the two, the flow that comes from watching it, the agony of waiting, the anticipation, all of that is reflected in the trend here. Ratings on MDL are totally subjective. As mentioned, Thai BLs are often rated higher compared to other countries, due to the consistent ships and their marketing. But it's also fair to say that straight dramas on MDL tend to be rated higher compared to BLs of the same quality...
Personally, I don't really care about the rating here and this focus, whether 8.9, 9.1 or 8.3, is hard for me to understand. The main thing for me is that it's fun to watch and makes my heart smile in some way.
I think after episode 4 you'll change your mind and by episode 6 you'll be addicted to them...
This is an interesting rule because it really leaves room to make a fair judgment... I tend to have the problem with C dramas that I like the first 2/3 and after that I often die off.
Personally, I also found the first 2 episodes a bit cringe, but I also have a place in my heart when it gets really absurd because it kind of amuses me...
However, there's a dynamic and a flow that gradually develops between the main characters that captures you and I think it really takes off from the 6th episode onwards...
The author thinks it only gets really good from episode 9 onwards, which is why she actually wanted to release the first 8 episodes all at once.
Heaven Official's Blessing has already been filmed? Why am I only finding out about it now? Just exactly 5 minutes ago? 😱 I love it! Great, now I'm waiting for the release...
But honestly, the two main characters didn't convince me at first sight... They don't match my imagination in the pictures. However, that may change in the moving image. But hey, I'm more than positively surprised by the Earth Master!
I read it was banned. Is that why it can't be sold to international platforms?
Be glad you only have to wait 14:30h for the next episode, we've been like this for 5 days 😅
Haha, the only thing that helps is to repeat the published episodes and succumb to the sweet agony together with us 😅 At least we have each other and it's better to suffer together.
I always wonder, when something is said about this scene again, why violence is measured in different ways... I have at least been given a perspective, albeit one that I don't necessarily understand.
