The comments section is full of bickering between two groups: those who fancy themselves worldly adults accustomed to nudity, and those who act like angels—claiming never to have seen a naked body in their lives—yet both sides behave like children. I think he knows she willnever agree, and he thinks he can make this work between them ( which why the slow one sided courting) . So he may had thought he could just change the plan, and win her after marrying her. The decree was to force her saying yes to, because there is no way she would have agreed otherwise

Okay so ML didn’t discuss cause then we won’t have angsty plot. (I mostly think it’s cause he knew she’d refuse for sure and meantime SML will propose, no time to woo her, with the stupid Han singing w her every 2 hours)

● first of all, he's insane XD I saw some people here in the comments talk about how the ML finally proposed and how they're feeling bad for Scholar Han and whatever, so I knew marriage was coming soon but I did NOT know he was gonna go through the EMPEROR and my jaw was on the floooorrrrrr omg that's gotta be the most unhinged way a main couple got married in a cdrama 😭
● I honestly couldn't care less that he didn't discuss it with the rest of them (including her parents lmao. hot take, I guess.) but I HATE that he didn't discuss it with HER. It's such a sign of disrespect to force your way into marrying someone without at least testing the waters to see if the person is willing... On the other hand, this paves the way for a (one sided) enemies to lovers plot, so I'm not THAT mad, it's more of a "I'm only laughing cuz it ain't me" kinda situation. I would spiral and lose my mind if I were her.
● On the same topic, I hated scholar Han for the same reason. And what cemented it even more for me was the scene after, where he told her "I know you don't have feelings for me." When that came on, I had to take off my earphones like confrontational women take off their earrings when they're about to fight someone. You KNEW?? Oh REALLY?? You knew and you still were trying to marry her? Maaan don't piss me off. I don't feel bad for him idc.
● Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I only heard the word "wife" and I did not hear "concubine" once, so I'm assuming she's gonna be a main wife. If that's the case, why were her parents upset to the point of almost committing treason and breaking the emperor's word? I understand why it was upsetting, but surely it's not THAT upsetting to them? They liked the ML and they clearly don't mind marrying her off without her permission, since that's what they were doing anyways. I'm guessing because they believe she'll be bullied, but she won't really be in a lowly position, and she's not the type of person to allow people to bully her.
● Is the singer/actress actually her sister, or was that just her remembering her sister?
● I absolutely adored that scene after ML got whipped. I think the show-makers captured a very specific type of moment that most people felt at some point in their lives. When something horrible happens to you, and then the people in your life (friends and family) sit around you and joke about it and make you laugh in a situation where you would've otherwise cried on your own. It was such a memorable and beautiful scene.
● This is the third female villain we got! And despite her being the archetype of a scorned woman, she still managed to be more interesting than her villain father.
● The girl (courtesan?) that her parents bought the freedom of, I have a feeling she's some important noblewoman that's gonna come back and help the FL in some way. The creators have proven themselves as good storytellers so far, and every good storyteller knows that you don't give that much attention to a character that's gonna be irrelevant to the plot.

what the ML did was terribly wrong as it was selfish (but let’s not forget undeniably brilliant) move because in their world, the emperor’s words are absolute, however, it’s hard not to feel bad for Lanxiang because in the previous episodes, Lanxiang would bide her time to get herself out of a bad situation, this time she couldn’t because again, the emperor’s word are absolute. Though there’s death as the other option but it goes against her mother’s last word: live
i mean, no one ever died from falling from a cliff in cdrama, but wtf is that lazy explaination. Somehow we miraculously survive... how is this different from " somehow, Palpatine returned" ?

Also nice addition in this ep how Scholar Lu implicitly understood Lan Xiang's true family origins!
