They can REALLY act!!! I like the story well enough but I think it's the acting that makes this drama special.
I was watching Ep5 today with Cheng Yi as YY. He was really so much more mature than Yang Zi. The scene where he stands outside and offers to copy the heavenly rules for her and then goes into her room. He's cajoling, cool and lofty but somehow completely besotted with Yan Dan at the same time. Yang Zi as Yan Dan during these eps is like a one woman uncontrollable ball of energy and mayhem.
It was a huge contrast to today's recent eps where he's like a lost puppy and Yang Zi (as Yan Dan) looks like she's trying to hold it together and manage a situation that's about to break her.
Omg I’m bawling. My poor baby TZ. They really put the trial in Mortal Trial as just about every sh*t thing has happened to him. YY gets the girl first and will get the girl later. TZ just gets a damn trial!
I don’t care that they are the same person! This is a love triangle for me. Oh the poor thing. He just wants to die whilst being loved by her.
I can appreciate Yan Dan’s predicament too. She has to save TZ, return him as YY, guard her heart for his eventual return as YY, all while managing a situation where a love struck TZ is chasing her. It’s a miracle my girl is not having a meltdown yet.

I've found that with this drama, because the leads have such intense chemistry and their love story is so epic, it really stands out so I struggle with episodes that don't have the YD and TZ front and centre.
With other dramas I tend to find the main love story just fine so I'm quite happy watching the side stories for other characters because everyone is equally competent and entertaining enough but no one is that special.
Them going on a date in the Gourd was everything I didn't know I needed🥰😍
It's a beautiful homage to their own love story. Yan Dan and Tang Zhou. That gourd has always been their own thing so I loved that it played a part in their relationship. I wanted them to have their own moment.

Yan Dan is the best!!!!! She navigates the line between being true to herself whilst still being kind and compassionate perfectly.
She's so bubbly, fun and lively but intelligent and pragmatic too. I liked that a few eps back she was firm when she needed to be but with TZ's situation she adapted right away because he clearly needed her support and strength. Love her so much!!!
So many cute shippy moments. I really like how they've done that. I feel like Yan Dan is meeting and dating TZ all over again and he definitely should know that she cares about him by now. She's fussed over him heaps in this ep. I'm feeling a little less tortured about TZ. I feel like he's getting Yan Dan's love and care. Perhaps in a different way to YY but he does have her to himself for a bit.
On a more shallow note, that scene where they were eating cakes together, they were both STUNNING!!! Seriously their features were extra stunning in that scene. It was ridiculous how good looking they were.
I liked that when push came to shove Yan Dan was ready to defend herself on the off chance that TZ wasn't going to save her. She's wasn't going to take bullying from anyone. That's my girl!!!
TZ's line about not being able to bully her anymore broke my heart. He just wanted to chase her around, have adventures and threaten her with the gourd😭😭😭
I really like YuMo. I know he loves YD but I actually feel like he's suffering from TZ's deteriorating condition too. To me it's believable that they have a bond and friendship outside of YD. That's rare in a show and I appreciate it.
