I've noticed it more and more over the last year, but mostly only for Thai BLs with rabid fandoms. It's odd to me that some have decided that MDL should be a fan page to praise their favs, instead of the discussion board that it actually is.

Film/show criticism is literally a major in college, but some people think any criticism, non-positive comments or highlighting areas that could be improved makes the commenter deserving of personal attacks or name calling. As if protecting tv characters supersedes basic human kindness. I think the anonymity of the internet make it easier for some people to bully people who disagree with them. But BL fandom isn't huge and most people who use this site don't leave comments. I worry that the "don't watch it" crowd are turning more and more would be fans away and that's not good for any of us.

It seems like some people are really loving it, while other BL fans aren't tuning in. I think it's great if some people love it. I love OffGun and want them to keep picking projects they enjoy. This series just isn't for me.

Seek help. Your opinion does not nullify anyone else's. We are all allowed to express our opinions. If you can't handle reading an opinion you disagree with, DON'T READ IT.

MDL does not require people to leave only comments you like. It is a discussion board where people post their thoughts and opinions on shows and movies they watch. There are 1000s of discussion boards just like it for shows and movies all over the world. People watch shows and movies for a variety of reasons and blind praise isn't the only one.

Art subjective, but making shows is a business. GMMTV is a business and if their shows don't do well in Thailand or internationally, that is not good for the company's bottom line. This show's low youtube views won't destroy the company or OffGun's career, but it is a data point that can be compared to OffGun's previous series and the company's other BLs. Just because you love this show doesn't mean that many other BL fans do. Arguing with me or anyone else on here doesn't change the quality of the series and it definitely doesn't make people like myself who aren't watching it, more inclined to start it.

I'm not going to continue this conversation with you, because my post was not for you. It was for the original poster of this thread and arguing with a person who has only seen OffGun BLs who I don't know over a series I'm NOT watching is a waste of my time.

Another boring ep, nothing much happens. I skip all supportive couples, so uninteresting. I might have to drop…
I really respect you for posting your opinions. This is obviously not the type of MDL page that allows for differing views, so I won't be picking up this series.

But it's amazing to see the "if you don't say only positive things about the series, shut up/get out/stop watching" crowd go after someone for sharing their opinion about a series that can't even get 400k views per segment per episode. This is GMMTV'S lowest watched (on YouTube) BL series in a long time. And I think it's sad that some people don't understand that driving away more viewers is not a good way to support a series or their favs.

@zamperx I hope you continue to post your thoughts.

It's not a 6.1. The first episode was bad, but the 2nd episode was much better when it only focused on the 4 leads. Everything else is skippable. But if I compare this to Our Story, I like that this one isn't as chaotic or filled with endless drama and lies.

I also mostly like this series, but the rape was a low point in the series that I won't forget.

I did watch My Stand In. I liked the beginning, but overall it was slightly above average and the main thing that kept me from disliking it was the strong acting. The writing wasn't great IMO.

Ok. I have not read anything written by the author so I can't comment on that. But if the writer is that problematic and companies keep buying the rights to the writer's works, the companies should also blame themselves if the series get backlash.

I avoided all spoilers and trailers so I had no idea what the show was about. But after I watched Bible and Jes in Spaceless, I thought this would be the best series of the year.

I don't know what I just watched, but the first episode was very busy and very intriguing. I can't wait to see more and think it will be awesome to binge watch this once it all airs and everything has been explained. I'm guessing there are a lot of important details thar can only be fully appreciated on a second viewing. I'm looking forward to episode 2.

I have no idea if you're trying to jusyify what we just watched or not. But every novel that was adapted into a show or movie was altered in some way for the screen. Sometimes the original author is also the screenwriter, but blocking, sound queues, set design and other things all play a vital role in writing a show/movie.

When the writing team and crew decided to adapt an old novel into a BL in 2024, I would expect that they would understand that the people watching the series would be people living in 2024. They are of course within their right to be extremely faithful to the source material, but audiences of today are also within our right to say we don't want to watch that kind of content.

A large portion of BL fans don't even feel comfortable writing the words rape, sexual assault or non-consent. That audience is unlikely to give a pass to what recently happened on the show. And the writing team should have understood thar BEFORE they including that scene.

This show was always going to be compared with some of the greatest historical Chinese "BLs" and upsetting a large segment of their audience just to stay faithful to an old novel many of the viewers never read, was a choice. But one that may cost them in the long run.
On I Saw You in My Dream Jul 27, 2024
Funny how all of the comments are positive but the rating is low. When I saw 7.5 I knew it had to be pretty bad and it was. I always try to give shows from smaller companies a chance but it was hard to get through the 1st episode even with 2x speed.

I think we're in a weird phase of BL where some companies (usually in Thailand) keep churning out bland/generic series, but other companies are creating must see tv week after week. When I watch a series with realistic characters and compelling storylines, it's really hard to follow it with something like I Saw You in My Dream.

If this is had come out 4+ years ago all "P'Yu" and childish antics might have been acceptable or even endearing. But when the majority of the cast are in their mid twenties, it's hard to enjoy a show where the characters behave like 10-14 year olds. It's distracting. If kids had been cast in these roles, I'd be fine. But these are adults. I won't into detail on the acting, writing or even the camerawork, but all of that was a miss for me.

I feel kinda bad for the actors though, I do think the rating is accurate, but I'm sure if this aired on GMMTV it would be rated 8 or higher. This feels exactly like something that would be made by GMMTV and that's not a compliment. Unfortunately for the people who made this show, there are no die hard fans inflating the numbers. Oh well, I'll be skipping this series. But I hope it improves.

Who knew watching a really old man's idea of a romantic date would be so adorable. His "cool" old person clothes, him saving a little girl from creeps, the long winded confessions and friendship with Chu make Great Great Grandpa San my favorite old man in BL. But I know episode 7 is gonna break my heart.
On Meet You at the Blossom Jul 26, 2024
For me episode 5 was a highlight, but episode 6 was a LOW point. It reminded me of all the reasons I never miss Chinese "BL". Non-consent (or whatever that was), endless exposition and a sea of tears. I was exhausted and not at all entertained.

I'll continue to watch because I want to support the team who took a chance and made this series, but I hope future episodes aren't as miserable as 6. The show works when it's lighthearted and ridiculous with Huai En being the most serious man in ever room. When it focuses on other things it quickly becomes grating.

Aaw poor Xiaobao. He is too naive. He doesn't think bad of other people and their intentions. He's silly, stupid…
I'm not sure if you wrote this response after episode 5 or 6, but my comment was after 5. Ignoring the events of episode 6, I know Xiaobao is all the things you said, but he shouldn't have stayed at the brothel and gotten drunk.

My thoughts on the situation changed almost completely after watching episode 6. But I'm avoiding spoilers and just letting the series play out.

The latter part of this BL is much better than the beginning imo, the whole basketball gangster gambler criminal…
Thank you for this comment. I put this on hold after the first few episodes, but I'm going to catch up since it's gotten better.

I rarely say this about JBLs and I haven't read the manga, but this premise doesn't seem very entertaining. I hope it's worth watching though.
On Meet You at the Blossom Jul 25, 2024
I really love this show. It's mostly a bunch of side quests, but it's fun and leads are wonderful together. I do feel bad for the people at the brothel though, but Xiaoboa brought this on himself!
On I Hear the Sunspot Jul 24, 2024
Omg!!! Episode 5 was so perfect. I LOVE that the characters all feel like real people living in the real world. I LOVE the mom and grandpa. I LOVE the super emotional conversations between Taichi and Kohei. I LOVE the confessions. I LOVE this show!!!!!!

The acting is just so strong that other shows look even more amateur by comparison. I felt like I could see Taichi falling in love with Kohei as Kohei's mom talked to him. It was so subtle but the look in his eyes showed it. It may not be a romantic love yet, but he loves him as a person and that is so beautiful!!

This was great. It's always fascinating to look at MDL ratings for LGBTQ series/movies that aren't BL. Audiences who are looking for a love story between "boys" are always disappointed when they see a story about gay people living their lives and all the hardships, scars, pain and growth that comes with life. Sometimes I think we need a lot more LGBTQ series/movies and less BLs so people can start to realize that gay people are people and not characters in a modern day fairytale.

I strongly recommend this and thought the ending was perfect.

They're giving Pinoy BL Tyler Perry energy . We watch thinking, hire someone else to write the scripts!
Right, it looks good, the sound is fine, the acting is above average when compared to other BLs, but the writing/directing are always laughably bad.
