One of the worst in My Universe and the only one I watched on 2x speed. I liked the leads in Destiny Seeker, but they were given almost nothing to do here. This was mainly about two things that I don't want to focus on when watching BL, it was mostly told from the perspective of two loud and irritating fujoshis and also featured anti-gay parents.

I barely saw the couple together and couldn't get attached to their relationship.

That was really good. The acting was wonderful. At first I thought both leads weren't very convincing, but as the story unfolded, their behavior made sense and felt very realistic/believable. I never expected to see Mild playing a character like that, but he also did a good job.

My only criticism is that it wasn't clear from the beginning that they were twins. Since I didn't read anything about plot or watch the trailer in advance, I wasn't sure that they were related until near the end. I probably would have appreciated the first episode more if I knew from the start.
On Takara's Treasure Jul 16, 2024
That was genuinely one of the scariest situations I've seen in a a BL. I knew the minute I saw him on the bus that that uncle was creepy. I'm so glad Takara got there fast.

I agree. I have no problem with people overlooking things in a show like this one, but I can't. I hope you enjoy it though.

Art is subjective, if you like it, that's cool. Plenty of people do and plenty don't.

I'm not watching either series. And yes this one is better than many Thai BLs, but I'm done lowering my standards or giving a pass to poorly written series just because I like the leads. I personally think buying a person is wrong, but I won't judge anyone who's enjoying it, I sat through more than half of this series and have finished series that were much worse.

Boring, dull and at times whiny. If you like Peat and Fort you may enjoy some of it though.
You'll probably want to skip this one then 😉

I think GMMTV does do stories like what you are describing, just not this story. This is mean to be fluffy. I…
It could happen. TayNew played adults in their recent series and EarthMix and KristSing have upcoming shows where they play more mature roles. But I wonder if any those scripts will be made for a younger audience or not. OffGun on the other hand, seem to want to continue with younger roles, but I'm pretty sure that's Gun's decision.

I know what you mean by the word "femme" but that's not a term I personally use because I prefer not to put people in boxes based on based on hetero normative standards. But I also know that GMMTV doesn't have many actors on their roster that could be classified that way. The ones that are there are often side characters. Probably because their target audience prefers leading men who are usually straight and play gay on tv and maintain "relationships" with their shipmate indefinitely. But that's another conversation.

I actually gave that a 10/10 and watched it when it originally aired. I thought it didn't have much rewatch value, funny that I forgot all about it a year later. But I agree with you, it was mature and much better than most GMMTV series.
This is definitely a product of its time, meaning it feels like a story from the 90s. Which is when the original novel was released. This remake isn't as good as the original film. Idk if they plan to make sequels, but since the first film series improved as it went along, I'd be willing to stick around for the next one.

Anyone watching this who hasn't seen/read the originals will probably be very bored and confused. It spends the majority of the time showing things, but not really giving the why behind then. It almost feels like a play with little exposition. And actors just going through the motions.

My big problem with a lot of gmmtvs recent productions is that they seem have to be given up completely to even…
I've been watching BL since 2017 and share your opinion about the declining quality of many series. You have seen some of the best series of all time. I've seen hundreds (great, good and extremely bad) and you're right, the writing and acting can be disappointing. And many shows rely on sex to bring in audiences, but I've never seen a good show with bad writing/acting and great sex scenes. The quality of the writing matters most to me.

I am looking forward to the 3 you listed and many others. I honestly think 2024 has been one of the best years for BL, but not Thai BL. I like Gawin too and My Golden Blood is my most anticipated series of the year. And I also expect Kidnap and Ossan's Love to be decent. IMO My Stand In is probably the best Thai BL of the year, but it's not perfect.

Yes, like many fandoms, BL fans are often problematic and delusional. But I can't only blame the fans. Thai BL companies can get very rich marketing these imaginary couples to fans by selling series, concerts, fanmeets and merch. And theearly ships got big endorsements, songs, multiple series and money because of these ships. GMMTV was a big driver in creating the concept of ships in the early days. And fans who were lied to about these "relationships" really didn't know any better all those years ago. When someone you trust lies to you for years and years, you're bound to be confused and delusional. That's one of the issues with perisocial relationships. But actors, companies and fans all benefit in some ways from shipping cuture, but it can turn toxic at any time and unfortunately sometimes people (actors, romantic partners and fans) suffer because of it. Truth and honesty are the only things that will shift the culture. I see lots of progress on that front, but it's going to take time for things to change completely though.

I agree about Cherry Magic. I thought it was just ok. I have watched all of P'Aof's GMMTV BLs and some of them are amoung my favorite Thai BLs. But some of the scripts feel repetitive and Moonlight Chicken was the only one that focused a lot on adult themes. I think he's the best director they have, but I also know one man can't direct everything. They need stronger writers and more directors who are on par with Aof or things won't improve.

I made it further than I thought I would, but it's time for me to drop this. I stuck around because of Peat Forth's chemistry, but the plot has gone from fun to frustrating to offensive.

Love Sea is a modern day Pretty Woman, which might be cute if it wasn't so poorly written. I've been watching Thai BL for a long time, so I get it, even though the most Thai people are darker than Fort, most actors and rich peope in Asia are much lighter than him. Colorism exists, people who benefit from it rarely see it as a big deal, people who don't can see it a mile away. The origins of colorism come down to class and race. So having the live in prostitute's skin color come up again feels super gross and unnecessary.

Mut had agency on the island. In Bangkok he is a prostitute who also cooks and is now a driver. Rak'a family problems are kinda interesting, but when the lead character literally buys a person, it's impossible for me to feel sympathy for him.

I won't bother going into the predictable jealousy stuff that happened this week, because I don't care. The outcome of every scenario in this series is obvious the second it's introduced and I can't be bothered to watch another minute of this series. But I wish Peat, Fort and all the actors in shows written by Mame the best of luck, they're gonna need it.

I don't think the show is bad if you know what to expect. It might be fun to binge watch and I think it's better than most recent GMMTV series. But it is VERY fluffy and unserious.

I'm not watching We Are so I can't comment on that. And I loved Not Me, but it was about college students. Moonlight Chicken was also great IMO, but the high school students were the draw for many people. I can't recall many GMMTV BLs that did not have college or high school students as main characters. So I was looking forward to this one, because the trailer made it seem more focused on things grown ups experience.

I'm not against an adult romcom or comedy. But I do find it odd that a show about sex buddies has devolved into a show with balls (the hospital gala), clown costumes, stealing kisses and college student council.

But I know this is the show they wanted to make. And some people are enjoying it. I'm not watching any other GMMTV shows now and I don't care about Ter or Taem. I think the show could have been lighthearted and fluffy, but also focused on what Yak is going through emotionally and Dee trying to find someone who really loves him. But I'm not a writer and no one forced me to watch this.

I feel the same way. Kissing doesn't feel like a huge deal to me when I've literally watched these people have sex for weeks. IMO Moonlight Chicken was the last great GMMTV BL, but I also know their target audience didn't like the main story and preferred the characters played by Gemini and Forth.
That would he fine if their viewership numbers for series these days were even close to what they were a few years ago, but they aren't. The majority of fans that used to watch GMMTV BLs have stopped watching and now all that's left are people who want endless fluff. Oh well, I'm just glad this is ending soon and that other companies are making good/great BLs that aren't only made for kids.

Yeah certainly true the plot has also been reduced to is a character going to be able to make another character's…
This is why I've mostly given up on GMMTV series. This is the only one I'm watching now and I'm not really looking forward to their upcoming series because I know they'll either be made for kids or be constant fluff or start off good and then drop in quality quickly and spend the rest of the series repeating the same tired tropes over and over.

You are right. I was hoping for a mature series, but with GMMTV's track record, I should have known that that was never gonna happen.
