I'm excited for this, but also concerned about what may be happening on set. These old predators are really everywhere in the BL industry 😩.
On Blossom Campus May 17, 2024
After 7 years of Strongberry consistently making fantastic series/short films that told a variety of gay stories, I can honestly say I didn't see this coming. Part of me is thinking that this was just a joke, but I watched the whole thing and I know it wasn't.

I think I learned more about the professer than I did about the main characters. I didn't dislike it, but I didn't really feel anything. It just kinda happened and then it was over. If you're watching for the kisses, you can just skip to the final episode.

Title House of Stars Spoiler
Continuing on my journey of bad Thai BLs brought me here and I'm conflicted. Yes. War of Y walked so this could…
Usually lakorn BLs fail because the audiences for both genres don't really overlap. This was a perfect example of why they fail. So many useless characters, uninteresting plot twists, drama for the sake of drama, conflict for the sake of conflict, jealousy, a murder mystery, phony people and phony relationships. All that can work in a soap/lakorn, but most BL fans want to see guys falling in love. You sorta get that here, but in the end there's only one happy couple and a bunch saddness, lies, cheating and a death I couldn't bother to care about.

This is basically 4 stories being told at the same time. And while they all have moments that were interesting, none got enough time to be fully fleshed out and things just sorta happen. Wayha and Wayu were the typical BL couple so of course I liked them. Gun was the only good actor in the house and I never disliked him. Pitch and So bored me. Pawin, Korn and Mintra had the most entertaining storyline. But it was also trashy and reminded me too much of the bad old days with Plenpleng (Together with Me). Lalit didn't need to be on the show. And the actress playing Suzy deserved better because the character was awful and the main source of all the problems in the house.

I know we're supposed to suspend disbelief, but I will never understand why some BL writers are obsessed with stories about evil/tyrant/selfish managers. Most managers are overworked, underpaid and just trying to keep their idol in the spotlight. This type of story is not interesting in world where GMMTV, BOC and Mandee are the only big BL companies. Suzy's star house was just silly and too ridiculous to not roll my eyes at repeatedly. Actors don't sit around the house in fancy clothes all day and fans know that. Why write about actors if you know nothing about the lives of actors!?!?!?! I'll stop ranting, but this would have been so much better with less characters. Or a cast of real actors who were given an actual plot.

Continuing on my journey of bad Thai BLs brought me here and I'm conflicted. Yes. War of Y walked so this could run and it was long and mostly unpleasant to watch, but there were some truly entertaining moments that were peak lakorn foolishness! I think if you plan to watch it, try to avoid spoilers because it will be much more entertaining if you don't know the plot.

I'm going to add spoiler comments below. But overall, this was not the worst series of the 2023. But it was pretty forgettable. Besides Pepo, Rudklao and Mie the acting was bad. I'd be surprised if any of the other "actors" got leading roles in the future. But I rated it higher than most of the other bad BLs, so there's that.
On Work From Heart May 13, 2024
I tried watching this back when it originally aired but gave up after 2 episodes. But now that I'm on my journey through bad Thai BLs I'm back. Since I've already seen the worse 2022 had to offer this was almost watchable.

Criticizing this series kinda feels like bullying because it was so bad it ended the careers of its stars and was the last DV8 production, so I won't bother. But I will say I saw potential in the "story" and it was nice to see so many LGBTQ+ characters in one series. I wouldn't recommend this but compared to Fahlanruk and Physical Therapy at least this show had the decency to be short.
On Wandee Goodday May 12, 2024
Omg I am absolutely LOVING this series. It's funny but also has complex characters. I really appreciate Inn's ability to show vulnerability in his characters. Some actors would have portrayed Wandee as just a brat, but Inn is showing that Wandee has many layers and that is great. Great is also great!!
On You Never Eat Alone May 12, 2024
This might have been good as a mini series. I liked the actors and Zee and Peak had me convinced that they wanted to make a BL but some how signed up for a very long commercial about a boy who's sad ALL THE TIME and makes meals with sauce for himself and his neighbor.

The premise was sweet and the focus on mental health was respectful and well done. Unfortunately it was very repetitive and Diew's endless pity party got old quickly. I cared about his situation, but his obvious depression didn't match the tone of the rest of the story. And since no besides Mix did anything to help him, I found myself wishing we'd spent more time with Mix since he was also going through a lot but we barely knew what or why.

I've seen much worse, but this is way too long to recommend unless you really love the actors and are very bored.

completely agree i was giggling and kicking my feet seeing aksorn and songjam's cute interactions. but kyo being…
You bring up a great point. I am ok with age gaps as long as both characters are adults. People evolve/grow over time. But the writers made it seem like the young version of Songjam was the same emotionally and mentally as Kyo. That's too absurd for me to accept. Even young people are going to be different in some ways after 5 or 10 years. But Kyo lived through his 20s, 30s and part of his 40s but we saw no change. This is why I think the time jump was not a good idea. It creates too many questions and they provided no real answers to anything. Just smiles, hand holding and love confessions.
On Memory in the Letter May 12, 2024
In the end I liked it, but didn't love it. Last week I said I wished there was no time jump and I stand by that. I didn't dislike Kyo and his never ending love for Aksorn was beautiful. But since he was a side character for most of the series, to have him effectively replace Songjam at the end was bit of a let down. Yes I know they're the same person, but their relationships with Aksorn were completely different and because the people who made the series didn't give the audience enough time to see Kyo and Aksorn's relationship evolve, I couldn't get invested in it.

The last episode went out of its way to avoid showing the difficult conversations or to tackle the tough questions around what happened and how Aksorn and the other characters (the dad) would logically react to the situation. Everything was simplified and quickly resolved. Yeah I love happy endings, but the love I saw across worlds between Songjam and Aksorn was what made the show interesting for me. And the love they showed between Aksorn and Kyo in the finale wasn't on par with the one between the 1st Songjam and Aksorn.

This is still one of the better supernatural BLs out there so I would recommend it. And since the ending won't be a surprise for binge watchers, you'll probably be less let down than some of us who watched it as it aired.
On Deep Night Special Episode May 11, 2024
That's 45 minutes I can never get back. Since Thai BLs have gotten increasingly lazy in recent years, I didn't think Deep Night was unwatchable when compared to most other 18+ Thai BLs. But I can't recall seeing a special episode for a Thai BL that was worth watching. And this wasn't.

Yesterday I watched the special episode for You Are Mine. So I'm forced to compare both episodes and am reminded that while some countries have improved the quality of BLs in recent years, Thailand is doing the opposite.

This was 95% flashbacks and the few minutes of new content added nothing of substance to the characters or their relationships. I know that often happens with special episodes for mediocre series, but I can't give this a pass when this feels like a cash grab from a company who doesn't respect the audience abd who isn't helping the careers of their actors.

Title My Stand-In
I can't remember the last time I watched a series where one of the MLs made my blood boil so much!!!!!!! But the reddest flag aka Ming makes me want to scream 🤬🤬🤬🤬. And I kinda love that about the show, because Up and Poom are both really great actors and I'm fully invested in this story.

It's such a treat to watch a Thai BL where the actors aren't just random guys who seem like they read the script once, said some lines on camera and expected to be the next big ship. Everyone involved in the production clearly worked very hard and I'm soooooo glad they actually have a real story and not just something that feels like a generic fanfic written for an undiscerning teenage audience.

I'm also really glad Joe figured out Ming's motivations this early in the series. It makes me hopeful that soon we will get back to the present day and Joe can start rebuilding his life. But even if that doesn't happen soon, the show is still great.
On You Are Mine Special May 11, 2024
It's wonderful to see the BL gods continue to bless us in 2024! I've never seen a special episode for a medicore series that was this good. Perfect wish fulfillment for the audience and I'm complaining AT ALL.

For me, You Are Mine was the most disappointing Taiwanese BL of last year because it had so much potential. Both actors were great and the premise was unique. But the show dragged things our for so long with the cat and mouse game that I became increasingly frustrated with both characters in the second half. I wish this special episode was the final episode. These two happy and in love together was exactly what I wanted for them. And even though I rarely judge a series based on kiss quality, Taiwanese actors keep showing everyone else how it should be done and I love that 👏👏👏

Title Two Worlds
Since I gave up on expecting a well written story many weeks ago, I was able to get some good laughs from episode 9. Just when I thought the maguffin poop fruit was the most ridiculous part of the episode, the "writers" remembered they forgot to have a second couple. Kinda like Thai forgot about Jao. But it was fine, being bloodied in a ditch for hours is no match for horniness! Because the "writers" ALWAYS do there best to provide the audience with a VERY long awkwardly filmed sex scene and they did not disappoint this week. I guess Jao's leg magically healed and someone left see through underwear in that random cabin, which worked out great because we got to see a lot of butt but no balls. Yay I guess. At least it ends next week because my brain can't take much more of this foolishness.
On At 25:00, in Akasaka May 10, 2024
I tried to stick with it because JBLs have always been my favorite, but I'm done. I see that many commenters identify with Yuki and I would love to do as well, but I don't. I have not read the manga and have no idea how the story unfolds. But I came for a BL and to this point there have been BL "moments" and they will obviously end up together. But I'm not invested in their relationship at all.

Because I know so little about their backgrounds and motivations, all of their actions feel scripted or forced. Maybe it's because I have fatigue from seeing too many sullen, "awkward", mildly confused, mildly depressed, almost mute ukes and I want more depth. All of those personality traits could be VERY relatable if I knew why he's like this. Some backstory to show me how or why he became like this. But we're almost half way through and I see him reacting like a fish out of water in all of these situations that he wants to be in and I'm just bored.

I also have no idea why Asami behaves the way he does. He just feels like the typical "cool" seme and that's it. I LOVE character driven stories, but I don't love this. I don't like it either. Clearly I'm missing something, so I'll take my opinions and leave.

Feel free to follow this up with Coffee Melody, it's a good sedative.
I watched that when it originally aired.
On Bake Me Please Special Episode May 8, 2024
After watching this I'm convinced that Shin's "friends" hate him and are actively trying to sabotage his relationship. Like all BL special episodes, this was pointless. Unless you really loved the series and want to spend a couple more minutes with this couple, I'd say skip it.

But I still like all of the actors.

I honestly didn't see the twist coming. And I didn't even think of the age gap as an issue, but I usually like…
Hmm, a "really good" recommendation from you feels like bad news for me. Is it "good" like Our Story or Deep Night or an actual series with actors and a plot? 🤔
On Wandee Goodday May 5, 2024
This has been one of my most anticipated series of 2024 since it was announced last year and episode 1 DID NOT DISAPPOINT! I've become exhausted by gmmtv scripts, it feels like the same thing over and over year after year. So for me, this is a breath of fresh air. An adult cast and adult theme, I'm soooooo here for it. The episode was so funny, I can't wait for next week.
