Guys I’m halfway through ep. 4 and a little confused as to why the Eunuch is holding court and pontificating? is this normal? Also, what’s going on with MWY’s brother? the dynamic seems very off.

and to add insult to injury she thinks it’s YCX that had soldiers set fire to the house they were in. even though the only person who threatened to kill her was her nut job half sister! you couldn’t make it up 💀
I’m at the half way ish point of ep. 22 and I still don’t get why YPJ is still entertaining JXT! He’s lied to her, put her in danger from those lies and cheated on her and yet he seems to get a more lenient treatment than YCX! YPJ is slowly driving me nuts with her warped logic. it’s clear she has feelings for YCX and obviously with what’s happened with her father and ZT, things are very tense so I understand why she wants to up and leave but damn, she’s killing me here 😅
on ep. 3 and the ML has her staying in his garage… she’s the only thing keeping him alive and he can’t even give her a proper bedroom in his mausoleum of a house?? wth 🤦🏻♀️
I just started ep. 16 and not once has the FL asked about her mother or gone to see her? or did I black out and she did?? because she’s been in Redleaf with YCX for a while now, right? I understand she’s under a lot of stress being stuck there but still…
For those who want to watch the show on IQIYI but it isn't available in their region: I used my VPN and set it to Jakarta, signed up for a new account via Viu and chose the "Ultimate Asian Pass" membership for 1 month. It cost me €2.30 (I was worried they might only accept an Indonesian payment method, but I was able to use my EU debit card). I can now login into IQIYI on my phone and tv and watch the show once I have my VPN on. The key here is to make VIU think you're in Indonesia while creating the account before heading over to IQIYI and signing in. This method might be too troublesome for most people, but if you're determined to watch the show with proper subtitling and decent quality, it is worth it.

I was able to use an Indonesian server via VPN and the show was listed on IQIYI and started to play but I couldn’t bring up English subtitles but it wouldn’t show on the app only the browser.

I just finished ep. 20 and the reunion after a 5 year separation was not it. it was so underwhelming…. I was expecting so much more from it. it was like he’d only been gone a few weeks, as if they hadn’t been separated and not in a good way. he really hasn’t done much to reassure her and knowing she was in the capital and letting her fall into vicious rumours about him not marrying her yet and her being over the hill at 24… it’s really rubbed me the wrong way. they’ve always been a team and communicated so well and he just didn’t do any of that this time around when he is now the more powerful one in the relationship. it’s like he’s forgotten how vulnerable she is, especially being unmarried. it’s pissing me off that it’s been 6-7 years and this guy still hasn’t married her! please tell me he grovels and he gets his head out of his ass??
I’ll reserve my judgement until I see it myself. thanks for letting me know. I always kind of dislike when the former friend gets a redemption arc if they’ve done something bad to the FL/ML.
I started this for KGE but the first 4 episodes were hard to get through. I’m on episode 8 and the FL has told the ML that she loves him. These leads have spent so little time together and most of it was her thinking he was crazy, so I cannot believe that she loves him or he her really. The pacing is all over the place and the plot has unexplainable holes in it. My head hurts trying to make sense of it. Plus, the FL & ML have very little chemistry. My question is: should I keep going? does it get better?
Truly loved everything about this show; from the cinematography, to the acting to the plot— it was everything a kdrama should be or at least aspire to be.
My only gripe was the ML’s decision to break away from FL to marry for her “safety”.
He allowed fear of his father to rule his mind and it pissed me off that he pulled the rug out from under the FL at such a vulnerable moment to break her heart.
It showed how men have all the freedom to do as they wish, where women, or in this case, the King, have their hands tied as they are bound to the rules that they are confined to.
I had hoped he would appease his father and inform the FL of what the ML’s father had threatened and they could’ve worked together to make a decision.
When he didn’t listen to the FL in the early episodes to leave her and the palace, he did as he wished— leaving the first time or staying in the palace, but when she tried to do the same to him, he shut her out and walked away.
I don’t think he fully grasped the gravity of the situation he was leaving her in and the devastation she felt after he did that to her; her father did it to her and she suffered alone for years because of it.
To me, I didn’t think he was the right fit for her; her cousin sacrificed himself for her and devoted himself to her from day one and even in the end, he took her place and gave her the freedom that she should’ve had all those years ago.
I think the ML’s last minute decision to leave her really made me turn against him as her love interest because ultimately, he took the easy way out. He wasn’t protecting her as he was either going to leave with his new wife or stay within the palace and the FL would be forced to live with her lover married and possibly with children down the line and have to keep her mouth shut.
I know it’s just a show at the end of the day, but that shit would be a deal breaker for me 😐
With all that said, I immensely enjoyed this show and the ending where the cousin and her staff come to see her on the beach was a beautiful way to end such a poignant show!
I put this on pause after ep 23 because it felt like it stagnated quite a bit. I am sick to death of this audit business and the FL putting herself into dangerous situations which the ML has to constantly sacrifice himself for. I’m 7 mins into ep 24 and it cannot keep my attention. I need someone to tell me when this picks up and when these two get together finally because I’m losing the will to live watching it. It’s a shame because prior to ep 20, I was binging this every day.
K-Drama
