JH is not a villain because she is not a FL. She is a villain bc she did some mean things, like asking YR to help her catch JP without first asking YR where she stands, competing with YR, acting mean towards YR.
JH is shallow and immature, her dream is to be pretty and looked at, and her main dream and question for the future is the next minute, to find out if she won the peagant.

YR is portrayed as goody goody but she is an indirect villain, an ENABLER, by being a doormat.
HOWEVER, that is even worse bc in life, YR is very strong and a leader, she organized the bus girls, etc
So she is capable and strong and a hard worker
and it is even worse bc she is a doormat servant at home and to JP.

so this cunningly potrays a super woman, working hard at work AND at home, always serving others.

Overal this is a great piece of mass manipulation :)

This drama is about realistic immature people and TOXIC relationships from real daily life. Imo this drama should be a required watch for students in counseling and psychiatry, as a study in toxicity because you can dig through the layers and you can see the comments of the audience and realize the toxicity and false beliefs in the society.
**** So this drama is useful for analyzing toxicity, like a dissection class at th medical school lets you see all the raw details.. **** In other words, this drama stinks and it will show you the rotting and hidden parts and you need to see that only once to understand. The audience's comments are a part of dissecting the toxicity.

But just exposing toxicity is not art.... Just like doing dissection and knowing anatomy does not make you a medical doctor capable of helping people.

Someone needs to start producing real art, with solutions, ie. some healing ideas and solutions.

We watch toxic people all day in our daily lives and we do NOT need to watch toxic people for 12 hours on tv too. WE NEED SOLUTIONS, THE HEALING IDEAS. Mass media just does not provide it, seems intentional....

That is why imo this drama skillfully and cunningly endorses "1950s" type of people and relationships as commendable, so in fact it promotes the status quo in sexism, catering to men, women competing and backstabing each other for men, shallow ambition of being in a peagant, shallow ambition of waiting around a guy, women not thinking further than their nose, men ennjoying privileges and personal servants for free, etc. This drama could have been set in Goreo or Joseon or before, and it would be the SAME plot.
And that dead-end just stating problems and never showing any hope for any solution is the trademark of western media.
For a piece of art to be truly a piece of art, it has to give some ideas for solutions and has to show some transformation.

They do :) Check out comments in dailies on MDL. Esp Eagle Brothers kdrama taught me that most of those viewers are older. Europe is older too.

THAT IS MORE THAN ENOUGH. ***** SHE RISKED HER LIFE AND DAUGHTER'S LIFE TO KEEP HIM ALIVE **** THA IS ENOUGH. SHE IS DONE ****** She does not owe him anything and esp not love. In fact their marriage had no love for a very long time. She was dead already.
That man just receives money from her so that he is not left on the street - and she sacrificed her life and daughter's life to get the money -

so what more do you want from her??? What kind of "healer" are you? If you still think you are some healer by trying to tie her down to that man, then what kind of healing is it, burrying people alive? Some kind of sexism going on, expecting impossible from the woman?

ML is perfect for shady roles, bc he can make a grumpy serious face,
but imo he is even more perfect for open heart roles, bc his eyes are INTELLIGENT and very expressive and he shows a lot of positive emotions so well. I would love him in some super lovey dovey role

Loanshark mom is supposedly a "supporting character"???? WTH. She is a MAIN character, she is carrying the drama. I am watching HER. She stole the show.

First, it is a very beautiful woman, and then with the cosuming, hair and makeup, and the use of her lips and face while acting, she is absolutely STUNNING and she acts so well, she STEALS the show. She is THE thing to watch.

All the other youngsters are just ... frilly flat and boring. Yah they are main characters but they lack the ... PRESENCE of that loanshark mom actress

She should give lessons on how to use the lips while talking. Her voice projects well and he articulation is impeccable. With that rusty red lipstick and white teeth, her face is so infinitely interesting to watch

Wow that fired framed young policeman is soooo handsome! Such beautiful eyes and generally beautiful face . beautiful nose and lips and cheeks and eyebrows. He looks stunning

the old corrupt policeman looks perfect as a monster :) such cold cruel face

ML is also handsome when he is "open" when we can see his eyes, he is very intelligent and can show a lot of emotion. His eyes are amazing. I love his open relaxed face. So beauiful

I say that James already knows that he cares for ES a lot more than just a business partner or a soldier in the trenches, and I say that ES does not know it yet, but will become aware that James is a huge reason why she feels more alive. Her husband is an ignorant leech sucking her blood dry.

James painted ES pics, many of them :) No man invests that much into his business partner LOL And he suffers when she suffers. No man feels that for his business partner :) He wants to protect her daughter and her. That's not a business partner. James is behaving like a husband.

They are healing for each other.

So we will see at the end.

They are NOT a rom com LOL ppl are ignorant to think that everything lovey dovey HAS to be ron com... First of all, . this drama is NOT a rom com. This is a pshychological thriller. So the lovey dovey part will have a different feel.

Love is a part of every show LOL bc love is a part of human emotions, of HEART, of need for intimacy, for being special, for connection, and also a part of human physical attraction and mating laws.... so TLOVE IS UNAVOIDAB LE in one form of another..... and so is a part of this too. It is a part of life. Everyone healthy enough will feel their hormones, and some will feel their heart. Sometimes one or the other happens first.

In this case, James' heart is touched and hormones will follow and so he paints her, and ES's hormones are touched but she is not aware of it yet and her heart is following. HER MIND is stuck on that parasite husband bc he is a copy of her loser father... Gosh I cannot believe I am thinking of Freud here LOL I dislik that old geezer's ideas... but surely ES is stuck on "her dad" in the form of her husband. There is ZERO real love there. It is a toxic enmeshment.

With James it is not clear yet, it is still murky, BUT it is real bc he really puts his life on line to protect ES and her daughter and he feels and acts as a part of her family. It is still murky bc nothing was said or allowed to be felt yet, but there is a strong undertow, a strong heart connection and a pull.

Those who do not feel the hormones and cannot relate to that are either sickly or old or something is wrong with them. Any healthy person will feel that pull and so by default, every genre, anywhere, will have something "sexy" because simply it is unavoidable. It is LIFE.

If nothing happens between our leads, that is fine too, but for sure there was and is a strong pull that is beyond business partners, they behave like a husband and wife.
And would make a great pair :)
Once ES finally realizes it is time to let go of her husband :) She is MENTALLY stuck to her husband as a copy of her father, seems like. THere is absolutely no love there and that man just sucked all life out of her. She was a robot before she met James.

I just watched ep 11 and I can see other signs that both ES and James are hanging onto each other with *** emotion *** and a bond that is .... deep and personal :) Also, James is starting to have a lot more "open faces". ES is good for him.

I find the village and villagers super fun. I absolutely hated the first episodes in Seoul. It lacked any content or relationships. It was just sick - sick people, sick house, sick everything.

HOWEVER, since FL moved to village. the plost uses the SAME old sexist trope - the proud rash reactive FL who keeps getting into trouble, NEVER ommunicates, and keeps repeating the same mistakes and getting her as# kicked and almost dead, and STILL she keeps it up the same way. A TOTAL MORON. The same old plot that most asian dramas are based on.
So now this damsel in distress has to be saved by some guy

There are some dramas where the FL is competent and doesnt get in trouble so much. This one seemed pretty cool but then as a bodyguard and someone on the run, she totally failed since she moved to the village.
