I'm still on ep 3, but so far so good. What a difference a competent director and writer can make. Vice Versa…
Are you saying that if you find yourself in Thailand next week, you won't buy one of those black inhaler things, or a very vibrantly colored beverage - won't want to visit any of these popular tourist destinations ?
Thai BL is like grooming us for tourism - I've already decided it will be my next international trip!
I didn't realize this had been cast. I will say it doesn't make much sense - book 2 follows after an 8 year time skip if I recall correctly. None of these kids will look mid-20s next year, assuming that is the second season.
Maybe they are casting grown-ups for the out of high school part?
I absolutely agree.Unfortunately asian dramas are kind of in a rut. Because BL genre though fun and inclusive…
This has improved quite a lot - the genre is actually leaning more gay now than it is female fantasy. Essentially all the new good shows with actual budgets, experienced actors, quality directors - those shows are legit gay with BL elements. BL is just the name of all this now, so all BLs are LGBTQ+ shows anyways.
The shows aimed at a female viewer going for the old school BL fans tend to be made with newbie actors, low budgets, etc. They just get pumped out real quick bc the shows are less important than the ships they are trying to sail. Plus, those female fans tend to be far more forgiving than us queers regarding acting skill, skin ship, plausibility of the plot, etc. I stopped watching those shows almost 2 years ago already.
That said, traditional BL is perfect for newbie actors and directors trying to gain experience and a fan base - the shows are often supposed to be awkward and cringey, perfect for the high school age actors cast in those BLs. Its also great for studios to be able to provide platforms for unproven talents bc its so cheap and has the possibility of generating such a huge return if a ship becomes popular.
In the end we may all get what we want - which is awesome.
I haven't seen this yet but I just noticed that the lead has been cast as Kuwabara in Yu Yu - that is a really big deal actually. He is one the most iconic characters in one of the most iconic anime. "A mulberry is a tree and Kuwabara is a man" - a quote from Yu Yu for which I'll provide no context but is one my favorite English translations in anime. That line itself is iconic.
Seriously congrats to Shuhei!
I'm excited to watch this. It will be the first time my BL life and Anime life just naturally overlap - that is actually a really big deal for me.
I'm finding the character Boss extremely annoying. The actor is nice to look at but he is overdoing it with weird…
I don't know if I find Boss annoying or incredibly interesting - he might just be someone people either like or don't with few in between. Totally agree about Tul - he was so natural! Much of Tul's interactions very easily could have seemed forced - the banter in the car or being woke up from a nap for example, he really has done an excellent job.
I didn't notice Kenji's hair so much this episode - I'm still a little distracted by him getting out of the hot tub tho
Meen and Ping are two of my favorite BL actors and I kno this is their second series and their first had a few flaws - I don't care. They are great and I hope they have more work together. Its funny bc I really think a lot less in terms of "ships" these days but when I saw this series on worldofbl last week and I realized that it was them as the leads, I literally threw both hands in the air and found myself shouting "Omg its MeenPing" - I was alone but I don't kno that it would have mattered, it was more of an involuntary reaction.
I think the only ship I'm more attached to rn is YinWar - still manifesting them for them for the Thai remake of Addicted
Let’s be honest, if we take the topic more serious it was actually episode over episode about sexual harassment…
I've now finished the series. Episode 9 was exactly what you described - I would have done much of that different. Even when he asked "Why me?" the answer had nothing to do with his personality or even physical attributes but rather it was close proximity to the Boss that made him "special" and that was the resolution the whole forgery thing... it is actually quite messed up.
I'll leave my other comment bc it just shows how much an idiot I can be but I actually agree with you. Had it been just slightly different even this show would be much higher rated

Well, I completely understand what you are saying but I don't think its that simple. Truthfully, its difficult for me to see him as a victim bc it completely robs him of his agency - I get that is your point and entire reason why employer/employee relationships are rather inappropriate but in this show Shun frequently demonstrates agency - its just that he never employs it for himself, the whole show its never what he wants.
He likes the Boss right out the gate but when the Boss shows clear interest in him he never thinks "hmm, maybe I'll land me a Boss" he's always thinking about everyone else - whats "appropriate" and not. At one point he clearly thinks the Boss sees him as maybe a new toy and tho thats not great, it wasn't enough to make him quit. I actually think that he was lowkey going to be all right with that. He could understand him being the Boss's f-boy.
When it became evident that his Boss had very real and serious feelings for him, THAT is when he quits. He couldn't understand how someone like him - you know the whole self esteem thing. I liked how easily he was shown to be able to quit. Nobody had a gun to his head, his parents own a business, they just have to work hard - he never had to go to that job, he chose to.
This is a guilty pleasure, and I do mean guilty, because it's bad. The actors are doing a good job, and the writer…
Haha, I loved Yoon as a gangster - he had that one expression thru the whole series and the music that played when he showed up and they drove him around in a van - just fantastic.
How do you know they are straight ? they get annoyed probably because that question shouldn’t be asked and everyone…
Where did you see the light?
I've looked into this a bit in Thai media and it does seem to be that Krist was asked multiple times during an interview questions about his sexuality despite having already explicitly stated that he was straight on multiple occasions. Many, many occasions even.
Several times stuff like this occurred he did up the ante on his masculinity so to say, like the "I wouldn't watch the gay scenes" comment for example. We really have all seen him kiss a boy, so it doesn't even make sense for him to act like that. Unless he was fed up.
Krist became internationally famous as Arthit, I doubt he regrets the role - he has been working consistently since SOTUS and has had numerous endorsements, I don't think he did Be My Favorite bc he's broke.

Ok, Twitter is 100% more reliable than YouTube - these days if a Senator with a Blue Check says something than its very likely coming from that Senator or there staff for example. If Musk has his way "all the bots will go away" and it will be only real, literally verified, people that pay monthly for the privilege of being more verifiable than YouTube.
I could post a video with proof about how the world is flat and made of cheese to YouTube rn if I wanted - I sure hope your not approaching content on a site like YouTube, but specifically YouTube, thinking its all verified people saying verifiable shit
I think the acting is fantastic - from everyone, even the really side characters like Anan's goons were great. This cast is capable of conveying so much emotion without dialogue. The main 4 - Singto, Fluke, Utt and Fiat were incredible - I never wondered what they were feeling, I could feel it. The Actors that played Dan's parents were also great - I definitely felt a lot of emotion during their scenes... I feel I could write a bit about every cast member. I was impressed with everyone.
Its just great seeing Singto and Fluke onscreen again - in perhaps their best roles to date, this is just real treat - really made my Halloween
No I'm sorry is that teacher (the woman) having sex with her student ?cheating and student teacher relationship.…
Well, I haven't seen this yet, so...
That said, I know cheating sucks and Teachers shouldn't abuse their position of authority - its not OK, neither are OK. Both still happen tho - thats life.
I understand not watching something specifically made about either topic but, both being part of life, they are bound to come up within other stories. Thats also life.
Just wondering...was this series popular/hit when it aired?
I believe it was one of the most watched BLs in Thailand the year it aired - like it was very, very popular. Internationally it was either well received or not, not much in between.
I'm updating my watchlist and saw I never rated this show - I'll remedy that.
I actually quite enjoyed Between Us. I thought Boun/Prem's acting leveled up a bit and I really enjoyed the two together. This was a more subtle slow burn type story - it had to be. This is where much of the discourse stems from.
The story was already told in the background of Until We Meet Again - we knew already that the leads didn't get together and tell everyone during the events of UWMA. We knew a lot of stuff going into this. People that were expecting something different weren't being very realistic.
I liked the tie-ins to UWMA - it was great seeing Ohm/Fluke again. Got me all nostalgic. I thought the overall production was very well done.

I thought it was fantastic - just terribly good
I assumed they were doing this timeline in season 1, the Commander Yai timeline in Season 2 and hopefully a S3 or a movie/special for the present.

I feel this deserves a higher rating tbh
