I watched Addicted 1st or 2nd in my BL discovery in 2018, then Love Sick, then Sotus - I've seen so many Thai BLs. China stopped making BLs - they made Bromances for awhile, then stopped altogether. I've watched hundreds and hundreds of hours of Chinese series since they stopped making BL - across a wide range of genres. The historicals got me first - then Tomb Raiding and now I subscribe to WeTV and IQIYI, despite not really liking all the shows made for women and not being Chinese and knowing very little Manderin. I'm definitely in the minority of viewers but I give them money every single month...

If I watched Addicted and nothing else was subbed I wouldn't be giving them money every month.

Thailand lacks a streaming service for its media, so the creators and studios and companies that create Thai media just don't realize the money left on the table so to say. I see people all the time requesting obscure Thai shows be subbed - and people always only expect international subs, so English - one additional language is all that is required to essentially provide a base minimum of access that nobody can complain about.

That isn't hard to do - its a priority thing and its only prioritized low bc Thailand is still very traditional when it comes to media, Channels still seem to be a thing for example. I don't kno how I could access a channel - I don't have cable, I don't kno anyone with cable - I haven't thought in terms of channels in maybe 15+ years.

I'll never forget the early BL days where the projects were literally financed by the gifts fans would give their ships at fan meets - they had no idea how to make money from the international audience for awhile - they are still bad at it tbh.

The subs are just the most visible example.

That is a big gap but its legal everywhere on earth - no "cultural considerations" necessary, no pretending they are just actors acting as characters that are older or younger than I kno them to be, just awkward.

I've randomly thought of this show so many times - you don't yet realize how many white trucks there are everywhere. I used to occasionally solo camp but the last time I did I ended up just thinking about this show... that scene of him camping just completely broke me.

For whatever reason this show is one of the most impactful pieces of media I've ever interacted with - someday maybe I'll rewatch it, maybe.

Haha, no I'm not annoyed that you dropped a show, watch whatever you want, or not. I will never block someone for disagreeing with me - my opinions typically hold their own but ultimately my opinion of my opinion is the only one that matters.

When I am wrong tho, which occasionally does happen, its nice to have people call me out on it - people that disagree with me or dislike me are great for that.

I meant that it made me literally cringe and wince a little to read Caged Again and Eternal Butler in the same sentence and same context- as if they were comparable or categorically the same. Personally, I feel they rank on opposite ends of the quality spectrum, its like lowkey disrespecting Caged Again mentioning Eternal Butler in the same breath. I dislike that I'm doing it now even.

If you only watched a bit of Caged - I highly recommend a revisit.

Oh that is how true betrayal always goes - it breaks a person. The rage comes after the numbness and fills the space where personality used to be. That often becomes the new personality - bitter, angry and seeking revenge.

I kno immediately if I like someone - not just romantically, like if I could hang out with someone, there is a chemistry to friendships. If you meet someone that you have friend chemistry with and you also have real chemistry and find them attractive - that is a person you can really fall for, someone you could easily fall in love with.

I think Kant realized he had both of those with Bison that first night and he is old enough to realize Bison is potential partner material. I think he kinda has a lowkey crush from the gate.

No, Cap is a Cop and he is after a Lady using groomed young men to assassinate people for money - they are not all bad people, they are just contracts - Mother is the only evil character I've seen yet.

All others are grey - in life there is very rarely black or white situations.

Another way of saying this - "Only the Sith deal in absolutes" - to see a black or white world is itself evil.

Welcome to modern policing. What happens to Kant on this show happens everyday to people all over the world - nobody cares tho bc those people are criminals. I don't kno that anyone voluntarily becomes a police informant - the vast majority are coerced into dangerous work for no pay.

The core of the plot is the core of Taming - that is enough for an adaptation, nothing else needs to be the same at all.

Did you read Taming of the Shrew? Did you understand it?

Go watch "10 Things I Hate About You" its another modern adaptation and this series leans on that as much as the OG play. Its a really good 90s movie tbh - Heath Ledger is the role that Style plays, Joseph Gordon Levitt is Kant, Julia Stiles is Fadel and Larisa Oleynik plays Bison's character.

Taming is not something that we will see a direct adaption of - its an incredibly sexist story that celebrates some of the worse elements of the world that was. Very out of fashion rn tbh

I think the restaurant Heart Burger alone by itself, without a story or cast, is more creative than several BLs from 24 - I mean you can write it but I don't know how you can change the reality of what I just said.

Vintage cars in their original state and good condition are worth more than money - their value increases much faster than money. Every year that passes they become rarer and thereby more valuable - that only goes one way, rare old cars don't lose value unless the condition changes. The car was something Style couldn't say no to. I think most men pitched that deal would agree to it. Worse case they get nothing but embarrassed, best case, an awesome car and maybe a few hookups. Why not?

Plus - if I were Style, I wouldn't even think the car deal would be a dealbreaker for Fadel were he to find out. I would wait til I got the car and pick Fadel up in it and while driving where ever explain the whole thing as "Kant really wants your brother and Bison said their best shot at dating was if you were in a relationship, so Kant asked me to help him out. I knew you were an asshole already tho and I declined so he offered me this car" and I would actually be upset with Fadel if he was mad at me for that.

Fadel and Bison literally kill people for a "Nice Lady" that "helped" them when they were desperate - they are victims too but the least so in my opinion, that conversation where it came to light that Fadel left and came back bc he "had nowhere to go" was quite revealing. They were obviously groomed to be hitmen but they both kno its wrong.

Kant is in the most difficult position and its really the only legitimate position - he is working for the police to clear his name but not of his own volition, he was selected by the American cop to seduce Bison and find evidence to build his case while doing it. Tho thats f*cked up - he has no choice. Kant is clearly a victim as he has no control at all.

Style is just in over his head and too arrogant to trust even his intuition about Fadel. Kant is using him to get Fadel bc he knew he could get him to try bc of his ego - the car was only necessary bc Style already had a run in with Fadel - otherwise that appeal to his ego alone prolly would have worked - he is really only a victim bc Fadel is actually dangerous and will literally kill him if he needs to and Kant knew this and said nothing.

Yeah - all of this makes it really hard to see these characters together at the end. That is the story tho, its the entire plot. Murder, deception, coercion, betrayal, lust - those are the ties that bind our 4 leads together. This isn't a fluffy story and its not just a comedy - its a Shakespearean comedy so this being a complicated and messy story shouldn't surprise anyone at all.

Its also better than a direct adaptation of Taming of the Shrew - that would be far, far more controversial than anything this show can do.

I'm truly annoyed that you found a way to place those two shows in the same sentence. If you dropped Caged Again just to be bored on Fridays and complain - that sounds like a you problem to me.

Caged Again is an absolute gem. I'll not even defend it as that is self evident.

Yeah... thats bc of how much money has flowed into Thailand bc of BL. The shows they are making now, at least from the larger studios, have a lot more resources at their disposal than they ever did in 2000-2018. BL itself is a genre that is still evolving.

Nothing about Thai media has peaked.

In a few years everything will be English subbed, always every time. That will happen bc of all the international attention that BL is drawing to Thailand. Much like China, Thailand will benefit from the attention BL garners - Addicted was my first, and many people's first foray into Chinese media and I've now watched far more non-BL Chinese productions than I have BL or Bromance.

Obviously Thailand will need to create non-BL dramas that appeal to an international audience - rn making a Thai production for an international audience that isn't a BL would be kinda silly. If ain't broke, don't fix it. They are still thinking that other stuff is just for Thailand, so they don't sub it, despite people like you that are wanting to watch it. They will figure it out.

Noh is only 15 - I don't think they will wait 3-4 years to do a sequel, he just needs to be a bit older. I don't have any issues with 17 year olds kissing each other for example. I think they are seniors but we didn't see them graduate so they could wait and pivot to university but they could revisit Friday yet.

I'm on episode 3 and I'm absolutely loving Dunk in this - seriously. I have not watched much of him before this. He is fantastic in this. His character is trying everything, super hard to win over someone who can't be won over. He should be over the top, he should look like he is trying, his character literally is - thats the whole plot.

This is a completely different role than anything he has ever done and he has created a character that is quite memorable. I can't think of him in a burger outfit or demanding beers and getting thrown out or all greased up from working on cars without smiling - I think he is killing it tbh
