Yeah…JBL is one extreme or the other. There is no middle. Or, there rarely is a middle. I feel like it’s partially a cultural thing for sure. But ‘After Moving Seats, The Boy Behind Me Has a Crush on Me’ (seriously, these long ass Japanese titles) has a rare real kiss in this (though I’m not a fan of the uke because he doesn’t really match the description of the character physically and visually age-wise, but whatever). My brain almost 🤯I was that shocked. I thought for sure we weee getting wooden dead fish frozen in time from all angles and close up as usual…nope. Color me shocked.

It’s a book made into a drama. I’m reading it now and am about 70% done. So far it paces well with the book. And the end credit moments match with the scenes in the book. I can place them in the timeline. The misunderstanding is significant- But I will preface it by saying Shen Mo has a very good reason for his misunderstandings. We should get this on flashbacks because that’s how the novel feeds us information.

I’m convinced he’s liked him for a lot longer. Like, I don’t know, maybe a year at least 😉

Serizawa knows EXACTLY what he’s doing. He’s BOLD with it, and I’m here for it completely!

I haven't been watching many Thai BLs, or completing them, due to the lack of quality lately, so I can't recommend any recent offerings from there. Payback was definitely an exception to this. If you haven't watched it, I think it's worth it. It follows the manhwa (which I loved) very closely.

Someone who read the novel said that it's not supposed to be toxic- more like misunderstandings. But if anyone is toxic, it's that ex.

I literally JUST bought the novel. Since my work restricted our internet access on personal devices, I plan to spend the week reading this during my lunch breaks. Thanks for clarifying that it's not toxic, but mostly misunderstandings.

OMG Yes! Why didn't he just tell Shen Mo about their past? I guess it's because then we wouldn't have a story.

And the ex and his audacity! He's a hot mess of toxicity that Shen Mo should be happy to have avoided - I'm sure he will be when he learns the truth. He knows how his family is, so it's a wonder for me on how he wouldn't even consider that Shen Mo was threatened in some way, even if he doesn't know the details. Nope. Instead, he just goes abroad with a woman after an out-of-nowhere breakup. He's definitely with An'an to satisfy his family in some way.

To me, the chemistry makes up for the creative camera angles and obviously fully dressed moments (they could have at least made it look like they were fixing their clothing before zooming out for a full scene shot, though). They just look like they're dry-humping every time to me. With the opening scene, Shen Mo is making "contact" over Mingxuan's fully clothed lower half. No movement on Mingxuan to suggest clothing is being righted before he stands up in the opening scene. A flaw in directing, but not one I'll drop ratings for. The kisses may improve as the episodes progress. Even if they don't, they have the long, lingering looks and on-screen chemistry to forgive it. And the story is there. It is still China, and we are being gifted with so many amazing dramas from the hidden masters, finally.

True. Though I think Mingxuan is so supportive because of his past relationship with Shen Mo and his knowledge of how his ex and ex’s family treated him. I think he’s using his sister’s crush as an excuse. Not that he doesn’t care about his sister’s happiness, but he definitely knows more about the ex and Shen Mo’s past that he’s keeping to himself.

Though I couldn’t wait and decided to buy the novel on Amazon today… Yet I’m still looking forward to the weekly live action because seeing it is almost always so satisfying after reading it. Almost. There have been a couple I felt ruined a story based on a novel (Heesu in Class 2 immediately comes to mind).

Because he’s a selfish jerk. Don’t know how she doesn’t see it.
