As for my own review, I believe we can always agree to disagree. My expectations weren’t sky-high or out of the galaxy. From the trailer and poster, I was simply looking forward to a drama centered on a female general and her story. Since I haven’t read the novel, I came in with no background knowledge of how the story should unfold. What left me disappointed was the writing and the tonal whiplash.
That said, I do recognize there are aspects worth appreciating, such as the performances of both leads.
However, that doesn’t change the fact that overall, I struggled to enjoy it.
Everyone consumes drama differently, based on their own taste. What feels messy to me might feel magical to you. And that is totally okay. :))
That’s the whole point of reviews. They are OPINIONS, not verdicts.
Dismissing every bit of criticism as “hate” is not only unfair, it shuts down the very idea of conversation. I don’t usually comment much here because I know people who loved the show might not like hearing my take, and I get it.
But here is the thing, disliking something isn’t the same as hating it. Criticism isn’t an attack, it’s just perspective. And we need to stop blurring that line.
Thanks again for getting back at me though :) Also lol sorry for the lengthy reply xD
When Hai Tang ran with that knife, a part of me almost wished no one had stopped her. Because to be abused physically and mentally to the point where your own safety no longer matters is not just abuse, it’s like having your entire sense of self stripped away. The fear, the shame, the constant dehumanization had been weighing on her.The buildup to that scene made it hit even harder.
Then we have our ML... Yes, it felt a little too convenient that he was always right there when she needed him, but for the sake of moving the story along, I’ll let it pass. xD
What really matters is the way their chemistry or whatever this messy, fragile thing between them is playing out. It’s not perfect, but it feels real. When Hai Tang breaks down, just staring into the void like she has already given up on life and he quietly reaches out to her, it’s such a simple move. You can almost see her defenses cracking the second she realizes someone is actually there for her. It was so heartbreaking and honestly kind of beautiful.
As for the fantasy element, I will be honest, I am still completely lost. But it is only two episodes in and I am not exactly the fastest at catching on. xD I hope they don't tank the drama on this trope.
Still, yes the story feels heavy, dark and suffocating at times, but here and there they do show a flicker of light. And for now, that is more than enough.
Also, everyone has screamed about the beautiful cinematography and it is! I already have like too many screenshots from the first 2 episodes. The whole 90's vibe is clearly a stand out. It's nostalgic without trying too hard!
The cycle of repetitive reviews both overly positive and overly negative has honestly become an ongoing issue here. The mass upvoting and downvoting only makes it worse and in the end , it’s equally unhelpful and misleading.
If a new viewer happens to scroll down to this comment, I just want to say everyone’s taste is different. What didn’t work for me might still resonate with you!
I was gonna write, it all boils down to personal preferences, than I saw the reviews, full of hate-fest, deemed the most helpful, lol >>>> Honestly my disappointment isn’t random. It’s from the fact that I waited over a year for this drama. I was hyped, counting days and when it finally dropped… it just wasn’t what I promised in trailer and posted. That’s why I am disappointed.
And no, this isn’t me starting a hate parade. I have clearly explained what didn’t work for me and why. It’s called criticism, not hate. :))
I really like the actors but somehow it didn't work for me.
So yeah... It actually does come down to personal preference. :)
I think the main reason I rated this drama low was the imbalance in tone. Just when I settled into it as a romcom, a fight scene would come up to tease, only for the story to switch right back to being all cutesy and fluffy.
Many have said that this isn’t necessarily a weakness and I agree but it also didn’t deliver the “legendary female general” that was promised.
Thank you for reading my review ❤️
While reading the fav scenes part, it felt a like a nice recap. Lol I miss them already 😭😭❤️❤️
“ Men are like mensuration, you think about it when it hasn’t come but annoying when it’s here “ - Dr Jiang >>>> this is just too iconic and funny 🤣🤣 Always cracks me up!
Great review Precious! You chose to enter the BL world with good stuff 😁♥️
Rest, I wished they could have somehow merged their storyline to make an impact on mains but to give them a new storyline while we have our leads background undercooked wasn't a fine choice in my books.
Anyways...
Thank you for reading my review! ❤️
It was like watching puzzle pieces that almost fit, but never quite clicked the way they should.
Thank you for reading my review Karma! ♥️
I feel the whole gender bender wasn't utilised to full potential. I mean I couldn't ignore the fact that none of the teammates didn't recognise her plus everyone was okay with her (him in the drama) acting that way to a commander.
I think the main issue was the title here. It was misleading. Had they went with the chinese translation which was related to moon, this drama could have worked better.
The trailer and the name set a different expectations and what was presented was not upto that.
But glad you were able to drop it. Hope better dramas find us! 🥰
I think I had the same issue with the chemistry. They definitely did have their moments but it felt very fragmented plus the tonal whiplash in storytelling didn't help either.
I finished because of my NDD but I understand people who dropped it.
I am glad you enjoyed the drama too! ^.^ honestly if I remove the romance arc, this was a masterpiece. The direction, the music (OMG) ,the cinematography...top notch.
But still overall an amazing experience 🔥🔥

I am happy that atleast we are getting the BTS :)
Idk why I thought it was this ep and I was anticipating it during the scene and I was like where is the dramaaaa!! Lmao.
(If I remove the fiction lens, it is WRONG. But it's not like anything that is happening here will make sense in real world. They are not humans in this series.)
What did throw me off was the editing during the NC scenes. Like… am I really supposed to believe two people standing a breath apart can’t recognize each other? Enigma’s pheromones may be intense, but HY literally TALKED. He has a voice, a scent...something Sheng should have picked up on. It just doesn’t add up.
Same thing with the second couple.. Wenlang knew it was Gao Tu in the room. Are we to believe the rut was so overwhelming he forgot?
They could have made the scene darker or switched off the light or maybe made them drunk so that they couldn't recognise faces. Idk.
Also, Is it some unwritten ABO rule that during heat or mating, you never actually see your partner’s face? Because honestly, that feels less dramatic and more… unsafe.
I will not comment on how they cut some scenes because I am thankful we are getting this atleast from China. And we have BTS... I understand the choice and if it keeps us from getting more episode, I don't mind.
As for HY leaving that letter and walking out. LMFAO not shocking at all. That’s classic HY- manipulative, always in control, always pulling strings. Whether that’s right or wrong is another debate, but it’s consistent with his character.
I also thought we were finally getting the “big reveal” this episode (you know because they will see each other... But ehhhh)
What I did enjoy was Wenlang and HY’s banter. Some of it was silly, some genuinely funny and it broke up the heaviness in a good way.
Overall, this episode felt like a rollercoaster. Messy in places, entertaining in others. I was hoping for something more cohesive on the editing front, but at least the story is finally moving forward.
