Ep 9: thoughts/rant!

I knew exactly what I was getting into with this drama. The whole lack of consent thing is basically written in flashing neon, but since this is an ABO universe where logic doesn’t follow human rules, I didn’t expect it to play out like a standard romance. Mating, pheromones, purring like it’s all pretty much werewolf coded, so I wasn’t shocked.
(If I remove the fiction lens, it is WRONG. But it's not like anything that is happening here will make sense in real world. They are not humans in this series.)

What did throw me off was the editing during the NC scenes. Like… am I really supposed to believe two people standing a breath apart can’t recognize each other? Enigma’s pheromones may be intense, but HY literally TALKED. He has a voice, a scent...something Sheng should have picked up on. It just doesn’t add up.

Same thing with the second couple.. Wenlang knew it was Gao Tu in the room. Are we to believe the rut was so overwhelming he forgot?

They could have made the scene darker or switched off the light or maybe made them drunk so that they couldn't recognise faces. Idk.
Also, Is it some unwritten ABO rule that during heat or mating, you never actually see your partner’s face? Because honestly, that feels less dramatic and more… unsafe.

I will not comment on how they cut some scenes because I am thankful we are getting this atleast from China. And we have BTS... I understand the choice and if it keeps us from getting more episode, I don't mind.

As for HY leaving that letter and walking out. LMFAO not shocking at all. That’s classic HY- manipulative, always in control, always pulling strings. Whether that’s right or wrong is another debate, but it’s consistent with his character.

I also thought we were finally getting the “big reveal” this episode (you know because they will see each other... But ehhhh)

What I did enjoy was Wenlang and HY’s banter. Some of it was silly, some genuinely funny and it broke up the heaviness in a good way.

Overall, this episode felt like a rollercoaster. Messy in places, entertaining in others. I was hoping for something more cohesive on the editing front, but at least the story is finally moving forward.

I do feel the drama definitely has flaws when it looked at it with objective real life colored lens but for me it was a different experience all together. I loved it start to finish ... especially the first half!

I do feel the editting was choppy towards the end and might be due to a little censorship, but it didn't diminish my experience at all! 🥰🥰

I think FL's behavior was my biggest gripe too. Like I understand that Generals can be soft but the lack of balance just threw me off and they never pick up.

I haven't watched General and I but I agree. I mean no hate to the actors, they did a good job with what was given to them but the main problem was how the story and the characters were written.

CZ character had so much flavours. Like I don't actually feel sympathy for him but he was an intresting character.

I thrive on fluff like you but when it is promised from the start. The way they marketed it as dark and serious and then the tonal whiplash but He Yan going "Dudu" "dudu" just took things away...

I am not screenwriter or director lmao but I feel like they werr confused too. Plus the last few ep were just something 😂

I also miss GOTF 😭 Still patiently waiting for season 2.

I wheezed at the title of the review xD

They kept telling me how bad women had, how she is this brave and strong and the idol for all the other women, but I did not really see much suffering or discrimination. >> The whole telling became their undoing.
I feel like they had an idea of strong female lead but didn't know what to do with it or how to portray in actions.

Sure, the acting was good, but does it matter when the writing was not? >>>> THIS.

Lmao this was my first time seeing a finger heart in a costume drama and I don't know how i feel about it.

As a romance girly, I wouldn't have been either. Not a 5.5 too but they wanted to do everything and did nothing well. *sigh*

The issue was - she was bubbly fun and witty 90% of time, and serious smart general 10% 🤡>>> Yes. The imbalance was the issue. That should have been the opposite of atleast in parity. Like 60-40. I knew she was smart but how smart is where the drama faltered.

I am just sad at how it turned out ! *sigh*

I watched it few months so it was a fresh memory for me xD bit I rated that 8 and I think this one 8.5

A rare occurrence : an adaptation that I enjoyed more than the original Taiwanese movie >> Same. Even though it was very similar to the OG, I found it better.

But the scene where he says good bye to his father was better done in the Taiwanese version imo. Lol I sobbed when I watched. Here it was emotional too but not that much.

But overall, this was done really well ^.^

I was planning to watch it but I don't think I will like it. I would rather skip it xD
