The first 2-episodes make for lovely viewing. Delightful storytelling so far and our leads have beautiful chemistry. Looking forward to coming episodes.
Week-after-week this drama continues to be such heartwarming and delightful viewing. Actors can act. We have sexual chemistry and tension amongst our leads. Writing and direction are mature, intelligent and actually makes sense, plus we have no glaring plot holes. Hurrah! See History 5 and Never Let Me Go, it can be done.
Gosh, talk about huge expectations not being in the least bit fulfilled. This was from start to finish such a huge disappointment. Talk about taking such an iconic legacy and doing the worst you possibly could to ruin that legacy - that’s History 5 for me.
The History series is famous and unique for a reason. Mature, adult content, good storytelling overflowing in the most part with realism. Incredible sexual tension and undeniable chemistry between leads.
So, what did they give us? None of the above. Indeed quite the opposite. Slapstick comedy, which was in no way funny. Terrible, immature writing with a ridiculous storyline with no sense of realism. Immature, childish, whiny overacting leads in Tai Che Ni and Wynn - their characters I especially found unbearable viewing. However, the biggest travesty for me, was the loss of an adult theme with sexual tension and chemistry throughout.
I've re-watched EP 23 4 times now. So beautiful, so heart wrenching. Tears -I shed tears. Beautifully written and directed. I'll re-watch time and time again, it's that good.
I so felt for Gaipa in this episode, after what seemed like years of yearning for Jim. I was shouting at the screen saying: "Jim this is not a moment to sigh or go damn mute. Ease the poor man's broken heart, at least say thank you for liking me. I don't take you liking me for granted, but will also worthy you as a good friend." Anything but mute!
I thought Wren was great in this episode with Jim, understanding that he needed to do closure with his ex to put his demons to rest and move forward in their relationship together. Hopefully now, we can see some character development from Jim and enjoy the Wren and Jim love story.
Heart speaking literally made my heart sore - just beautiful.
So hear you. It's become very noticeable to me. Wish they start to give him more of a narrative so that we see…
Totally agree. Very distracting and it comes across as the writer just couldn't express using words how he's feeling, which we know is not the case, as the writer is excellent.
Damn this script is good. Finally we have a BL which tells not only a good story and narrative, but also has an exceptional cast to deliver it. Everything in this latest episode in terms of the script writing was on point and excellent. The writer really knows how to tell a story to engage their audience, while making it utterly realistic and believable to our brains. It feels like a real touch and taste of everyday life. Never Let Me Go and History 5 could learn a lot from this writer and director. Superb. Loving it.
How many heavy sighs are they going to make Earth do in this series? He's the King of Heavy Sighing!
So hear you. It's become very noticeable to me. Wish they start to give him more of a narrative so that we see his personality evolve. However, it looks like that's coming in the next episode.
Just watched EP 18 and have to say, as much as they try, it's just not in any way funny. The whole psychic narrative with Johnny was beyond painful.
I find myself astounded that there's absolutely no sexual tension between the couples in H5. All the previous History series were overflowing with sexual tension and chemistry across all leads. This just feels like a show of childish antics. Even bringing back Ye Xing Si and Fu Yong Jie from History 4, isn't enough to save this huge disappointment, although at least these two showcased their excellent acting skills and know how to kiss. From their limited time on screen, it was lovely to see their interactions and witness a mature, adult conversation with believable reasoning and advice.
Wynn's character is just so annoying and childish and this whole narrative around his misunderstanding with Vincent has become beyond tedious. At this point I don't care about them.
This is a series with absolutely no direction or focus on the flow of the narrative or indeed storytelling. Week-after-week it's just what else can we throw at it, what else can we add with no thought to the story or engaging the audience watching it. I can't wait for it to finish and then I'll simply delete it from my brain and return to watching the previous History series.
In the last paragraph, I agree and disagree. Talking about having a baby on the first night after three years…
Yes, I think it’s good to be sceptical. No, I definitely don’t think it’s a bit stretched to say she’s manipulative. A great example is how she used his mother and her property. However, I love hearing the opinions of others, so thank you.

It’s a 2/10 for me and I’ll never re-watch.
