Great article, congrats moodchild! ^________^(I'm sorry, I know it's a lousy pun, but I couldn't resist! Verzeih…
Thank you, pun pash. ;P
You know I'm not holding that against you. ;)

"some "10s" were most probably linked to the fact that I was in the mood for something like that so I really appreciated it"
That applies to me as well. Looking back rationally at some dramas/movies I might rate them different now but at the moment of watching them they were exactly what I wanted to needed.
Yes, biased ratings, comments or reviews can be misleading which is why I tend to relate on more than one thing before deciding to watch something.
I took that from a Youtuber called AvenueX. She ranted a bit about the similar covers and asked if someone copy+pasted them. I totally see her point. xD
Here's the video if you want to watch it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wclJO4N3yv8

Great article !! I also agree that the mood is an essential part: without my mood I couldn't start watching Kdramas…
Thank you! Haha agreed. xD My mood recently got in the way of my plan to watch Eternal Love of Dream. After one episode it was like "meh, wanna watch something different now". ^_^' Sometimes I really love my mood and once in a while I just wanna tell it to give me a break and not interfere.
It did push me to watch Birthcare Center though, a drama I ended up loving so maybe my mood was right, once again...

Me neither, it differs. Sometimes all I need is a look at the cast or at the synopsis. Sometimes I take a look at all those mentioned things when I'm not sure at all.
And yes, articles can also lead to a decision of watching a drama. I was encouraged by an article to watch The Lost Tomb series and Perfect and Casual.

I just realised that my choosing to watch a drama is a three step process: Watch Trailer and one fanmade MV. It…
I like your technique of watching the trailer and a fanmade MV. I use it when a synopsis and pictures are not enough for me and want to see if leads have chemistry. It's good that you are okay with dropping. :)

amazing article but I personally dont care about the ratings i go deeper into the reviews and comments
I also prefer reviews and comments over ratings. They are more helpful for me.

I can relate. I dropped some dramas after 1-2 episodes as well. Usually I try to give them at least 4 or more…
For me a drama's purpose is to entertain me. If it feels like homework or doing chores to watch it then something is going wrong and I should change to something that gives me a good time instead.

Hi Moonchild, you mean overrated drama that you rated low? You can always write an article that's the other way…
"it wasn't that good of an idea"
How glad I am you did not listen to those people. The idea is great and I'm happy someone dared to touch sensitive topics as "unpopular opinions". I know you can earn quite some backlash for this and I would be lying if I said I'm not afraid of negative response but I think every opinion should be heard even if it's uncomfortable to some.

I'll surely get back to you for some advise or any questions that might appear. Also will include you in the writing process if you wish. Your input is very much appreciated and welcome. Thanks for the offer. :)

Oh and I don't mind you being "possessive" about it. That's your right. It's totally understandable, don't worry. ^^
I also have some babies on my own I hold dear and would fight like a lion for if necessary. xD

Thank you! ♡♡♡

There need to be good reasons for me to watch something including Horror and my mood also needs to agree. xD

That's true. When it comes to Chinese Dramas I take a look at AvenueX' channel for example. Recently she saved…
I'm about to remove it from my list as well, but I dunno I still want to give it a closer look. After all it's adapted from a novel of Priest who also wrote Guardian, a favorite of mine.
Though I think if it's really that bad I'll just read the novel instead. xD
This dramas are not on my radar yet but I'm always looking forward to her opinions.

And here I am feeling there might be people not taking me seriously if I rate a drama with 10 and also put it…
I agree. 10 is the ultimate rating and maybe there is not one drama who really "deserves" the ultimate rating because is there something utterly perfect?
Still, I give this rating. I do not say that dramas/movies I rated a 10 are flawless, I just enjoyed them from beginning to end and can't complain about anything because as a whole the drama was well-done for me. Also a 10 rating comes from the moment I completed the dramas and emotions/feeling about the drama are still fresh.
So far I have 7 dramas rated with 10. The majority has a rating between 7-9.5 and looking at some dramas I probably would rate them differently now which doesn't change the fact that by the time I completed them they were a 10 for me.
That's exactly why I say ratings are "overrated" and people should not dwell on them or think too highly of them. A rating is a personal and subjective thing for me.

Thank you. I'm glad you think it's informative. :)
That is quite an analytical approach but I totally see what you mean. When audience/rating decreases it means more people dropped the drama so there must be reasons for them to not continue watching.

The title and cover matter less to me actually. I usually follow drama news, especially for K and C dramas, so…
A browse through MDL is enough for me to always find something new to watch, even though I was not actively looking for something. xD
Usually I put currently airing dramas on my list but do not start watching because I like to binge watch when I enjoy a drama and having to wait for the new episode airing plus subs is not something I like to deal with. xD
Sometimes there are also dramas who start well but get worse throughout the story and I even removed some dramas I previously added to my list because after it ended a lot of people who watched it said the ending was horrible or story had plot holes and such.

Thanks for this article which made me think over what is my criteria for watching dramas. I have now reached the…
When I started watching dramas I also put everything into my list if it caught my eyes, be it because of a title, a cover or synopsis. Later I realized there are tropes I just cannot stand or have problems sitting through like love triangles for example. Second female leads who keep butting in are so painful to watch for me so now I try to avoid such dramas and I'm getting better in detecting them. Experience is something you get through watching a lot of stuff you do not enjoy and once you see the clichés or similar plots you can better sort them out.

I can relate. I dropped some dramas after 1-2 episodes as well. Usually I try to give them at least 4 or more episodes but when I find the characters uninteresting or something else is negative then I drop faster. I couldn't get into Dr. Romantic for example even though I really tried and a lot of people said I should give it a second chance. It felt better to drop it.

Thank you for reading! <3
50 episodes is a lot of time invested in case you end up disliking a drama (and not drop it) so I understand you. My worries turned out to be unreasonable, once I finished The Untamed I was ready for another 50 episodes of it. Right now I'm watching Oh My General which has 60 episodes and rewatch another C-Drama with 66 episodes so my fear of long dramas is definitely gone. xD
I think the hidden secret is the pace and story of a drama. If a drama has over 50 episodes but a story that could be (well-paced) told in 30 episodes then it's boring because the rest of episodes turn out to be fillers.
If we have a well written story and good pace 50 episodes seem like nothing because you binge watch them all in a short time. Wish you good luck with your future Wuxia or Xianxia dramas. :)
