And here I am feeling there might be people not taking me seriously if I rate a drama with 10 and also put it…
I agree. 10 is the ultimate rating and maybe there is not one drama who really "deserves" the ultimate rating because is there something utterly perfect? Still, I give this rating. I do not say that dramas/movies I rated a 10 are flawless, I just enjoyed them from beginning to end and can't complain about anything because as a whole the drama was well-done for me. Also a 10 rating comes from the moment I completed the dramas and emotions/feeling about the drama are still fresh. So far I have 7 dramas rated with 10. The majority has a rating between 7-9.5 and looking at some dramas I probably would rate them differently now which doesn't change the fact that by the time I completed them they were a 10 for me. That's exactly why I say ratings are "overrated" and people should not dwell on them or think too highly of them. A rating is a personal and subjective thing for me.
Well written and informative article. Personally after using all the data shown here on kisskh, if I’m…
Thank you. I'm glad you think it's informative. :) That is quite an analytical approach but I totally see what you mean. When audience/rating decreases it means more people dropped the drama so there must be reasons for them to not continue watching.
The title and cover matter less to me actually. I usually follow drama news, especially for K and C dramas, so…
A browse through MDL is enough for me to always find something new to watch, even though I was not actively looking for something. xD Usually I put currently airing dramas on my list but do not start watching because I like to binge watch when I enjoy a drama and having to wait for the new episode airing plus subs is not something I like to deal with. xD Sometimes there are also dramas who start well but get worse throughout the story and I even removed some dramas I previously added to my list because after it ended a lot of people who watched it said the ending was horrible or story had plot holes and such.
Thanks for this article which made me think over what is my criteria for watching dramas. I have now reached the…
When I started watching dramas I also put everything into my list if it caught my eyes, be it because of a title, a cover or synopsis. Later I realized there are tropes I just cannot stand or have problems sitting through like love triangles for example. Second female leads who keep butting in are so painful to watch for me so now I try to avoid such dramas and I'm getting better in detecting them. Experience is something you get through watching a lot of stuff you do not enjoy and once you see the clichés or similar plots you can better sort them out.
Mine is in a different way i first do my research on how the drama is i watch a minimum of 6 episodes and if i…
I can relate. I dropped some dramas after 1-2 episodes as well. Usually I try to give them at least 4 or more episodes but when I find the characters uninteresting or something else is negative then I drop faster. I couldn't get into Dr. Romantic for example even though I really tried and a lot of people said I should give it a second chance. It felt better to drop it.
"Without my mood, I would have probably waited another decade before watching The Untamed because I was too scared…
Thank you for reading! <3 50 episodes is a lot of time invested in case you end up disliking a drama (and not drop it) so I understand you. My worries turned out to be unreasonable, once I finished The Untamed I was ready for another 50 episodes of it. Right now I'm watching Oh My General which has 60 episodes and rewatch another C-Drama with 66 episodes so my fear of long dramas is definitely gone. xD I think the hidden secret is the pace and story of a drama. If a drama has over 50 episodes but a story that could be (well-paced) told in 30 episodes then it's boring because the rest of episodes turn out to be fillers. If we have a well written story and good pace 50 episodes seem like nothing because you binge watch them all in a short time. Wish you good luck with your future Wuxia or Xianxia dramas. :)
I love this article! Mostly I go off of my mood. I wrote a post about Kdrama moods on the Kdrama subreddit and…
Thank you. I'm happy you like it. ^^ Flower of Evil looked interesting but I was not into the serial killer tag so I passed (for now). You're right about not enjoying the experience. That's why I encourage people to drop a drama if they really don't like it. I have a couple dramas I should've dropped but didn't and in the end I regret it. Felt like I wasted time on them when there are so many other good dramas.
I was so happy when they added tags in MDL. That's been one of my go-to's when I'm looking for a "mood' drama…
I can imagine. Tags can be so helpful. I just watched the movie Pieta and forgot it had a rape scene in it. Looking at the tags would've helped me not being so surprised. xD We tend to be shocked when we see a drama rating that is below 7 even though we shouldn't. Just because a majority of people did not like it, doesn't mean you won't as well. Same with very good ratings. Some hyped dramas were a real letdown for me, yet they have a rating of 9.
Great article I have watched over 300 dramas and I follow the same rules when I choose (except I love a good Cinderella…
Thank you. :) Wow 159 is a number. These still look huge to me but I'm not afraid anymore. I have quite some long dramas on my list this year. Right now I'm watching two with 60 episodes. xD
That's totally fine. After all it's one of the, if not the first thing we notice of a drama anyway and honestly…
That's true. Which is why I get confused like "haven't I seen this drama cover somewhere before" and then it turns out to be just really similar but not the same actually. Also names. It took me a while to keep "Love and Redemption" apart from "Love and Destiny".
That or you're just a really open person which is not bad. :) Honestly sometimes overthinking something is not…
That would be probably me with Birthcare Center. I dived into it because it seemed like a breath of fresh air topic wise. Turned out to be a new favorite of mine. When I happen to be confused I actually return to read the synopsis hoping it can help me. xD
Hi Moonchild, you mean overrated drama that you rated low? You can always write an article that's the other way…
Hello Jeana, I am interested in picking up your idea and make more articles like this. Thank you for sharing the insight of how you got inspired to start this series. It's actually also the reason why I'm liking it.
I find it good to see two different opinions on the same drama because it shows how universal taste can be and that both opinions have a right to be said.
I'm glad to hear that you're okay with someone "borrowing" your idea because as a writer myself I totally understand how it feels to have "a baby" like this and cherishing it.
When I do write an article like this I would give you credit by mentioning you and your co-writers and also link to your articles if that's okay for you. That way, users could also visit your articles and read them as well.
I hope you don't think I would have gone for this without your consent. Of course I would've asked you first personally. I'm currently writing on four other articles non-related to this so it will be a while before I get to it anyway which is why I have not contacted you (yet).

Maybe I should go and claim the idea first. I already started writing on it. xD Thank you for the advice, will do that tomorrow. (It's an unholy time at my place now and I should rather sleep)
Wow, all I do is look at the synopsis (sometimes I don't even do that) and if it piques my interest, I'll add…
That or you're just a really open person which is not bad. :) Honestly sometimes overthinking something is not the best way to do it. There are times when you get benefitted for just diving in and not think much about what awaits you. *playing "Into the Unknown" in my head* xD
