There is hardly any difference between what is shown in the show and what is written in the novel. So no.. it’s not the shows problem.. and up until this point it was pretty clear thst FX though rotten was trying to be good for Shulang in his own way..

Even when the character says he was living a lonely life until Fan Xiao appeared in his life like a gift, you would like to believe otherwise. You would like to believe somehow his life was perfect with a job he didn’t like and a boyfriend who was more like a kid he was rearing 🙄

You are writing your own story Kate and superimposing your own thoughts onto Shulang.. he was already broken before he met Fan Xiao. He was just living a lonely empty life. Yes he had a bf and work but was he really living for his true self? No.. these are very surface level judgment of characters you are doing.

Shulang hasn’t forgiven fan Xiao yet and people are already calling it easy. Listen book reader or not, sometimes we need to let the whole story play out before jumping the gun. This is just the start of a new arc in their life.. and the bad man does turn good for the good man exclusively…

Also you are watching a show not Law 101. What’s with the assault in the last min when it was just heightened confrontation goodbye kiss which dramas do for bringing tension.. you want dramas to become like daily life with super duper morally perfect characters? this is so stupid lmao..

First of all Stockholm is not real.. it’s made up. Second Shulang wasn’t held hostage by Fan Xiao. He had leverage but that doesn’t mean Shulang couldn’t have left him. Even when Zhiyang asks, Shulang says he hasn’t imprisoned me. As I said you are watching the show through your own lens instead of the POV of the characters.

In your eyes Fan Xiao deserves to die.. so no matter what he does it won’t be enough.. better to look for some happy stories to watch. This is NOT for you.

1. No he is not diagnosed as bipolar in the book. He just has episodes of self harm triggered by something like ocean waves and now Shulang’s harsh words. In the moment when he is trying to light the cigarette, he is having an episode and became the villain Shulang thought he was.

2. He says that coz he is going to leak the wrong doings on his family which will get some politicians and mafia involved. The mafia will try to kill him. In the book they did try to kill Fan Xiao but he somehow survived after being stabbed. He initially got six months jail after he became the witness and provided all the proofs necessary to incriminate his family and all the people who did wrong. But due to how bad it was in jail for him they reduced the sentence to 3 months. Since the mail was sent from Shulang’s email, in order to protect Shulang he became the witness himself which made him the target.

Since you want me to spell it out let me do that for you:

1. He got Shulang out of the rut where he was thinking of self harm by creating a scenario where Shulang has to go work for his dream job and get paid a good salary instead of peanuts if he started working himself in the same field.

2. He took care of Bao Ting who helped Shulang coz he knows Shulang is thankful to her for helping him. It’s a debt that Shulang owed which Fan Xiao
paid without letting him know

3. He didn’t just let Shulang go when he was at his all time low coz that would be equal to just killing him. Negative thoughts don’t just go away coz you are out of a toxic relationship. He first made sure that Shulang was better before letting him go and not only did he let him go, he also sent himself to jail in the process in order to atone for his sins.

4. The lady clearly called him to help with Tian Tian because Fan Xiao has obviously been helping her with him all this time. Otherwise why would he call him instead of the man who saved her child?

5. Since he knows Shulang is lonely, he asked the lady to call Shulang instead so that Shulang can have Tian Tian by his side,

I don’t know what you mean by he is still stalking him.. if you mean taking care of him without disturbing him or getting in his line of sight then yes.. he is doing that.. but both the times they met were by accidents and it is pretty clear.


P.S. I think you have already made up your mind about Fan Xiao’s character and is only seeing him through your own lens and not through the lens of the author or the protagonist which is Shulang

Their release calendar said it will release on 3rd Jan.. and Yunyi also said in livestream their show will end after new year

For most folks who are well versed in danmei’s like this his redemption arc still stands as one of the best ever written.

It was so healing seeing Shulang happy with Tian Tian making dumplings 😍😍😍

2019 and 2020 had plenty of such characters.. it’s not new but there is re emergence..

We are actually running in circles with this narrative. We all know it doesn’t justify what FX did… but it does let us know why he did that so that we can empathise with him.. Yes villains also deserve empathy when they are wronged. And the show is very faithfully adapting the novel so no.. you don’t get anything super extra in the novel.. he is still a scum and will be a scum both in the show and the novel.. that’s his character..

Yeah but Shulang never met fan Xiao while laying bricks. I am not saying he won’t tail Shulang any more lmao.. that’s just not him.. but he is actively choosing not to disturb him or his life…
