Yeah but from character perspective, it didn’t surprise me that Shulang took him back. It felt like the only logical thing to do based on how the author described these characters in the last few chapters..
Right!? Like when I was reading the novel I was getting more and more pissed with this dude and seriously, SERIOUSLY…
The problem is many of the comments are geared towards the people who are being obtuse with FX character and victim blaming Shulang instead of critique on the actual story writing or the show.. I don’t want people to not check out the show coz some people have no media literacy.. YKWIM?

It’s the same way I experience stories too which is why a lot of times I want bad endings too.. but if the author wants to give them a happy ending I would not judge the author or people who like it. Often times the redemption arc is half assed. I want examples of novels that you mentioned where tone is serious and the Red flag ML is forgivable according to you.. most of the ones I read with scum gong trope are just as bad as FX.
Read it.. You will see a lot of FX’s actions during their second time together in a different light.. The author did warn people to drop the book if they expected bad ending after chapter 84.
In the silent love chapter I don’t think that was running in Fan Xiao’s mind. He just wanted to connect with Shulang body and soul.. so he would have gone through with it if Shulang did him anyway…
Yun qi played his character soo well..we all are irritated with his behaviour towards shu lang..I was soo annoyed…
For his first acting job yunqi is doing a really good job but Yiran is on another level.. There is no comparison coz Yiran has been doing it for a few years now. For me personally the reason why I am annoyed with Fan Xiao is coz Yiran gives me a very visceral performance as Shulang where I can feel his pain and suffering and I just want to hit Fan Xiao…
I haven't read the novel, so I don’t know how it ends, but the only ending I'd consider "good" is if…
The Author Su Erliang's Note: For those wishing for a Bad Ending, you may stop reading right here. Fan Xiao lights a cigarette: "Keep reading. Don't make me say it twice.
A lot of people are conflating audience opinion with how the show is made. The show never once romanticises Fan Xiao’s behaviour. In fact they have shown time and again how he is despicable. Yes the author gave him a solid back story with psychological trauma but not once does the author try to justify his actions based on that information. She leaves it to the audience to decide for themselves how they perceive fan Xiao. The writer or director cannot control how the public reaction is towards him. To judge the merit of the show based on that is very unfair to the show. This is such a good production with great cinematography and storytelling.
Also some people are doubting the author but let me tell you the reason you despise fan Xiao so much is coz she made him look like a devil incarnate with her words. She did it… so have some trust in her. It is her story and she won’t suddenly change the personality of her characters drastically just so that she can give them a happy ending..
P.S. Not everything is black and white in this world. And sometimes villains too get to have their own happy endings.. the world will be too boring if it always followed the binary of right or wrong, good or evil, etc.

There is a chapter called silent love in this book which is one of the saddest pieces of Yaoi I have ever read coz both the leads are hurting so badly coz one of them who is a monster doesn’t know how to love and the other one can no longer love this guy that is in front of him coz he is a monster. It’s peak.
Sanitising this sort of twisted storytelling by adding fluff or romance (the way people think one should love) just so that the monster is palatable to the general audience is just a big no from me.
