If you were as lonely as Shulang his entire life, you would think differently. They trauma bonded with each other early on and sometimes pride leads to us being miserable in life. Shulang is a very smart person but he is also lonely. And the only person who has ever made him feel alive was Fan Xiao. So think from his perspective and then it will feel like the ending was indeed best for them.

Let me help you with what happened in the show -

Fan Xiao sends the email which incriminate his whole family including himself. This is not a minor case… it is an international case which involved even politicians. Do you think Fan family will have any major power after such thing happened? They even let us know they are all jailed by letting us hear the radio news.. and Fan Xiao isn’t just back after 10 days… he is back after years.. In both instances of them meeting again, he is working. If you watched the show, Shulang and his friends planned to go to the French restaurant but ended up going to the Thai one.. so how are you sure fan Xiao planned to be waiter there just so someday Shulang will plan to come to the French restaurant and then decide to go for Thai instant in the last minute?

I would understand if it makes sense but here it doesn’t make any sense lol.. like whatever is shown in the show is enough to know both instances of them meeting are coincidences. If he did scheme it wouldn’t be so random.

So what do you want the other person to do then? Not do anything to atone for their mistakes? Forgiving someone is entirely upto self but owning your mistakes and making the wrongs right is totally up to you and you should do it without expecting to be forgiven. As simple as that.

Rating should be given based on the merit of the show to be honest and technically this show has been superior quality. EP 12 has the emotional push and pull that makes it a hard but compelling watch..

Eh.. Asian countries have the most weirdest and insane shit drawn on the packets of cigarette.. filmmaker’s have fought several times to stop censoring of smoking.. don’t just say whatever you feel like.. it’s an adult show.. no need to censor smoking now 🙄😒

The way you write is just simply magical. It is so hard to explain why some of us can see a shift in Fan Xiao in EP 12 and why this felt like a big turning point in the story but you did it and made it so much simpler to understand with your words.. Please keep doing this for the next few episodes coz every episode this show delivers something really intricate without telling but by just showing. It sometimes becomes hard for the masses to decipher these intricacies thus losing the charm of this show for them. I hope you keep doing this more often. Love it.

And that too after the delivering the best episode of the season which is EP 12. May be people just don’t like angst.

You are right on point. The context clues are right there. YSL is a lifeless doll when FX tries hard to be a doting partner. Shulang just can’t accept it and has no will to live. So FX has to be the devil to get him out of this funk and bring him back to saving people again (in this case his mentor).

All these technical jargons and yet YSL says in front of Qin that FX didn’t imprison him.. You are missing nuance again and context.. not everything is black and white. It’s okay to feel how you feel but from character perspective Shulang definitely doesn’t feel this way. He is hurt emotionally because of all the lying and manipulation and deceiving but rape is not one of them. Shulang would have fucked him up if it was rape like how he did after realising that FX sexually assaulted him.

Nobody watches fiction like this and goes I want a guy like Fan Xiao who will abuse and coerce me into staying with him while I am moved to the brink of death. That doesn’t happen. This is a wildly popular genre not because women want to be abused and DV’d! It because these kind of characters are exciting. There is absolutely no need to keep bringing up this point every day. The tags in the show are enough for ADULTS to know what they are getting into. This whole I know better than the rest of the audience so let me teach a lesson is tiring and unnecessary.

There is a clear difference between dubious consent and no consent. You cannot call every sexual interaction between them in the last two episodes as rape. That actually muddles the definition of what rape actually is. I have not once said that the relationship is not abusive and that there is coercion and blackmailing involved. Do not put words in my mouth. But by always bringing real world discussions into a fictional story you are not allowing others to enjoy this as a piece of fiction. Nobody watches fiction for educational purpose. Please be real for a second. This genre is wildly popular amongst women not because they want to be raped or be in an abusive relationship. its because it makes for great storytelling and interesting characters. Green flags are vanilla and boring and when people watches fiction they watch it to escape reality not be made aware of it every second. It is so annoying when people keep preaching what one should and shouldnt take away from watching a show. Take your lessons for yourselves and let all the adults (yes it is an adult show) who are watching decide for themselves what lessons they want to take away from this show.

You are actually basing this off of something you haven’t even completed reading or watching. Yes you can disagree but may be wait till you actually reach the part and then see if you actually d disagree or not. Preemptively disagreeing without even knowing what will happen is a bit much don’t you think?

When you watch a show you need to trust the process and believe that the author knows these characters well and won’t make them do things that are out of pocket for them. You can discuss what ending might be based on what you have seen and based on where you think it’s headed. Just do not involve the author in this and expect her to make changes based on what you think should be ending.. that’s all I ask.

By injecting yourself in the shoes of a character, I meant that one shouldn’t put themselves in the characters’ shoes coz this often leads to biased discussion.. Instead one should try to view the other characters through the lens of the character themself.. like seeing FX through YSLs lens instead of your own…
