I had really quite high expectations from the drama too. But its different version is interesting to see, even if it is boring at some parts, as a book fan I can't help but see how the drama plot ends up, Xiao Zhan also keeps me watching on. Didn't know San Shao willingly approve of a different version than the book/manhua/donghua, quite a surprise. Zhang Wei has quite grand plans. He wants to make his own fantasy world like there is of Disney. Having read almost all his books including the Douluo Dalu series, I think it really deserves it. The DD universe and the shared universes created by him are so well done and great. If you ignore the language/literary elements/genealogies, his novels are on par or even better than Tolkien's . Hope in the near future there are more better adaptations of his work.

Weird! Xiao San just believed what a random person told him about, that is not expected of him( very poor character he has in the drama), it seems as he doesn't even believe his father. Tang Hao was a man who had been inactive for long. What ill he can do? He was busy lamenting his wife's death for years, then later went to live with her when Tang San left for for school. Hope it will clear up soon and he has proven innocent.

If they said that Season 2 is about Tang San's daughter, than it is the adaption of Douluo Dalu 2 : Unrivalled Tang Sect. In that the MC will be Huo Yuhao and his wife to be, daughter of Tang San and Xiao Wu, Tang Wutong. Know that the second novel is set 10,000 years later after the first one.m
How she dies? Long story short, she was attacked by many powerhouses of the Soul Hall, know that at this time, they knew she was a soul beast. A red soul ring, almost all soul masters thirsted for it. Tang San did his best, he was killing himself to save her. But when he was just about to die, Xiao Wu sacrificed herself, she became the soul ring of Tang San.
Later, she is resurrected by Tang San, when he becomes Titled Douluo.

Yeah, I have read almost all the novels of Tang Jia San Shao. And Douluo Dalu 1,2,3 , watching anime ever week, reading Douluo Dalu 4 right now too as the author is releases it everyday. Compared to the novel, it is not good. But I would say, it is really difficult to bring all that high fantasy element on the live screen with the low budget they had. The scriptwriters deviated from the novel story, that disappoints. Apart from CGI and story deviation("poor" subplots in some episodes), I would say the drama is not that bad, it is alright. Xiao Zhan has acted well as always, he is the one also which makes one continue to watch the drama.

It may look funny in the beginning but Oscar is really a useful and talented soul master. He will be an integral part of the team in winning battles later on. By the way, that Titan Giant Ape is a dear friend of Xiao Wu, as close as brother, his name is Er Ming. He was just missing her, so he took her away for some time.

I think the dubbing is alright, not that bad. Also, Xiao Zhan dubbed his own voice, which is far better than many other dramas.

The donghua is really better to watch in terms of everything. As of now, the difference b/w donghua and drama is of heaven-earth. The CGI is not that good in live action, they did not have a budget, also it was shot 2 years before.

I would say drama wise, in the beginning episodes, later too, Fight breaks sphere was quite well done compared to Douluo Continent. I hope, the later episodes are good to watch, because the starting ones, are really boring and not at all like the book. It is quite ironic because Fight Breaks sphere's novel Battle through the Heavens is quite poor in terms of plot compared to Douluo Dalu still its drama was better than DD's as of now. Let's see further!

She does fall in love with Tang San in the novel but not now. It is when they met each other in the Slaughter City, and Tang San used a fake name , Tang Yin, he was around 18-20 yrs old then. At that time he had become handsome too, with blue hair, that everyone was attracted to him. She came to like him very much at that time( as she didn't know he was really Tang San), but when Xiao Wu died, she knew she had no chance at all and the one she liked was her enemy. Don't know how it goes in the drama though. In the novel and anime, Hu Liena was never in Shrek at all, and she was the actual disciple of Bibi Dong, heir to the Supreme Pontiff of Soul Hall. She was really pretty too.

That is just the what the scriptwriter added. The real Tang San was not at all like that he would kill others "unjustly" to save others. As he said, "Better be a broken jade than an intact tile", his ideals, principles, mattered the most to him. But yeah, Xiao Wu was his weak point. The only people who really deserved his hate and suffered from it bitterly were those of the Soul Hall. In the novel, he was expert in dealing with poisons, having learnt about them in his previous life in the Tang Sect. He would have easily resolved the poison here by himself, but the scriptwriter , ah!!! And Xiao Wu was never poisoned in the novel, actually, boring and perverted sub plot!!

It is indeed loosely based on the novel, adaptation wise, I did not like the drama in that aspect. I would say that Xiao Zhan has kept me going on till now.
Yeah, about the cultivation you mentioned, there are some exceptions to this criteria too, I don't want to cut, just that some interested people may be curious about it. For eg, with a strong spiritual power, one can defeat someone with 2-3 rings above as well(not Titled Douluos). Both Xiao San and Yuhao had strong spiritual power, Wulin too. So, they could defeat and even kill people with higher number( not more than 2 usually) of soul rings than them. Purple demon eye increases spiritual power, some medicinal plants also help in that, they are found in the Yin Yang Ice Fire Well. Also, Twin Martial Soul Masters hold an edge above others, because at the same ring level, they have greater soul power than other soul masters. This is indeed a power oriented world. It is not that one gets an ability to kill a soul beast but it is necessary to kill one to break through bottleneck and gain soul skills, there are exceptions to this rule as well. All those 100000 yr old soul beasts who convert to humans, automatically gain soul rings on gaining the requisite soul power. 10-20 000 yrs from now, this world will change when Yuhao brings a brilliant technique where one can gain soul rings without killing soul beasts. As said by Xiaogang, that even if you don't gain a soul ring, your soul power will still increase if you keep on cultivating, but of course you may not gain soul skills, that is quite an important fact. Also, that soul rings are not the only things by which one can gain Soul Skills , there is one more thing that is rarer than gems, it is Soul Bone!!
If you don't have high soul power and are lazy but still want to be a kinda Soul Master and not a "muggle", you must attach yourself with either of the two empires Tian Dou or Xing Luo, or become a part of one of the top powerful sects, or go to Martial Soul Hall or just go by boat to the Sun Moon Continent, farewell if you die by sea soul beasts. Hahah!!

The biggest secret of Tang San is not Clear Sky Hammer Soul and being a son of Tang Hao, but the origin of Tang Sect techniques, which he learnt in his previous life in another plane, he almost never revealed the truth to anyone, twisting a bit. Telling people that he came across a book in childhood. I think only when he became Sea God did he tell others.
Of course the drama removed all that, spoiling all the consistency of the story.

He is really funny. Originally he is quite a money lover as well as lazy, those traits will be revealed later after Shrek Academy becomes the top in the continent after winning top place in the Continental Soul Master Competition ( not sure about the drama though)

In the novel and anime, his father Tang Hao, mother(yeah, she is alive, though still a plant!), Yu Xiaogang, Flander, Zhao Wuji knew about it. Although Xiao San refused admitting about it in beginning, but it was clear to them, from then he never hid anything about himself from his master, except the origin of Tang Sect techniques( from previous life). Why he does not practice Clear Sky Hammer, it is also because his father wants his main martial soul to be Blue Silver Grass and when he becomes a Titled Douluo, he will add rings to Hammer soul too, also because using Hammer soul, he would be noticed by Soul Hall, so to keep him safe. I am not sure if Xiao Wu really knows about it, although she is childlike(only in the beginning), she is after a a 100000 yr old beast, maybe she knows(not mentioned in novel).Tang Hao specially came to beat up Zhao Wuji after he took such a fierce examination of Tang San and others, so he and Flander knew the truth. Later, more people will come to know about it like Liu Erlong, Dugu Bo, Ning Fengzhi, Xue Qinghe, Tai Tan( quite far way from that point). When he reveals it in the Continent Wide Soul Master Competition, everyone will know about it.
