But there are indeed readable translations which we can read, better than machine translations like lnmtl. Two chapters of them are released everyday. It depends. But personally, reading novel and then watching drama is a double edged sword, I will hope that the novel is respected, so my demand in that case is high. I will be familiar with the storyline, but if the drama goes wrong, there may be chances I may not enjoy it. But not reading it also has its problems, because the novel is so big, that they won't be able to cover each and every detail in the drama, so a lot of things will be missed out which may trouble the viewer a bit, as he/she won't be able to understand a whole lot of many things.
I would suggest you can start reading the novel if you wish and have the time for it, there won't be much harm, you would be better prepared. But as the reasons given above it depends. For me it is not much of a problem, because I rarely keep extremely high expectations from a drama, even though I would like if they obeyed the book and make the live-action worth watching and Xiao Zhan shines.

Read the novel, it is way better, if you liked the drama, you would surely find the novel to be even more interesting and enjoyable.
