On Sunset x Vibes: Uncut Version Jul 8, 2024
10 minutes into episode 4 and the show still sucks. Out of the 3 BLs I'm currently watching, this is the worst.
At least Love and Sea got better this week... though it took half of its run to move up a gear... but the show is shorter so it's more bearable.

Do I drop this?
Well no. I found a very good use for it. I'm working at home and sometimes I need to "empty my brain" for 10/15 minutes before going back to work... What to do then?

Watch this. Completely brainless. No interest whatsoever. Easy on the eye but so bad you don't feel like you want to add "just another minute" to your break.
Might probably going to take a whole day or two to finish one episode... but at least I'm being efficient and not being overly obsessed with a show to the point of stalking its thread or reading the novel.

So thank you Sunset x Vibes. I'm grateful for you helping me being productive.

Bank... I'm so sorry for you... I have no hate for any actors even if I think their acting is bad...
But you really are not helped. I can't believe there were 3 screenwriters for this.

What the fudging fudge did they smoke?

Figured... I had posted a youtube link but I don't know why I can no longer see it...
Anyway, trying to repost... The link I had posted was actually this one:

They speak about lots of things but they end up talking about the Burning Sun affair around the 13/14 minutes mark.

why the rating is not going up? 😭😭😭 This drama deserves more. I am Bl fan. And as many of you know, once…
You'll grow out of that phase at some point. A good story is a good story regardless of it being BL or not.
I enjoy BLs but I don't watch ONLY BLs (and thank God because most BLs are pretty mediocre), but It's true I've noticed on MDL that lots of people who watch BLs have watchlist that constists almost only of BLs which I found pretty puzzling.
I hope one day we get to the point where BL is no longer a genre it itself, a time when we'll watch a story just for the story which just happens to have gay characters.

This is not now though.
Anyway if you only stick to BLs, you're missing out on lots of very good shows... but your loss.
Glad you're enjoying this one though.

Looks pretty dramatic... We'll see. Not a fan of calling a man "wife" but whatever... I'll take what's provided. At least it changes from the usual BL fare.

I'm going to trust you on that because I don't like to watch anything beyond the trailer of a drama before having watched it. I honestly don't care for the NC scenes, if there are, good, if there are not, it doesn't matter.
NC scenes don't make for a good drama anyway, but I do want the relationship to be very clear and not vaguely suggested without being suggested as the Chinese have been doing since forever. But by your comment, it's not gonna be the case... So hoping for the best.

I'm not sure this is not going to be partially censored... In the description it's writen Thailand/Taiwan... So I was relieved.
Then I checked the trailer and their accent is definitely Chinese... Checked the actors and they're Chinese... And we know what happened to all actors that acted in censored BLs previously.

I'm gonna wait for opinions before checking this one out because even it's co-produced by Thailand, I can't help but think this is not going to be "Thailand level of freedom production".

I don't really understand what you mean. 15kg over the course of 2 months is pretty okay for a man with an intense…
I put a thumbs up... But I still disgress. I checked what this HIIT is about. Turns out... It's actually what I've been practicing for the past 5 years. I just didn't know it was called like this. Basically I do what is called "Body Attack" by Les Mills at the gym with our coach. It's one hour of very intense training and it turns out that the movements involved and the intensity of the training is what are featured in what people called HIIT. This with a bit of Body Pump. I'm not a true sport's woman but I do exercise 3 hours a week sometimes more. I'll give you that it's really efficient。 Checked my pulse 3 weeks ago to the doctor. It's currently 40 beats per minute when resting.

Turns out I started this, weighing around 57 kg for 158cm ( I was already exercising plus I'm Black so we tend to weight heavier for the same frame compared to Caucasians and Asians)...

And I'm currently at 62.5 kg (there are periods when I had to reduce my exercice due to work and there was the COVID, that was awful but the trend is clear, I'm putting on weight).

Outward shape is still the same but I've built quite a lot of muscles on top. Shed a bit of fat but not that much. Of course it's my own personal experience but yeah... Doesn't matter... It's all a matter of food when it comes to weight.

You can do all the exercise in the world if at the end of the day you don't reduce the amount of food you eat, you're not gonna shed the weight... And it is NOT EASY. Personally the more muscles I build the more I always feel hungry. It's like my body is telling me to eat more because it's got more muscles to feed which is all great but I haven't managed to get rid of the fat that was there in the first place.

Anyway... I'm almost 100% sure he didn't do that. 1. It's really really intense. You can't do that with an empty stomach. You consume a LOT of calories and lose a lot of water. No joke. I used to not pay attention to that at the beginning until I almost fainted once and the coach told me to eat a very hearty meal 3 to 4 hours before coming. Fast sugar doesn't last long enough to feed your muscles during the whole ordeal, and if you eat too late you're bound to throw up.
2. Ji Sung has been having severe back problems for years of which he talked about in several interviews.
3. Of course there are other versions of HIIT, with bikes for instance... But nonetheless... You're definitely not gonna lose 15 kg in two months without starving yourself.

As for Korean actors... Men pay attention to their looks... But it can't be worse than women who literally starve themselves all the time. Being athletic is not really popular in Asia when it comes to women. You have to be petite and cute or tall and lanky. They even do injection to reduce the size of their trapezium or calves.

UEE is naturally pretty wide shouldered and muscular. People used to always comment about it. Now she looks like a skeleton in all of her dramas. All Korean actresses starve themselves but for her it's even more apparent because you can see she's got bigger bones and muscles than most Korean women in the entertainment circle. Except if she was lean but at a more healthy weight, she'd probably be much more curvy and this would not correspond to Korean beauty standards. Gotta control the size of your thighs。 Can't have them stuck together even if it's mostly muscles but whatever.

At least men can exercise and look good in a healthy way.

Though I do agree... I personally like to have good looking actors on my screen. I also consider it's part of the job.

It's medicore... and most (not all) GMMTV shows are the same or worse :)
Well "Not Me" was amazing, " Be my Favorite" was also pretty fun. I personally really enjoyed "The Eclipse", the Thaï remake of "Cherry Magic" was also nice though not as much as the original in my book... I also really enjoyed "Never Let Me Go"...
All of the above are GMMTV dramas and I'm sure there are other titles I'm forgetting.

Crazy Handsome Rich's trailer was just dreadful so I didn't bother. I usually only check the writer of a drama when the drama is terrible so as to avoid bothering in the future. Among all the dramas you mentioned, I only watched I Feel You Linger in the Air which was nice but like you I didn't like it as much as most people. Lovely Writer and Something in my Room were already on my mental To Be Watched List ans I wasn't planning to watch Hidden Agenda because the trailer looked meh.

I personally think trailers are important cause I don't have the time to bother with all shows. Sometimes it's misleading (like here... I was expecting something more fantasy oriented and we're not getting this so far but I'm still holding out hope) but frankly in any romance story you know who is gonna end up with whom so I don't see why it defeats the purpose of watching the show when it comes to romance at least.
The process is more important than the end-game.

The thing is if you watch too much of the same thing... you start not enjoying shows you would otherwise have enjoyed. It happened to me with K dramas at some point. Got fed up with some trends and what I considered poor plots. Then watched a whole lot of very mediocre Thaï and Chinese shows... Find myself with a renewed appreciation for my K dramas. It didn't change my mind regarding some of the shows I've watched... But I came to realize they weren't as bad as I thought they were because I was so used to shows being "too good" that I ended up considering the "mediocre" as bad...

But then I saw how lazy and how deep into the shitty hole a storyline could be writen... and I was enlightened.

But that's just my opinion.

Geez... Is it customary in China to summarize the whole novel at the back of the novel? I'm genuinely curious。

Yeah... You're being very nice here because personally I think It's tiptoeing the line between mediocre and bad.

As for GMTTV. I don't personally really mind. I enjoy BLs but I don't watch only BLs. GMMTV produces a lot of them. If you watch everything, sure, I'm sure there's a lots of mediocre shows, but the few I've watched I really enjoyed since again... I pick what I think looks the most interesting. I don't watch every single BLs that comes from GMMTV. Sometimes I like to put my brain off and watch something silly and I think GMMTV does that pretty well. They have some non-ambitious shows but I still enjoy them nonetheless.

I'm not enjoying myself here though.

I'm less forgiving when it comes to companies that don't produce that many shows. If you don't produce a lot, make sure you produce quality content for your viewers when you do. They very obviously had the budget so WHY?

Why so many BLs are cursed with so many bad storylines is beyond me. I don't get it. It's not like Thaïland can't produce good shows...

EDIT: HOWEVER I do have to mention that Be Mine Superstar, Coffee Melody, Fahlanruk and Unforgotten Night are still wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy worse... So I've got to remind myself occasionally that I indeed watched entire dramas that were way way way way way worse than this one.

Ok...
On the verge of dropping this.
The Hong Kong segment had the foreign talking part not translated in English... I had to switch to Korean subs.

Do I drop this now or since it's 12 episodes, do I give this series 1 more chance next week to get better?

I know I have to switch my brain off when I'm watching this show... But I'm afraid at this point I'm destroying my brain cells at the same time... It's just that terrible.

I thought that since it's 1 episode per week, even if the episode sucks it wouldn't feel long but I was sorely mistaken.

It's THAT bad.

Next to this, Love Sea is a work of art... and I'm not particularly enjoying that one either... But at least in that one, I have a beautiful scenery and the two leads have amazing chemistry and they're selling the spice like there's no tomorrow. It's meh so far, but at least it's watchable and I don't feel like answering my emails while I'm watching the show.

Here we got teased in episode 1 and now Salin's acting like a 12 years old, Mos finding it cute ( NOBODY in his late 20s would find Salin's behavior cute just mind-blowingly immature and annoying) and acting like a creep. Everything is so cringe... but not the good kind of cringe...

I hate to drop shows which are that short but my....

Giving myself a couple of days to decide... Or maybe next week? Seems there's more happening next week.
Oh sorry.

Seems there's FINALLY something happening next week.

I'm not on twitter. Saw one of your comment on one drama page ^^
And I saw last Twilight and Unknown. Gave them respectively 7.5 and 8...
Enjoyed them but not as much as most people ^^ But I get your comment on liking shows people hated... One that fits that category for me is Tonhon Chonlatee. The rating on MDL is 6.9, I saw lots of people criticizing it but still decided to give it a go. Final ratings for me 8.5. Loved it :D

So yeah ^^

Not Me is actually my favorite BL of all time so far... That one was one of my "no expectation" list.
Unfortunately yes, we're very different. I've started my BL journey with Theory of Love and Not Me. Both dramas are still among my favorites but unfortunately after these two I've watched a few I really loved but most BLs I've watched... (this was actually the year of Not Me, Love in the Air, Cutie Pie and Kinnporsche and it sort of put the bar too high for everything that followed) I found them pretty mediocre... So I've gotten used to just not expect anything.

But I'm very happy to see that we're having way less University and High school dramas and more dramas with interesting stories that just happen to have gay characters ( whether women or men). Give it a couple of years and maybe they could get on par with most "mainstream heterosexual shows". At least that's what I'm hoping for.

Fun test by the way... But the VS were unfair... Appart from 4 minutes, I had to eliminate Golden Blood very early, though I'd say this one is my third most anticipated BL of the 2nd semester... But yeah... We'll see :D
Jess only has Golden Blo Jun 29, 2024
I got Century of Love VS 4 minutes from the get go... Which made me eliminate one of my most anticipated drama from the very beginning... Bleh.

Final results:
Winner: Century of Love
2nd: Hidden Moon

But well don't care much.
When it comes to BL, it's very rare that dramas live up to your expectations. The only BL that managed to live up to my expectation so far is Kinnporsche。

Most of the time every time I have high expectations I'm disappointed and when I don't expect anything I'm pleasantly surprised.
Last year I didn't expect anything from "Be my Favorite" and yet it was one of the best BL aired by GMMTV that year. Didn't expect anything from "My Stand In" either, and yet, I'm hooked.

So I'm gonna patiently wait for these drama to be released... put them all on the same "expectation level" i.e ZERO and see what happens.
