"Jae On is Deok Su’s real name, not Jun Hwa’s sister. When Deok Su’s dad said “think about Jun Hwa and Jae On,” he was referring to both of their kids."

I overlooked that part, thanks for claryfying... That's my mistake. Doesn't change my theory though (apart from the dead sister's theory of course)

For the rest, I didn't say Mae Hwa told the Minister of Defense about Deok Su following Jun Hwa's father's order. I think it's pretty clear she's playing both sides at present to stay in the good books of both and will choose which party to stick to once the winning side is more clear.

My theory was regarding what happened in the past. At that time, she followed what Jun Hwa's father wanted because it was pretty clear to her Jae On's father was doomed and she will fall with him if she stuck to his side hence the betrayal. This doesn't mean she happily did it... Just that she felt she had no choice but she still wanted to protect her former mentor's daughter but Jae On/ Deok Su fails to see that aspect because she probably doesn't know that the mastermind behind her father's downfall is not Mae Hwa but Jun Hwa's dad.

I wish we had a funny second lead couple to fill scenes like most other historicals instead of the evil trio whom…
I get you... But since the exam phase is over, I don't think we're going to see them as much as before.

Personal theory there:

From what we got in episode 7, it's very likely Mae Hwa didn't betray Deok Su's father, she was just caught up in the middle of Jun Hwa's father's betrayal of his best friend and guessed her only way to live was to (pretend to) join the winning side.

It's sad but you gotta go what you gotta do to survive. Deok Su is, justifiably, so hanged on the fact that Mae Hwa killed her father that she fails to see the big picture, which namely is:

1. Mae Hwa answers to Jun Hwa's father, hence what happened is probably something HE ordered.

2. Mae Hwa has guessed who she is and could have easily spilled the beans yet she didn't. Thus, it's very likely she did it to protect her from someone or something.

Also... Now it's pretty clear Jun Hwa's love life is doomed. If Jun Hwa's dad hadn't been that greedy, her father would have probably been very happy to make sure Deok Su married him... BUT what happened happened.
They're setting up some very heavy drama ahead for both leads:

1. Deok Su + Jun Hwa ==> Doomed : Can't get married with the son of your father's betrayer and murderer.

2. Deok Su + Hidden Prince ==> Figuratively Doomed since he's from royalty BUT K-Drama so they'll find a way around that.

I still think once Deok Su discovers Jun Hwa's identity and the truth behind her father's death, past her conflicted feelings of betrayal, they'll rekindle their friendship but that Jun Hwa will just accept that they were never meant to be... though I don't think he'll find it in him to forgive his father.
Can't get the girl you like because your father killed her father... and he 'sold' himself to his father to save her...
Well his father is a greedy ass*** so I don't care what happens to him.

Also they mentioned Jun Hwa's sister Jae On but we've yet to see her... So I wonder if she didn't get caught in all that mess and died years ago. I'm much more curious about Go Su Ra now. They all have shady backgrounds and he's literally the only one we know nothing about.

If he turns out to be somebody important in all that mess, that would be one hell of a plot twist.

ALSO, I think episode 7 established pretty clearly that Eun Ho knows Deok Su is a woman. There's all these discussions he had with his bodyguard about how Deok Su was different... and then there's these looks.
I'm sorry but you don't give these looks to a MAN in a Joseon drama (unless it's a BL).

It’s really rich of the bully to claim that the other guy is getting bullied when he’s the one that forces…
Agree. This show is best when we're at the inn and the Haona Quartet is together.
I struggled a bit with episode 7. The beginning was pretty good, they introduced some light moments in spite of all the drama happening but then it became too serious, and you could feel the length.
I'm glad I'm watching this show as it's airing because a slow episode like this would be the type that'd me hesitate to drop it and check all later episodes if everything had been released.

Well that's 1 disappointing episode out of 7 so, I'm not going to hold it against the show but I definitely hope that's the only episode when the Quartet is not together. It's not a particularly original show, but it manages to shine because of the chemistry between the 4 leads. That's basically why people are watching the show, not for the political drama, though they still do need to make the plot move forward.

I haven't watched episode 7 yet. TOO MANY SHOWS on the weekend... I can't keep up.
I just want to say to all of you who are saying that Eun Ho doesn't know... THAT THE TRUTH WILL PREVAIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIL.
I'M RIGHT!

He's just pretending. HE KNOWS.

Bidding my time until I can say I TOLD YOU SO!

That was my useless flexing break. Now back to work 😭😭😭

At this point I won't be surprised if the FL's former mentor was the one really responsible, and she's just pushing…
I think it's pretty clear she's the one who is responsible. She just shifted the blame to Ji Yun because she didn't want to 1. Take responsibility for the suicide 2. Be fired 3. Being shunned by everyone.
In fact, she might have not wanted the suicide of the former CEO... but she sure benefitted from it. I hope the truth comes to light at some point and everyone knows what she did.

Maybe to show another aspect of the working world as things have changed quite alot since it last aired. Lets…
Of course you're going to watch it. They're gonna capitalize on your love for the characters otherwise it can't work... If people KNEW in advance that they were going to play that card, lots of people including myself would not even bother with the first season no matter how good it turned out to be. But they'll need to get back most of the original cast and that's another story though... esp. Kang So Ra... She hasn't been really active since she got married and had kids.

OH MY GOD!
I love her ^^ There's so many things I could relate to, such as the treatment with being mixed-race and living in the countryside... the unfair treatment at work by boss and colleagues and the way she behaved at work.
Well I never rose my voice like that but I always made sure to say my piece before leaving. The only difference is her childhood love story and the fact that I'm not as gorgeous as she is so I never saw the point of wearing make-up as an armor. Also, from experience, men usually treat you better when you're all dolled-up at least on the surface, so that's the only unrealistic part of this episode.

Anyway, not hooked yet, but curious enough to keep on watching this.

Someone who understands genetics tell me what the odds of someone 3/4ths Korean having green eyes (wait, are they…
I know squat about genetics but personal story here:

I'm mixed race myself born out of two parents who are both mixed raced as well.

My mum is arabic looking curly hair ( 8 children in her family, 4 sisters and 1 brother all with the same skin color and hair, 2brothers with very dark skin and freezy hair... and both my grandparents were arabic looking) , my father has a dark coffee cream complexion but wavy hair. Got two brothers: 1 has inherited literally all of my maternal grandfather's traits. Older brother looks like my mother on every aspect except the skin color which is my father's.
I'm the one who inherited equally from both. Got my mother's curly hair but my skin is a light coffee cream shade, though people usually say I look like my father.
Only thing that fell right in the middle for all three of us are the lips. My mother's are very thin, my father's are like... REAL thick.
Ours are in-between.

I've had people ask me if I was from Spain, Marocco, Brazil, Mexico and India to name just a few. I've even had some people ask me if I hadn't had some ancestors from East Asia notably Malaysia, the Philippines and even Taïwan (why Taïwan and not China as a whole I wonder since they're the same people but whatever). Every year I tell myself I should do some genetic tests just to see how many races has gone running through my veins because people are always very curious and I can't answer them for the life of me. From what I understand, up to my grandfathers' generation, my mother's ancestors where traders and travelled a lot by ship hence all that mix. I don't know for my father however.
Both my parents have dark eyes though... But I know there was some mixing with some European colonists in the past and some of our far-away relatives have been born with blue eyes on my mother's side.

I also had a classmate years ago whose father was from Senegal. Don't remember which tribe he was from but basically amongst the darkest you could find in that country (and in the world for that matter). Her mother is your typical blond blue eyed Caucasian type.

Here's the crazy thing. She basically has the same complexion as mine, just slightly lighter, and she inherited her father's freezy hair... and size. Girl is over 180cm...
BUT. She's got a TWIN sister. The girl is literally a carbon copy of her mother. Blond, straight hair, blue eyes except taller.

This does led to several issues which she glossed over when we discussed about it years ago.
As a child the treatment you receive as a black kid from the world as a whole is obviously not the same as when you're white. As unfair as it is, you learn to live with it... but it must be much more difficult when your own sister is getting the royal treatment from people outside and you were literally born out of the same womb... But that's another story.

And then there's always the case of being 'invisibly' mixed, best thing in terms of Society's treatment if you fell on the right side of the 'mix'. Got a mixed Caucasian-Vietnamese friend. Unless he tells you he's half-Vietnamese, it's impossible to know especially since he's got a classic Western first and last name ( his father's).

Anyway, bottomline , you can't predict anything when it comes to genetics. Too many factors playing in the mix.

It has been mentioned several times, but that part has been mistranslated in English it's actually Izmael bombarding…
Honestly the whole thing is pretty stupid ( not talking about the argument it led to, just the shitstorm the channel is getting for something mistranslated).
I can't really tell though. I don't have Netflix... I used err... other means to watch the series, so I couldn't check other languages. All I can say is, I have a fairly good grasp of the Korean language and that part was indeed mistranslated. One could argue it was intentional only if that mistranslation is the same for at least most western countries... So people would have to check say the French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, German etc. versions to see if the same 'mistake' is there. If so, you could argue it's intentional.
Otherwise, it's just an error from the translator ( I get it, it's a big one though... I'm not fluent but the sentence was pretty clear) and they've probably been fired from their job at present given all the heat Netflix is getting.

Lol That's because they were still in the honeymoon phase ^^ The way Eun Ho is, it's like it's literally second nature to take care of her. Although one could argue he's got a very young daughter and Ji Yun is as clumsy as a kid 😂

They uploaded a scene from episode 7 on youtube ( you need to put your VPN to South Korea to see it):https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sILkaMbnTok1st…
Not gonna do a detailed translation but basically its Myeong Ho and his cronies humoring Su Ra regarding Deok Su's situation. Saying how the Haona Quartet have fallen to the bottom of the pit because of Hong Deok Su, how come such a pretty looking dude turned out to be such a frightening murderer blablabla. Myeong Ho adds that he knew Hong Deok Su was weird from the get go and another asks how such an individual managed to get enrolled here... All the while poor Su Ra is staying silent. He's then joined by Jun Hwa who asks where is Eun Ho.

But since he's not getting any reaction, Myong Ho asks one of his friends, how many times somebody must be hit by a cudgel before they DIE. Then he goes on to detail how her life will PAINFULLY with EACH HIT leave her body after about 30 hits... But another friend of his says that Deok Su is such a wimp, she's probably gonna turn belly up after 10.

That's when Eun Ho turns up and kicks the last idiot's chair. When he asks what Eun Ho is doing, Eun Ho answers he's wondering how many times somebody has to be kicked off his chair to die. Then he turns all intimidating and says "Should we... ( test it)?"

1st Answer to this comment is an explanation to what happens in the scene for those of you who don't speak Korean.

Seems it's not gonna turn 100% serious, there's still gonna be some light moment.
Under some videos, I've seen some Korean viewers nicknaming Myeong Ho "조선 말포이" - "Joseon Malfoy".
Gotta say, they've nailed it with that nickname ^^ particularly that scene... It's so on point.
