I would give it 8 for artistic vision including gorgeous visuals even when showing grey reality, for melancholic vibe of unfulfilled love with personal growth and wisdom, but the whole mystery/supernatural thing was not that convincing and the ending dropped it to maybe 7.75 loved the leads and was hoping for more 2ml screen time
so today I rewatched this for the second time since it aired. I did not read the book. I am not agreeing with most reviews here. I thought that the actress portraying the main lead was phenomenal. no other military character played by a woman in any other c drama came across this crude (at times even stupid) but also raw and rough as she did. Not too many actresses in China could do such an awesome job without batting an eye. I admit I've never seen Princess Agents (so I will have to check that one) but I really liked how masculine and detached her character was and how she played it- away better than that puny chick in Legend of the Female General. The story is not a romance or her life alone, there are so many layers to it and I love the moral dilemmas that this drama showed! I can't compare it to the book but the drama itself shows variety of schemes ran by various characters, Royal Court machinations, almost every character have been pushed and coerced to make impossible choices, and nearly saga-like feel for various aspects of their lives (the joyous innocence & freedom at first, gruesomeness of war in the middle and power struggle in the end). I gave it 9 and 1/2 when I first finished it in 2024 I gave it nine and a half after I finished re-watching the second time in 2025 and now I'm giving it 9 and 1/2 again. if you want something equally well done look up Secret of Three Kingdoms.
I know most people did not like Fighting for Love, but I did (I did not read the book) and it was awesome. In my opinion the way how she portrayed the female generalwas much better than any other female general that I had seen in cdrama (granted that I didn't see that many ๐ซค) including the legend of the female general. the roughness, the rawness, kind of dumb and crude was what I really really admired. most actresses with shy away from portraying such and characteristically stupid character. but she did and did it really well hoping that there will be a sequel because the second character pairing with a second male lead deserves more screen time. ๐คฉโค๏ธ๐
Ep 10 ml to fl: you have 9 spiritual roots and all the weapons but still managed to put your self in danger. WAY TO GO! ah the sarcasm with a straight face!๐๐๐
Infuriating first few episodes. My blood pressure went up 10 points and I had to drop it before it started boiling. I survived 20 minutes of this nonsense and am giving it proudly 1/10 points
I prefer romance and this was more transactional relationship between the two of them. Nah... the female lead character was too calculating, aloof and pretty much cold b*tch which is precisely what others called her throughout the series
to anyone who wants to know if this is even watchable... Check out this link: it is a 2.5 hr compilation of major scenes and based on that you get to see the most important parts of the plot sans dumb female characters thank God. If I were to rate it only based on this version - yea, maybe 7.5 or 7,75 given my own made-up parts to fill in the gaps. But I dropped it at ep 3 ha ha ha.
