I love it so far and give it at ep5 the rating of 8.5/10 but... Yang Zi is known for loooong crying/emotional scenes and being though hell and back as a character, so I am getting my stomach meds ready for all the upsetting moments hoping that the worst is behind me.

i agree with the sentiments. Just like 1000 years later in England we had similar double standards for men and women with the latter being taking advantage of, treated like dry goods and disregarded, this era (even though Northern Song was known for incredible advancement in women's affluence) was what any feudal patriarchal society around the world would have been. I am comparing this to Jane Austen's stories of similar crapola that women had to go through to survive and have some sort of stability. Annoying as characters could be, this is pretty good portrayal of chauvinistic stereotypes and what choices it gave women at that time.
