It was not unnecessary pressure. It was blatant and unabashed "You are not good enough to be in the same time…
I am not going excuse or justify how Wei Zhi responded. The only explanation I can imagine is that she wanted to prevent things getting out of hand, especially with Shan present.
I will have to disagree with your assessment of Wei Zhi's father and his discussion with Chong. To me, it was…
Like you, I have experienced both cultures. I was lucky that my future mother-in-law welcomed me into the family with open arms. And she doted on her bi-racial grandchildren.
Again. like you, I understand that Wei Zhi's father has concerns. I know I did when my daughter was getting married (and my son-in-law has a Masters in Engineering!). However, the way it was done appeared to be deliberately intended to humiliate Chong. A private meal meeting at a clearly high-end restaurant screams we are better than you; forget about our daughter and go back to your place.
The point is the parents never trying to understand wei Zhi or her choices
The one thing we have not been told is what type of business are Wei Zhi's parents involved in. Does the novel say? We know that Yi Ming's parents own a private hospital (the one where Yi Ming works?). If the business interests intersect, then we can safely assume that the marriage between Wei Zhi and Yi Ming would have been a business merger.
Finally caught up to episode 18. Who was cutting onions in episodes 16 and 17? I found myself in tears for both…
I will have to disagree with your assessment of Wei Zhi's father and his discussion with Chong. To me, it was nothing more than a longer version of her mother's dismissal of Chong's apology for not have a gift, which was to the effect "nothing you give us would be good enough". It wasn't just rude, it was insulting and patronising.
Her father utterly dismissed the work and commitment it takes to become a national level athlete or even a coach (I am certified squash coach in Canada and Hong Kong). He dismissed his daughter's chosen career; there are more than a few companies successfully producing children's products (Disney, Mattel). And, if their company is successful, then why not offer Chong an opportunity to join it when the snowboarding career is over?
A few comments/observations having watched Ep 17. -- To respond "it is okay, we have everything" when someone apologises for bringing a gift when they visit your house for the first time says more about the host than the guest. Wei Zhi's mother is patronizing, classless, and lacking of manners. -- It is hypocritical of the parents to want to Wei Zhi to be the quiet, subordinate (stay-at-home?) wife when they were both too busy with their business to look after her. -- It is even more hypocritical of her father to tell Chong that his career is not good enough to give Wei Zhi a proper future when he is clearly the junior partner in the marriage. -- If they want to "secure" Wei Zhi's future, why not offer Chong a position in their obviously successful business when he decides to stop competing and coaching?
I understand both comments, but there is an additional factor that I think needs to be considered.
Wei Zhi knows her parents (better than they know her, BTW) and knows that they will react badly to her introducing him as her boyfriend. First, she is introducing her boyfriend, not them. Second, he is not Yi MIng. Third, they are in the hospital for Shan to receive treatment.
The phrasing of your post is provocative, and received the response it seems you were looking for.
I will re-phrase my question post from just below: -- If you do not like Yu Shu xin's acting, why watch one of her shows? -- And, why post here to antagonise people?
Over the run of this show, there have been several times when people have asked about the negative commentators and the poor ratings that they seem to have given, even to episodes that have not yet been aired. For example, Ep 23 has a rating of 7.3 from 46 votes! This morning the following was posted in response to a question about the low rating: "...because is boring, and repetitive, and FL act like an 12 yearls old kid, almost all her roles in all dramas she plays the same in all of them. its boring and childish..and cringe, yes!"
I could ask the person who wrote that why they are watching a show they apparently dislike so much, and then commenting on it. And why watch any show with Yu Shu Xin in it, given the clear dislike of the actor? But, I thought it might be better to open up the discussion to everyone to provide their thoughts and input.
For my part, I am enjoying the show, although I did have a big problem with the Yi Ming character. Personally, if I do not like a show, I drop it. There are many others out there. I certainly would not bother commenting about it or giving it a rating.
Guys, is the drama ending on the 22 like it was supposed to and like it says on MDL, or will it follow that schedule…
I am confused as well. I cannot find any reason why there would be blank 3 days (Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday), and the series ending during the week, not over the weekend.
I start watching this but I get cringe, from first episode not because of fl voice or anything like that but because…
Why does the ML seem to be the first to fall? Because it "sells". When I did my MBA, there was a business case about Harlequin Books, which was a highly successful publisher of romance novels. One aspect of their success was the control they maintained on the structure of the story and its length. The authors were given strict direction on the story, such as the number of total words and the pages when specific events (first kiss, etc.) had to happen. At their peak, the company published over 1,100 novels in a year (over 50% of romance novels in North America).
I don't like Wei Zhi parents, especially her mother but they are no wrong, they need to entrust her daughter to…
Respectfully, that is rubbish, and I have to question whether you have actually watched the programme.
"she doesn't know how to handle things." -- Did you miss the fact that she knew who was behind the AI problem, and still wanted to work with him because she knew he needed the job? -- She has been able to re-assemble her team to produce the comic. -- She went to the ski areas to do research for her new comic. -- She told her mother that she would not marry Yi Ming.
" Wei Zhi is basically a princess, " -- You know that she has her own apartment, and does not go back to her parents very often. -- She has her own career, despite her mother telling her to quit and do something "professional".
"they need to entrust her daughter to a man who can protect her anf no just love her," -- Absolutely not. They need to trust that they have raised their daughter well enough that she can make the decision about her partner. -- They are making her into a tool to help their business and personal connections. It has nothing to do with "protecting her". -- So someone who loves her will not move heaven and earth to protect her?
The preview of episode 17 😭I really hope her parents won’t break them apart…SC needs WZ just as much as…
Those of us who are enjoying this show all agree. However, the "disapproving parents" story has been telegraphed from quite early on. We can only hope that it does not take up too much of the remaining show time.
So it's not only the mom, the dad too... I don't like preview for 17 but I think the couple will stay strong together...
I am hoping that the redemption arc for Yi Ming (I was a big critic of Version 1.0 of him) is completed by him standing up for the two of them and telling Wei Zhi's parents that he supports them.
It is not just the "stable and high income" aspect, but the prestige and status that is assigned to the professions. I would also add that he is not the person they picked. So, Chong has two things counting against him.
