I wish I could send you 5 hearts on this sentiment. I HATE, repeat HATE, the typical interaction trope between the jealous sidepiece and FL. It's old and in this case, SeSe was given way too much story line. The book made sense and went along with LCY's character arc in that he used people as chess pieces. To have him feel anything for SeSe detracted from the love he felt (and I think was surprised at) for XF. As much as I adored the Gu Jian character, the drama also took his interaction with XF too far. That being said, I've got all these criticisms lined up and feel like a hypocrite because I am obsessively waiting for subtitles for the remaining episodes.

No. XF had told LCY that she'd grown up with her father having multiple wives and a harem and that's the reason she was against really falling in love with the prince while SeSe was front and center in their lives.

That would have had me taking an ax to the table. I was really, really worried the writers were going to go in that direction and bring out the rage in the fans.

That scene would have definitely had me flipping the table over. Several times.

Yeah, the conversation (from fastdrama site blog) was Gen Pei talking to LCY about how he had led the country to stability but had worked so hard, mainly out of grief. LCY replied that he was leaving the country to his 3rd brother's heir (he did not have any heirs and only loved XF) and he was going to search for XF. Gen Pei then replies that XF was dead and her grave had long ago grown grass to which LCY tells him he was very much mistaken. As much as I hated LCY's revenge and scheming character, I have to say I'm heartbroken for this ending. Ugh, I have never, ever been this emotionally tied to a story.

I think SeSe got kicked to the curb. From what I read on another website, at the very last, LCY was explaining to Gen Pei how his third brother's son was going to inherit the throne since he had no children.

I see the first two lives the priest talked about, does anyone have an idea what the third one is?

Oh my gosh! Thank you so much for this! I wanted that character waterboarded and thrown from the roof of the Eastern Palace. If he truly told her he didn't every love her and used her, that's close enough for me. I wonder if SeSe, towards the end of her life, copied the late Empresses eyebrows? I think those two were mother and daughter and just didn't know it.

Episode 52 is out in raw form on Fastdrama.me. Reminder to myself: stockpile chocolate, kleenex, anything that helps before rewatching.

There are zero people to share my passion for these stories with, so you cannot believe how grateful I was to watch and read the comments on this show with everyone. Let me know if you find another one that interests you and I'll jump on that bandwagon.

I dropped it at episode 13.

I am not sure which direction to go after this one is done. I've also been watching The Fiery Priest (Kdrama) because the last five episodes have made me laugh out loud. It's that funny. Otherwise, I have no clue which Cdrama will be worth watching.

According to my buddy Marcus Sim on YouTube, China has put a ban on historical TV and internet dramas until June. I was looking forward to Legend of the White Snake also.

I laughed out loud when I read your flipping the tables comment. You have absolutely no idea how many times I've literally yelled at the tv when SeSe is on the screen. If this drama was in my writing hands, I'd have held SeSe's head under water about 20 times before throwing her off a building. Anyway, SeSe is a scheme by LCY and also the alternative love interest, aka "the sidepiece".

I absolutely love a happy ending! In fact, I used to read the ending before I ever started a book. Sad ending was equal to putting the book on the shelf and walking away.

I get really, really angry at Chinese and Korean dramas that end on a tragic note that disrupts the fluidity of the storyline (hello Rise of the Phoenixes). This drama is actually quite the opposite; if it did not end with tragic circumstances of the main couple, I personally feel the story would suffer. And I HATE tragedies but this drama has me this close to obsession. It's just that good.

These last four episodes, I have laughed out loud uncontrollably. Hilarious!

This is, in my very humble opinion, one of the best dramas I've watch but it is complicated and expect to feel every emotion with every episode.
