@chinesedramafan - you should write a book. I'd definitely be the first in line for a signed copy. Your analogy of the different types of men are spot on, in my female opinion. LCY is definitely a true to form portrayal of men (and women) in power. The daily chess games are very real, that personality type puts power over relationships every day. I think, truly, that's what makes this a tragedy so much is the story arc of LCY. He was the boy who never wanted the throne that become the man who could not do without it.

Gu Jian and Gen Pei are my favorites. Actually, I'm enjoying all the characters but LCY is a prince of the palace. Even though he has the capability to be kind, his fallback is scheming and that makes him a great candidate for emperor, a crappy partner for XF. Gu Jian had one moment of weakness in the shape of guilt & revenge and lived with regret. That made this character the most human. Gen Pei is my crush. If he'd had 10% bad boy DNA, he would have run off with XF and protected her the rest of his life.

If a miracle occurs, it might be subbed by tomorrow evening. Viki is subbing and they use volunteer laborers, so the English translation can be anywhere from 12 -48 hours before showing up.

Episode 40 has been subbed (hallelujah!), but I have a question. When XF is talking with General Peo towards the last part of the episode, he's walking away and the wind starts blowing really hard. I'm really bad with symbolism and wondered what this meant?

I've racked my brain trying to figure out if there was a way for these two to live happily after the Danchi tribe was eliminated. I think LCY wanted love, revenge and power. XF wanted the freedom. Neither one really had a choice in the unfolding events in their life. I love @chinesedramafan's suggestion of a midsummer night's dream. That's probably the only way for a happy ending.

On another site for this drama, they also say that LCY forced himself on XF in one of those episodes. I watched 48 but not the one's lead up to it because without the proper dialogue, too much can be mistaken. In the book, they did not sleep together. On the other hand (which does not follow the book AT ALL), him sleeping with slutty-r-us SeSe has me pissed off right now. She's a %$##ing secondary character that does not need this much storyline.

Fantastic article! Usually in the longer dramas, I skip the first four episodes because they are essentially fillers before the story starts. This one has had me obsessed since episode 1! Everything you said about this drama rings true and I'll be there for the tragic end.

You are spot on! The storyline arc for LCY lent a reason for his betrayal and ultimate %$#@ up relationship towards XF but to have him sleep with SeSe made me want to stab the script writer. I agree with you.....if they were going to change the story, have her run away and be happy with GJ or General Pei (I really ship this guy because he's the only single one who did not wear two faces), have 8 kids together and live happily on the plains. And LCY gets a report every year how devoted these two are as a family.

My personal hope is that LCY lives a very, very long life with the lackluster milktoast SeSe and has to sleep with her every......single......night. I have never been so emotionally tied to a character as I am with XF. After episode 9, there was no way for her to have a happy ending but I am hoping dearly for LCY to live with an enormous amount of pain and loss for betraying XF.

Oh my gosh! Episode 48, even in its raw form,.....I am going to need lots of chocolate therapy.

I will have a margarita celebration if they allow XF to take her own life and show him living in guilt and loss every.....damn.......day. My version of GBMP happy ending.
