Exactly my take on this. The FL does not know how to prioritize their relationship and she has never shown her true feelings to him and has made him insecure. That is why she had no right to be affected when Chloe confessed to him. She makes him feel very confused and insecure.

Well she seems to be doing everything with him - like watching a movi, accompanying him on a camping trip and having much deeper conversations with him. I mean the ML is right - they are on two different orbits and there is a distance between them. The FL is the cause for that - I don’t even know if she actually loves him. On the contrary I see that Chloe admires him more and likes him. The FL seems to be stuck in her teen years and the ML cannot get to close to her no matter what he does .
