I am going back to Lighter and Princess

And thank you I am perfectly capable of understanding everything. I do not need any personal jabs here. Any character taking the victim tag and looking only for sympathy from the audience is not my cup of tea. She is already a damsel in distress at that point and a weak character. She really was self righteous and had a holier than thou vibe to her which was despicable. Just because my opinion is different it does not mean that I do not understand . I can say the same thing - that you did not understand some things or your interpretation is wrong . Everything is subjective so we can respectfully agree to disagree and not make personal jabs.

I agree with that too - NiaoNiao was being stupidly stubborn. They wasted 5yrs and it would have been more if not for the near death experience that made her realize what she was going to lose

I don’t like damsels in distress. I like strong women. But I don’t think she was strong. She was very damaged- so damaged that her emotions were all over the place. Yes she trusted people who were nice to her too easily and the fact that she was young and did not understand a lot of things did not help. She was too naive with everyone and her abandonment issues consumed her. I feel a lot of pity for her and because of that she had no empathy. She did trivialize what the ML went through and took too long to forgive him. That is one aspect I did not like - she was stupidly stubborn till the end. But then it’s OK she was very young and it took her a while to understand. They both are wrong in their own ways and did not know how to handle what happened but the ML was very sincere to her while she held herself back. But then she is not a risk taker when it came to relationships because she had never experienced love or caring. But you can be a victim only for so long. That is all I meant. She is very complex and damaged . A very difficult person to live with . But don’t assume that I like damsels in distress - because liking or not liking a character is very subjective. I loved the ML here and felt really bad for him. And that is my personal opinion

No this does not have anything to do wihh th being handsome at all. It is more about deep understanding of the character and translating ot for the audience where the audience can identify and feel. It is like when you read some books and ya a literally imagine and feel everything a character is going through but her the person is emoting all that and it makes it more complex. I have watched the other two dramas and I actually did not like his characters there. His true acting prowess came out here I think . And yes he was amazing. And it’s also Bai Lu I think - she brings out the best in all her costars - this is something I have noticed in all her dramas

Yes the performances of both Bai Lu and ZLH were very nuanced. But yes we know Bai Lu always performs well- it is ZLH who is the revelation. He embodied this dark character beautifully

Also she can meddle in palace politics and take the CP and empress’s side but heaven forbid that powerful man was involved politics - it was such a sacrilege and she felt betrayed. She used him for her purpose. He never admitted to the tiger tally thing till the end - that would have killed her right there.- but yes she felt betrayed -sure. She broke of the engagement finally also to side with the the CP and empress. Sure she can do all that. I can go on- so many things wrong about her. I will stop here by saying SHE DID NOT DESERVE HIM- not even a little

Well he was not planning to do what he did till the last minute. What happened to him was much much bigger than poor NN’s broken heart . Putting things in context she was being very petty and demanding when he was at his lowest point. Could he really have told her who he was and put her and her family in danger. Of Ling Yi had killed LBY that night - the next person he would have gone for was the Cheng family. They were all ruthless. And how easy is it to talk about that kind of trauma? LBY had only his word- no evidence for what he went through . Yes poor Shawshank was so hurt. You cannot get me to take her side no matter which angle I look at it from. Yeah sure it’s great - she would have gone down with him- it’s so nice to say those words. He became a criminal so he let her go not wanting to implicate her. What does she do? She uses her abandonment issues to kick him away. Seriously- yep wonderful way to handle a relationship. She is always the victim. She was weak -not a strong woman at all

The truth is she did not stand by him. And the way everything went down was not what he expected either. You cannot trivialize his agony for love . That too for a fickle minded woman like her. If the death of his parents and his clan did not mean much to him and to add to that his lost identity - then what is his worth . It is not as simple as you make it sound. You really think she would have been spared if she knew the truth? With her being so meddlesome would she have stayed still ? These are all valid questions . So I don’t blame him for not coming clean with her.

Well he did support her with every thing she did right? Yes people always jump to blame the guy for his wrongs . But could he really have told anyone his true identity? Probably not. And that is the point

No her interfering in palace affairs was too much . Also she was very flawed . You can blame your upbringing only so much. She was way too smart to have become like that- she was very stubborn and she stood her ground foe things she could have been flexible about. At a certain point everything becomes a choice. Her breaking up with him was also not right .

You don’t think so? She really was not that likable of a FL . She really did whatever she wanted without considerations for anyone.

Finishing my rewatch of this drama. And this is what stood out for me. Yes Chang Shao Shang had character development- but it was not enough. She was still very self centered and only thought about herself. When her family was in danger- agreed she was perturbed for her dad- but the way she was behaving was atrocious. She never cared for Ling Buyi and she did not support him when everything went down with the revenge for his clan. When he said he was also part of her family he actually meant it all the way but not her. She just broke up with him and left him high and dry when things happened. She is probably the most disliked FL lead. Her selfishness knows no boundaries. I seriously question if she really loved him. It seemed like it was all lip service with her

I think that was the first intimate interaction they had. But yea it is a little confusing

Yeah those scenes give you goosebumps- very emotional

lol a lot of us wanted to choke her I think!yes those episodes are the most annoying ones because of the FL and her so called feelings for Zhang Zhe

Agree. FL’s personality was a hard pill to swallow. She makes very bad decisions. Fine she’s flawed but she is just out of control with all that recklessness. She did not have to break up the marriage- that was a little much

But let’s not forget the NiaoNiao had multiple issues wherein she always acted recklessly and he had to get he out of multiple sticky situations. The one thing he did - which he had to- there was no choice there - and she turns away from him. I seriously hated her character - she was self centered and it was self preservation. She had no empathy for him or his situation. He risked his life and position multiple times for her. With that whole tiger tally fiasco itself she would have been beheaded for treason. She basically put her nose everywhere and created a mess. I have never hated a FL character so much. It’s one thing to be strong and independent and smart but she was just a hot mess with no redeeming qualities at all
