I certainly wonder how this will unfold, considering they have *some* encounter the night before the wedding and she still shows up in her wedding attire. Unbelievable that you bring up Thorn Birds! I was a kid back then, and in church even our pastor (catholic priest) brought it up during sermon - he was truly shaken by the plot 😂

I actually think Grandma Xie is the mastermind. I don’t trust her at all. And I believe true justice for the Shens equals true justice for FL’s mother. They died in the same night for a reason imo.

My point is that some people have insane screen presence and micro expressions without any formal training, one example (among many) being Heath Ledger. Such actors. While others with formal training may never quite get there. And of course the Oscar is a standard for acting on screen (which actually has its roots in the West). We’re obviously not talking about Chinese classical opera here. It is not the only one, but it is one. (I’m actually in STEM, so I’m quite particular about what is or isn’t a standard 😉)

In some of the latest episodes after FL told ML she wants to write opera under a pseudonym FL says something like (while ML is asleep): you are bold forcing this marriage without even knowing what I think or want.

Which made me wonder: did Han know so much more, really? They hadn’t discussed marriage directly, so was she sure he would have been ok with her writing opera, once married with him rising in rank (apparently it is something the upper classes looked down upon)? Or did she plan to have “the talk” with him after Han’s proposal and saw the possibility to reject the marriage, if the didn’t agree…? I understand she would have preferred Han as a “continuation of her life with parents” but would she have remained as free - and with her parents in the household - if she had married him?

Particularly with acting, though, degrees are overrated. Some of the best actors including Oscar winners never had a formal acting education. (I think the acting in ATC is great, not trying to throw shade.)

Hm. I started out with ATC by chance and got invested, and then when SOTB started, after a couple of episodes SOTB took over for me. I still love ATC, too, but SOTB is just a bit closer to my heart.

This is a real problem in C-drama-world: many want the leads to be perfect and have no flaws at all. With Scarlet O’Hara, who knowingly enters into a loveless marriage for economic security at some point, their heads would explode. And what makes it more toxic is the obsession with the private lives of actors and actresses. (The MDL section of FL is abysmal. It feels like High School.)

I’ve been wondering, whether FL’s mother knew or had something about the case ML’s father was pursuing (the reason why he left Shen Run in her care for the night). Also, what is with the bronze mirror of FL’s mother that according to 1st Madam has some evidence against FL’s father? I don’t think it is a coincidence that they all were killed in the same night…

ML in her perspective is a philanderer, corrupt and hard to see through but wants to use her as a tool, SML is nice but superficial and on a different path - that’s not really a choice to make, so she doesn’t. (If her family even let her choose). She just says “whatever family says” as a cop out. SML just eagerly jumps to conclusions in order to settle things in his favor, and doesn’t give her (nor anyone) even time to protest. Her focus is revenge, not men.

Why would anyone care if she had surgery or whom she dated or how young the guys were she dated (unless it is lower than the legal age of consent, obviously)? It is her life not yours, and nobody forces you to live like her.

But this is where the toxicity of C-Drama begins. Why are people bothered about the private lives of actors or actresses, or even potential surgeries?
The one question that matters is: Do I like to watch them act? And if not then just don’t watch.
Everything beyond that is energy people could better invest in their own lives.
