I like Lin Jin Lou and his bad boy image. The way he dealt with his wife, concubine and evil chambermaids? Wow.…
It is not a matter of imagination: she eventually died in her first life because she was never meant to be with him. The trials she endured because of Lin Jin Lou shaped her personality. If she had married him earlier, he would most likely never have changed.

The woman Lin Jin Lou eventually came to love was not the nobleman’s daughter — dignified, bold, and willing to defend herself despite her tender heart. No, it was a woman of humble birth, forced to go through countless hardships to escape the fate of a beautiful slave. She endured the harshest torments, forged an iron will, and suppressed her true nature. She abandoned her aspirations and resigned herself to being nothing more than an object in the hands of a man, clinging only to the faint hope that one day, after he had grown tired of her, he might finally set her free.

Lin Jin Lou’s abuse and violent temper overshadowed his rare qualities. This is why she kept Song Ke in her heart for so long, despite his decision to pursue ambition rather than choose her. Song Ke’s uprightness, honesty, and kindness were the true reasons for the unconditional love she bore him.

Her so-called love for Lin Jin Lou was not born of genuine affection but of captivity and profound loneliness. Locked away by him, she learned resilience, forcing herself to value the few qualities she could find in him amidst his cruelty, simply to give herself a reason to endure. Confronted with rape, humiliation, and violence, she developed a psychological defense mechanism common among victims: adapting to trauma by minimizing or denying its severity. This was Stockholm syndrome — and it was for this reason that she ended up giving him a chance.

For his part, Lin Jin Lou’s lust and obsession with Xianglan evolved into Lima syndrome. Unlike Stockholm syndrome, in which the victim grows attached to her aggressor, Lima syndrome describes the reverse: the aggressor, despite his position of power and cruelty, begins to develop attachment, empathy, or even a form of affection toward his victim. Yet in Lin Jin Lou’s case, this attachment was anything but noble. His interest in Xianglan was not born of remorse, moral awakening, or a desire to change, but of a devouring obsession. He projected his desire onto her, convincing himself that his fixation was love. The rare gestures of attention he showed were not true compassion but rather the distorted reflection of his possessiveness and lust.

And yet, despite this shift, he never acknowledged the harm he had caused to the women he had broken. He continued to belittle them, to exploit their feelings for his own pleasure and ego. He showed no real interest in building harmony with his concubines or in raising children. Once his interest was gone, he ignored them, treated them with cruelty, and allowed his harem to tear itself apart in chaos. Though he wanted an heir, he cared little about whether he had children or not.

Xianglan was his only exception — not because of true love, but because of Lima syndrome: a paradoxical attachment, born of obsession, that made her the only woman he could never discard, even as he destroyed all the others.

Title Against the Current Spoiler
OK. The ML is like Gu Tingyue in The Story of Minglan. Bad reputation but in reality, he is a nice kid.
Lin Jin Lou is far from being a nice boy! All of Fl's misfortunes are his fault for mistreating his concubines and using them as objects then throwing them away by constantly putting them in competition, most of them started to commit crimes to keep his attention (apart from his fickle wife who was his karma). Because of him, Fl was a victim of all the women he dated at times she even almost lost her life because of jealousy. He is a man who had no respect for women and considered them as replaceable tools for pleasure from the moment he saw a younger and prettier girl. He didn't like Fl he was obsessed with her and his interest grew because she resisted him and she was considered a great beauty. He supposedly fell in love with her because she never schemed to gain his attention and because she was mentally mature, educated and caring. But he is the reason why many of his concubines became vicious, most of his concubines were descendants of servants who never received proper education who yearned for love and to be the only woman for him he played with them for a time then abandoned them making them jealous and desperate before throwing them away with financial compensation, a woman who had already been to another no longer had much value no wonder some became monsters. Lin jin lou was a monster capable of rape and abuse to obtain a woman as a human he was a total waste but he was a practical civil servant his only quality. Even for his time he was considered a piece of trash who was obsessed with beauty and intimate pleasures who didn't know how to manage his harem, some men in the novel were much better than him. besides, the writing clearly wasn't meant to make us appreciate his character because he didn't have a redemption arc, all the harm he created he never tried to fix. we followed Fl's path to understand her resilience and she had a happy ending to justify her journey of suffering, otherwise it was clearly a stockholm syndrome. the violence will not be shown but his misogynistic behavior and his conqueror syndrome will be present, and his behavior towards women will also be present the essence of his arrogant misogynistic and despotic character will also be there. I just hope that his character and his story will be completely changed so that Liu Xue Yi can finally have a successful drama because the romance side of this novel is really very inconsistent if 20% of the story is respected this drama will end up having an inconsistent narrative that will lead Liu Xue Yi to another average drama while the cast and production are incredible. besides he has nothing to do with Gu Tingyue.

The drama has not released yet.Making a comment so early kinda obnoxious. The screenwriter has some work in her…
the typical repartee (In general, if something we don't like, we skip it) did I say that I in particular don't like the novel or won't like the adaptation. If you read and understood my comment you certainly understand you wouldn't even have written that. Red flag or black flag like Xie wei or even others appreciated by the public often have family circumstances or personal vendettas to carry out which soften the viewers, we can also see that they are often possessive jealous but totally under the romantic influence towards the women they love and that they often hide their righteousness under many masks. I too, having a long experience of analysis in the Asian drama world through different sites, can affirm that for a red flag or black flag to be appreciated it is necessary to bring together several circumstances and factors to humanize it and justify the evolution of its character into a black flag. People like Lin Jin Lou who are extremely misogynistic, belittle, use women as disposable objects, are ultra narcissistic and physically violent towards women and think that his status allows him to trample others do not meet the conditions to arouse pity, soften or even captivity in viewers. People like the type of obsessive black flag who can be bad and hurt everyone except his wife, yet Xing Lan is the biggest victim of Lin Jin Lou's lust, meanness and violence. Many like bad boys and an intense plot with complex characters and strong and dark Ml in historical dramas, this does not mean that everything can be considered acceptable. Besides, it is you who said to be annoyed, it has nothing to do with me who only shared my feelings about this drama.

Listen, be annoyed, it doesn't change anything for me. How many successful directors and screenwriters have failed to make this kind of story enjoyable to watch. In the world of Cdrama, I've watched a lot of novels adapted or dramas inspired by novels with this type of plot that have miserably failed to keep the audience engaged or even managed to make the audience tolerate the actions and behavior of the Ml. Even a good production and a good cast can't make a story with too many big gaps really interesting. This drama will attract a certain audience thanks to the notoriety of the actors and that of the members of the production, which will not make it a commercial failure, but there is a good chance that this drama will be the kind that fails to keep its audience until the end, it will never be a "masterpiece". That's my opinion, if the opposite happens, it's good. This drama has not yet been released, but since this project was announced as an adaptation, not just an inspiration, I can give my opinion by taking into consideration the elements of the novel to share my thoughts because a large part of the story will try to follow the original plot of the novel.

I have the feeling that even if the directors only follow 10% of the story and Ml only has 2% of the personality that is described in the novel, this drama will not be appreciated by the public. There are black flags that we love but others that we deeply hate and Lin Jin Lou is part of the second category. Many will certainly have the second male character syndrome.

When I think that Su E Huang really had the destiny of an empress and that she was Wei Shao's empress, I am still amazed, especially since she had killed Wei Shao's grandmother in the novel. The bride exchange really changed the destiny of many people.

Sadly, the drama dumb down BZ to the point of all brawn without brain..😒 The novel BZ is amazing, capable both…
So true, he was more competent than Wei Shao, he was a born and intelligent general with exceptional fighting skills. He genuinely cared about his people and was a devoted and gentle husband. A man without education or advisors managed to raise an army twice and succeeded in overthrowing WS. Bi Zhi had more qualities than WS the director preferred to focus on the main couple and attributed Bi Zhi's qualities to WS. I have a hard time accepting this total massacre of General Bi Zhi who has become nothing more than a simple brainless idiot. I liked the drama but the ending of Bi Zhi and Da Qioa in the drama is just a disappointment.

Often I see a drama with FL posing as a man, wearing mens clothes, and ML still falls for her, inspite of initially…
In the novel he didn't fall in love with her thinking she was a man. In fact he was suspicious of her abilities and suspected her of being a spy, he investigated her and discovered she was a woman and their relationship gradually began to evolve from trust to love despite the suspicions. This is the only novel of this type I've read where Ml only became interested in her after knowing her true gender.

same feelings, they should have kept the serious side of the novel Wei Shao was a conqueror who gradually softened…
I'm quite surprised to learn that this drama is a big production because I recently rewatched Love Like the Galaxy, yet the visual journey, the sets, the extras, and the special effects seem really better. I know this drama had to wait because the actress was the victim of a controversy, but I feel like this drama is really under-budgeted. Besides, the actress's other drama, which was also postponed, was visually very beautiful. I also agree with you, the ending seems rushed and the plot lacks depth. The love journey was a good time, even if it lacked intrigue, but it's still a very good drama.

Honestly, I forged a love-hate relationship with this drama. Like I said in my review, when you have watch different…
same feelings, they should have kept the serious side of the novel Wei Shao was a conqueror who gradually softened thanks to Qiao Man. War and hatred had made him a ruthless warrior with little concern for the people he was a man addicted to war. even his love for Manman did not easily divert him from his hatred against the Qiao but she gradually awakened emotions in him, Manman gradually awakened in him benevolence, guilt, a sense of duty, love and forgiveness. this drama if it had been more serious by combining love political tensions and stakes plus a bigger budget like that of (the legend of Zang hai) it would have been incredible.

For a historical drama, it was a light journey in terms of love and comedy, which I appreciated. But in terms of the story, there are quite a few gaps. The political side was too heavily neglected. The intensity of the resentment between the Wei and Qiao was easily swept under the rug, which slowed down the pace of the story. I would have liked to find at least 20% of Wei Shao from the novel. Even his love for Manman did not easily obscure his perception of the Qiao. He did not want to easily give Boya to Bi Zhi. He sent his men repeatedly to retrieve Boya for political reasons and also to prevent someone connected to the Qiao from gaining power. Qiao Man's role in the drama is active and enterprising, whereas in the novel, the weight of Wei Shao's resentment for the Qiao clearly hinders his scope for maneuver. she was rather a voice of reason for her husband she awakened the emotions of Wei Shao who grew up in hatred and war, he was ruthless and did not care at all about the common people he was simply a conqueror but Manman gradually awakened in him benevolence, guilt, the sense of duty, love and forgiveness it was a Mature novel some funny moments but not too much the novel is not perfect and it is difficult to read because it is very representative of the traditions and behaviors of the individuals of the time but it was a good read. This drama was good with some strong moments but it lacked seriousness and stakes for me it's a 9/10 because the actors were all simply amazing they gave us the best.

And I think bi zhi is much more formidable
Bi Zhi was exceptional in the novel even Wei can't compare to him, he was a good man an excellent general he sincerely cared for his people and he was an exceptional lover and husband. Without education or advisor he became a genius general intelligent and capable of overthrowing Wei Shao, his fighting skills were above those of Wei Shao. He was the true prisoner of beauty because despite the death of Da Qiao he remained devoted to her, and in the second timeline after having Da Qioa by his side he was ready to give up power for her, he was so sweet to her. Da Qioa and Bi Zhi were a beautiful and harmonious couple, they were such honest people and grateful to Manman the drama did not succeed in honoring these two. It was a good drama all the same

It's the opposite for me. I like the FL character in this novel . She is emotionally stable, honest, not clingy…
Her character was far from being emotionally stable, she learned to remain calm and repress her emotions without letting them overwhelm her precisely so as not to be overwhelmed by sadness, grief and resentment. We see that despite her frank manners she has difficulty conveying her emotions to Ml he felt lost in the face of her behavior, she became pragmatic but at certain moments we could feel that she would have liked to be a simple young girl who could express her frustration, grief and emotions without always having to be too reasonable. Her character because of her pragmatic side lost her warmth for me because of her too flat side, she had to learn to harden herself and act like the adult in her family because of her father's problems. She even almost took a wrong turn in life smoking and not concentrating on her studies she explained at one point. She wanted to hold him back and tell him that she didn't want him to leave, but she kept her feelings to herself, pretending she wanted to take advantage of the moment to hide the distress she couldn't express. At times, her teasing was too exaggerated, playing with Ml's emotions; most of the time, she was stoic and didn't let her emotions overflow to externalize her emotions. Some of her actions were really not very well explained or the reason was really not credible enough. This is what she likes about ML, he is very lively and has the ability to express his emotions without channeling them too much, while she has lost her ability to let go of her emotions. Expressing her feelings, her emotions and her love is not really being a clingy person, the author was not really able to make her let go and let her live without being too pragmatic.
