Why are they starting to divide shows into two seasons?
They aren't starting to divide series into seasons. With My Dearest the Asian Games 2023 (or the Games as the locals call it) starts on 23rd September 2023 and it concludes on 8th October 2023. If you don't understand why this would provide the MBC/the drama into airing 2 parts then I suggest you do an internet search for citizens, games, intense love of, etc
It amazes me how everyone outside ROK thinks they have a say so in when and how dramas should/need to be aired. MBC is localized broadcasting. In other words it doesn't follow the likes of streaming services. MBC (Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation) is a BROADCASTING COMPANY. It caters to the South Korean public ONLY. Any drama or movie streaming outside of ROK has been licensed to stream outside ROK by MBC. BUT if it's an ONGOING/CURRENTLY AIRING drama then the licensed platform will NOT have the episodes until they have aired in ROK. Enough of this "I WANT ALL OF THE EPISODES NOW" mess.
It also amazes me how everyone outside ROK doesn't know the citizens of ROK have a huge following for games. Have you not seen countless drama depictions of the nation basically shutting down when soccer/football, etc is shown? THIS is why MBC has a My Dearest break after Episode 11. The Asian Games 2023 (or the Games as the locals call it) starts on 23rd September 2023 and it concludes on 8th October 2023. It would be detrimental to ratings to continue airing regular programming during the Games.
It also amazes me how rumors and speculation (which are GOSSIP) go rampant on MDL and other sites where one can comment, without people checking facts. MBC is doing this because of Netflix? Ludicrous rumor. MBC starting to copy other countries' seasons? Ludicrous rumor. Saying SEASONS instead of Parts also suggest these are coming from Westeners where every show has had multiple seasons which have run the shows into the ground. Many of us started watching Korean dramas because they are self contained within one series. Wanting localized broadcasting to emulate Western failures, has been suggested by Westeners? Ludicrous. But to be honest, where the West goes, failure follows. Prove me wrong. Netflix has already proven this for South Korea, even if it has been lucrative.
It also amazes me just how arrogant those from Western countries think they can influence other countries. Doesn't this strongly suggest Westerners think other countries are "less than", " not as smart as", or outright "they're ignorant and we are not" attitude? So let's teach the foreigners how it should be done? Ludicrous.
I've enjoyed kisskh until more and more entitled Westeners started with the inuendos, running rumors full fledge ahead as if they were the truth, and completely ignoring ROK, Republic of Korea/South Korea (for those too lazy to look it up) history, culture, etc.
If this comment offends you, then it's probably because you have displayed this behavior.
Personally, I think the timing of airing MD is perfect. IF time was needed for the writer, or production, for whatever reason, then they chose the perfect time to air Episodes 1-11 with the break at the second half.
Is MBC going with Netflix's trend now... Netflix might make us wait but on release date, they dropped the entire…
MBC will air the remaining Part 2 Episodes 11-20 in October after the Asian Games 2023 have concluded. Since ROK is a huge watcher of games, which would be better, to have the remaining episodes (11-20) continue to air and the ratings plummet, or to halt the production until everyone's attention will be on regular broadcasting again? Has nothing to do with Netflix stance.
Parts. Not seasons. Asian Games 2023 interrupts the 20 EPISODE drama. Part 1 is finished. Episode 11 will start sometime in October. See the righthand side of the profile above where it says Airs: Oct, 2023, and doesn't have a set day yet.
yeah splitting the drama in 2 ... i wanna seriously kill whoever came up with doing what netflix has been doing…
From my understanding, the episodes are being halted due to the Asian Games 2023. ROK are huge fans of any competition they are apart of, so if My Dearest continues with episodes during the televised games then the ratings will plummet.
We tend to forget dramas are local to South Korea first, and are on THEIR time schedule.
Unfortunately, Hulu/Disney+ still has not realized the full potential of K-dramas yet. Their selections are few…
Thank you for your comprehensive answer. I was wondering why I haven't seen much in the way of comments regarding Hulu on MDL, and so many dramas and movies don't have Hulu listed under Where To Watch. I've been reading Korean subs for far too many years to confuse my mind with English dubs. I tried one time on 1 episode of a drama and it was so jarring to my ears I couldn'tget my head wrapped around it. Thank you again.
I don't use Hulu, yet seeing the 9 rating for this with only 6 episodes left makes me want to drop Netflix and pick up Hulu. I'm soooo bored with the other site. Are there a lot of Korean dramas on H? I don't watch anything coming from the West, except rarely UK, France, Finland, Sweden...

Of course she couldn't back her words with actual lines.
