BLs, for the most part, seem to think there are only tops and bottoms, and ignore the versatile option.
Oh god...I hated that show...like with a loathing hotter than the surface of the fiery sun. As far as I'm concerned, those two never, ever had sex of any kind let alone f**king. lol ugh. I love Ohm the actor but he was the only with charisma; Nanno or whatever his name is like a limp, soggy noodle...lukewarm too. Seriously, for me, zero chemistry, zero sexual energy between them, zero believability. My theory is that its very blandness is the key to its success; it apppeals to all the 14 year-old fan girls who like bunnies and teddy bears and two boys who kiss but that's as far as it goes...any actual pounding would scare them away.
Together With Me had the right vibe but still two defined top/bottoms/ Same with Tharntype. Maybe KinnPorsche, if it can get past its own laughability, will break the top/bot mold.
BLs, for the most part, seem to think there are only tops and bottoms, and ignore the versatile option.
Bingo. And a truly versatile couple could be the basis for great dramatic and comedic material: arguing over who's taking which position on a given evening, who's done it how many times one way before a switch occurs, begging and pleading, giving in and letting us see the power a bottom actually has over a top during a given sexual encounter, which is absolutely true. I hated how they made Toh out to be completely inept at anything other than laying back and letting Nuea do all the work with very little feedback. What a boring lover.
I might have a new crush sorry billy but opp is too good-looking
Agreed. That smile is killer. But it's also true that they have a similar look. They'd be great cast as blood brothers in an awesome, edgy, pervy BL in which said brothers fall in love. :D
Nuea wasn't "jealous". I know he said this but, he was absolutely upset, that Toh wasn't clear about their relationship.…
What it comes down to me bottom line is that I still don't buy that Nuea's character would be attracted to, let alone fall in love with Toh's character. Nothing in common, acts like a nerdy Carol Channing, is insecure, is obsessive and mysterious about his stalking behavior and collecting mementos (which I still don't think is bizarre enough to rate the attention it gets from his sidekicks, who are all bizarre themselves), needs constant reinforcement and reassurance and did I mention they have nothing in common?
The Nuea-liking-Toh thing, the basis of this show, comes off to me as simply a nerdy, feminine, flamboyant queen's fantasy of a world in which things like this actually happen, which they rarely if ever do IRL. I can suspend my disbelief only so far.
Just finished watching this. A refreshingly different angle on school bullying that touched me deeply and will stay on my mind for awhile. It is nice that the idea of what bullying is and who are the bullies is left in the gray area; not nearly as black and white as so many conventional school bullying plots present the problem. That is a very good thing. Abe Hiroshi is wonderfully enigmatic in the role of the substitute teacher who makes waves after everyone is just getting back to pretending the water is smooth. Well done.
I remember that you detest the trip-fall-catch trope, but I enjoyed this one. First, it was blatant and obviously…
Yes, trip/fal/catch is really, really stupid at this point, especially in a show of the quality this one seems to be. It may have been fine back in the early days of BL but thankfully we've come a long way since then and seeing as 3,000 BLS have been made with T/F/C it's hard to believe directors are still including it.
It is so funny we debate shit like this here at MDL and any normal, non-BL person who has no idea what the hell BL is or why we obsess over it would read this and think we're crazy. lol
Well, hell, I am adding this to my list but not dont feel like getting wrecked right now
I cry at movies pretty easily. I teared up a few times during this but never out-right lost it, even though I think it is a stunning, remarkable film. To me it was as much spiritual journey as gay love story and the soft trance it put me in kind of had a calming effect, I think. I was saddened but not sobbing. And I just put this movie at #6 on my list of fave gay-themed movies.
An absolute disaster. I mean, EPIC. I am amazed that such alienating story lines made it out of the writing room and onto our screens. They trashed a very popular BL couple.
Oh god...an accident. I like these guys a LOT already. And I agree with you that they very much feel like regular…
Oh yes, that is correct. I remember that now. Honestly, I don't know what writers, directors and producers are thinking when such things are done. I loved the first season of We Best Love and then they butchered the second season with all kinds of implausible plot changes and resets. Same thing with Love By Chance's second season.
I love this show. I'm watching it slowly over time, when I'm in the mood. Once in a while I get a little bored with it but then I come back to where I stopped, hit play and I'm all the way back in prison. I wouldn't know where to start with all the things that impress me. I laugh, I tear up, I get angry, scared and sad with the inmates. The relationships in that cell are so beautifully plotted. Just finished 14, so just two more to go. I will be sad to say goodbye to these guys but I'll be back someday to watch it all a second time and probably catch all kinds of good stuff that went over my head the first time. Bravo to the producers, director, actors, writers and crew of this remarkable series. Second season please.
Agree - I'm all for outgoing and playful characters, but when they are the type to be invasive is when I get a…
Keep going and keep your head up, my friend. It makes perfect sense what you say about the discomfort with uninitiated intimacy. I think I know what you're talking about in my experience. A lot of the affection I refer to above was fueled by alcohol when me and my "buddies" would drop our guard, but not our pants unfortunately, and people would express themselves a lot more freely than they did normally.

I understand that take on his body language and physical space-invasions, BUT I think a combination of factors are going on here: 1. he is extremely extroverted, 2. he adores Li Gong (whether ONLY as his beloved friend at this point I'm not sure, 3. Li Gong is uncomfortable because he is well-aware of his love for Ze Shou, not because he doesn't like the touching, but because it hits so close to home and reminds him of what he thinks he can never have, 4. Ze Shou suspects or already KNOWS that to be the case and is sort of testing/feeling out Li Gong's reactions to see what will happen. He has already kissed LG twice on the mouth and not just little pecks, he embraces him and hangs on him at every opportunity, and 5. ZS is both teasing LG AND letting him know it's ok that he loves him; maybe he loves LG back.
These are just wild speculations after two eps, but those are the feels I get.
On edit: I wanted to add that I can think of several of my close friends from high school through college who acted with me somewhat as ZS does to LG. I was tightly closeted then and terrified of being found out so I never explored what might happen. I was maybe more afraid of something happening than they were. I think at least a few of them were letting me know they were interested in experimenting and also that they felt great affection for me, whether as good friend or maybe more. It saddens me that I will never know.
I was very good during those years at making the guys I was crushing on or in love with into my best friends. I attended a large university and I swear that my two best friends and frat brothers were the best-looking guys on campus. I first saw them together during fraternity rush and my mouth actually dropped open; I probably looked like I'd had a stroke. lol SO handsome, both of them and they were talking to each other. I went thru rush and when I chose a frat and went to the first party there they both were, a blond and a brunette! And in no time they were my best friends for real. And they were both actually very nice guys, it wasn't just about their beauty only. But I definitely was in love with the tall blond and he was a sweetheart. Sorry, I'm reminiscing and rambling. :D
Shi Cheng Hao is indeed beautiful, and I like his shy, reserved character although J100 thinks he is dull. The…
haha, that's funny about your grandmother and her sister. Maybe she also didn't want them to think the family was starving her. :) Yes, the Renaissance woman was Zaftig, one of my favorite German words. I have to admit I am drawn to women AND men who are slim and firm but not skinny. I think emaciated models are scary-looking and that still seems to be a thing on runways. I am an old Swiftie and I love the way Taylor has filled out to probably a size 8 from about a 0, though when she in that phase she did the Victoria's Secret show/concert and looked stunning, as though she were one of the models herself. I also love the way she has deliberately become a very visible and loud advocate for LGBTQ people. I love when people grow and change. I don't think she was ever a bigot, I think she just hadn't given it much thought until that hateful dude was running for office in Tennessee, which was still her legal residence at that time.

Which it is why it would be AWESOME beyond words for the shorter one to top in a BL and blowup the comment boards. lol As when Korn slammed it to the bitchy/horrible boss behind Knock's back in Together With Me; that was outstanding! Gave me that feeling of fascination/excitement AND anger/horrified that I enjoy feeling. I know that sounds twisted but I think a lot of drama lovers know what I mean.
I'm interested to see where things go in the second season of "Hello Stranger." In the movie the bigger athletic guy, in reference to sleeping in the "top" or "bottom" bunk when the little guy said he wanted the "top," which the big guy also wanted,, he replied along the lines of "well, I guess I could try that out..." lol I'm hoping he'll try that out in the second season and a point will be made of it.
To me, a plot line in which the traditional top goes out of his way to bottom for his beloved simply because it will give the person he loves so much pleasure and he wants to provide that for him, would be epic. There is some (Filipino?) gay film in which this basic thing takes place and it was very hot and very touching all at the same time.
Same old boring Tawain drama, that can not compare to the first history as they trying , the falling kiss becomes…
The falling kiss, which one of my favorite commenters here calls "trip-fall-catch" IS/WAS a big joke, deliberately inserted as a trope of a trope. BUT here one guy grabbed the other, held on and gave him a full-on lip-sucking kiss instead of the usual bumbling, jumping apart from each other. Acting is great to me, all-round. You're comparing one hour of a six hour show to a complete and much longer show, but I guess do what you want.

I'm still digesting this movie but while I do that I'll go ahead and give it a 9.5/10 rating.
