So they actually kept the puppet master out of all but the last two episodes. With an end credit scene that either sets up a special or potentially more seasons in the future.
Considering the cast/producer, I'm not really sure a season two will ever actually be in the cards. But I would love to see them married and working together again...with our other dynamic duo offering support. Hell maybe they can track down the sweet prince and drag his ass back to the palace to protect his little brother from the crown prince, cause we all know that little dude is next on the chopping block.

I'm not sure on the Crown Prince's age, so I'm not sure if he also was behind Cui killing Prince Duan's household. Or if he was just spring boarding off of the aftermath. So the TLDR of the whole show...the Emperor is a whore with pot meet kettle level irony and his crown prince doesn't fall far from the family tree.

Minister Cui is finally convicted and given death....Li Pei Yi is allowed to dole out his sentence on the lantern festival aka Li Pei Yi's birthday
She confronts the Emperor about how she can't do her job in the Palace because the rules and law never apply...pissing him off, again, and getting her "kicked out".
Xiao Huai Jin resigns from his position the same day and eagerly reports to the Emperor for one finally time before practically bouncing off to leave with Li Pei Yi, which the Emperor is aware of and said along the lines of "Now off you go with Li Pei Yi". They have a little snowball fight in a palace courtyard and run out of the palace hand in hand while one of the older eunuchs reprimands them for decorum.
They celebrate the rest of the festival overlooking the capital.
We get to check in on all the survivors/loved ones of victims of the cases throughout the series.
It ends bitter sweet for Consort Shu as she looks out at the capital from the tower longingly as the Emperor comes up from behind to greet her. She smiles at him and together they look out on the palace/capital lit by the festival lights.

Cut to day time...Xiao Huai Jin and Li Pei Yi, in celebratory red(potentially wedding attire, at least he looks like he's dress for a wedding), ride out of the capital gates on horse back racing one another towards the fields and mountains laughing. (I know Bai Lu was freaking the eff out and Xing Yue was probably genuinely laughing at her in the bts)

BONUS SCENE AT END: The Crown Prince gives orders to kill Chen Lou, Consort Shu(who will be praying until spring), and Li Pei Yi and Xiao Huai Jin for knowing too much.
I swear to god if they don't do a season two in a few years I'm going to be so upset.

It's really low budget, like I'm not even sure they could furnish more than like 2 rooms and maybe 3 outfits per lead...but minimal effort(watching wise) 24 episode drama. I think it's on Prime, but if you don't have that just go to the 🏴‍☠️🦜site and watch it at 2x speed.

Generation to Generation starts today I believe. im at work so I can't see your drama list to narrow down what you have and havent seen yet.

The drama Your Sensibility My Destiny is a soul swap drama...sort of. His character can't feel things but when he touches the FL he can taste and feel for the first time. which makes for pretty funny situations. I think he was 17 or 18 when he made it.

Depends on what you consider "dark". Most of the cases revolve around the injustices done to women in and out of the palace because those in power exploit them and then discard them.
So royal family members, palace maids, concubines, common women etc. There are very dark themes within each case, but with the censorship it's not as in your face. But there are a LOT of Jeffery Epstein level crimes covered in this story. Each case is about 3 episodes in length with an over arcing story of the FL's family massacre and her quest to find the truth.
I don't think you ever get truly close enough to the characters in the cases to feel their losses deeply. So if you can handle Law & Order: SUV this show should be fine for you. Also please be aware that suicide plays a HUGE role in this show I lost count at suicide 13, so just take care of yourself and know your limits.

I'm happy for those that didn't read the novel and loved it. But when you literally get called out for adding more sexual assault to a story about an SA survivor I'm not going to ignore how that made me feel.

I'm not going to ignore that in this adaptation they had Sang Yan invite an unknown(to YiFan) MAN to TAKE A SHOWER and walk around HALF DRESSED in HER apartment.

I'm not going to ignore the fact that a disagreement about when to disclose traumatic information to a romantic partner went from a less than 48 hours physical separation with constant communication to SIX MONTH GHOSTING and investigation to track her down.

I'm not going to ignore the fact they made her assaulter into a businessman who then had access as security to her building. When all he was was in the novel was the deadbeat brother to her aunt, who drove drunk and then stalked her after she covered his drunk driving accident. The whole point of him being a bum was to show that even when a man is a bum a woman/girl is completely powerless if she isn't believed.

So yeah, i'm going to stay upset that a male director came in and rewrote all the male characters at the expense of the female characters intelligence and agency.

Also no one jumps back into point shoes after an injury with they're ankle to teach primary school children basic ballet. Especially a broke person on the run.

I had to pause to go find a tissue box. it was just a constant stream of tears.

yes I know it's already filmed. it also was edited & submitted to the censorship board, then re-edited & resubmitted & the approved...I know how things work i just am hoping for better than what we've gotten.

So we all agree that Mr. Bei is the one in the cell, right? Cause Ryan put a little extra zest in his performance...or am I reading too much into it?

yes the last five episodes should be out within the next 24 hours so even if you start now you could theoretically catch up in time to not be spoiled. or take your time and be able to discuss the ending with everyone who's been watching daily.

EIGHT EPIOSDES! 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭I Swear it better have been a subplot with side characters and spicier scenes that ended up on the cutting room floor. I really hope directors are keeping copies of their work & fully editing the show how they originally intended, so that if the day ever comes that the restrictions are lifted we get to see their art the way they intended. 🙏🏻🙌

The prince doesn't know Xiao was the one who helped Yong'er or that Xiao bargained for Yong'er's freedom(not that he really needed to)...aka Xiao is in the perfect position to help Wanyin & San...when he learns it was one of the Prince's people who killed her...well I dont know if he's going to stick to his oath to do no harm.

I dont know what happens in the novel at the end, but im hoping that we can get a good ending in the real world. not just a run to each other & kiss, not just her hearing his voice, not just staring at each out across a distance.
I want closure, darn it!

I hope it's something like him waking back up in 9th grade 17 years ago & waiting for her again. (tragic and dramatic, but I read the classics and it's all about the longing and the patience of the leads. She arrives back on the subway on her birthday & begins her search. or...he's already there waiting for her to recognize him. I would love 2 episodes in the real world, or even just one episode....please dont just make it the last 5 minutes of the last episode...please censorship board/script writers/editors please please. I need a happily ever after in the real world.
also if you got all the references to the other transmigration shows...you know you also want an episode or 2 of them in the real world too.
