He knows she doesn't really like Fenglong, so he does it again and keeps her near Jing, because he knows that at least she likes Jing and can be happy with him, he tells her about the rest on purpose to keep her protecting her "day dream". He also wipes the images as a final step to keep that day dream "clean from him". He's the only one who has an image kept by her, he's like that "secret of her heart". It's not about courage, it's about him giving her total freedom, even the freedom to chose someone else she likes eventhough he's the one she loves.
I didn't say the opposite, but it's not his reticence that's at fault, he's respecting the boundaries set by XY, since she told him she's afraid to have him in her dreams. He is very averse to lies and that was a sign for him that as long as she's in denial, he won't try any harder for her.

That comparison doesn't give justice to XL, Chenrong was an independent kingdom before being attached to Xiyan, so his army is the last resisting fraction. That same XL would have been in a different place with her if he didn't give his loyalty to the man who saved him. He's not a terrorist nor a serial killer, even the killing he does is for funds to his army, not even for himself.
So this is why I said there's not much justice in the world, all this is the result of chance and "karma/action" from the past, it's not his fault. Also, if he was bad he wouldn't have been forcing himself to always hide his help behind some "deal" , especially that she told him right to his face that's afraid of him getting into her dreams. So far, he's the only one who's here for her only for the sake of her to be happy and live well, he's not asking to be with her at any cost (Jing), nor giving up on her and sabotaging others then push her into some new alliance (to Fenglong), or get a new deal from someone (Cuan).
Dude he used her to make a deal with jing. Then he had the nerve to say, "Repaying me on her behalf? Have you…
Because what he did for her out of love can NEVER BE REPAID, that's why he was sarcastic but he needed to bite that bullet and save his army. XL is proficient in hiding his feelings towards her, so he looks like a perfect demon, a complete opportunistic, you can go back to that scene and see how he clutches the paper/skin having details for the shipping, if he were purely calculating, he wouldn't have such anger in his hand and sorrow over his face.
I have nothing against Deng Wei nor the character, I just see that love between XL and XY is the most powerful but hey, there's not much justice in the world... it's not always the most genuine feelings that get victory.
I saw from an interview, Zhang Wan Yi mentions that the ending of the drama is very different from the novel...
the only way I see is him going back there in coma and her detoxing him, otherwise, it won't be possible... and we also have that crazy Saintess on their butt, the next episodes are going to be wild! No more cool mysteries to solve, just pure drama awaiting for us!

XL didn't leave me any more tears lol but I was like "good, another heart breaking scene"... I really hope he gets detoxed but in addition to his refusal (the lady has basically to sacrifice herself), the appearance of that "old friend" makes me believe that his ending is nearing especially that he also left his technique to Fang... but shout out to "A'Fei", he really has his back and he's a great villain, he wants to win fair and square, not by tricking his ennemis, quite commendable!

Well, I'm so emotionally shaken that I decided to look for his other dramas later, I just took a look on his profile page because his acting is soo good here, not overdone for halpf a second, that my focus is 100% on XL. I'm also following another series, Mysterious Lotus Casebook and Cheng Yi is doing so great there, but the emotional impact of Lost you forever makes me basically "low effort" at work, I usually get my "high" when I read books on spirituality or listen to podcast that make me question some stuff in life, but never once in my life I'd have thought that I'll have heavy stuff coming from a series, and a fantasy (I avoid realistic dramas because I have a lot of stuff going on since forever and I see in fantasies an escape, better than consuming illicit stuff lol, at least I won't hurt the last thing right in my life, health) above all.

I have no idea, i verified my account only to help the ratings for this series, that's how extremely impressed by this character lol... if someone has info, I'll sign the petition for sure!
Yes! XL is heartbreaking, every scene with FFB and XY has been emotionally engaging. I have been hopeful about…
Season two is basically the whole series divided into two section due to the new chinese regulations limiting the number of episodes... so we'll see what's gonna happen next year... Journey of Chongzi killed me with that bad story and I suffered only because I was hoping that they might "correct the trajectory", instead they made my experience enjoying Xu Zhengxi extremely painful to watch (he's usually excellent and he saved a bit with his acting but that wasn't nearly enough)... this series will kill me of pain for XL!
I find Jing a tad suffocating. I get that he doesn't want to marry his fiancee, but before trying to pursue Xiao…
He's the kindest... not out of fear of "losing" her, not because he wanted her to be with him (he could have played his cards and get her because she already likes him, just apprehensive), not because he's weak (so strong that he can hide that love bug from her)... when you have all this power, strength, even love and still, you decide to give all that freedom, you're freaking enlightened, he's more godly that all deities out there combined.

I just can't believe it, this is not "my type", to swoon over a character, I loved many characters that made me a big fan of different actors and actresses, but THIS ONE is soo different, it hits my spiritual and emotional core! You're not the only one, trust me. This XL is so amazing that even my traumatized inner child growing up in a very abusive household could see right through that "violence", which is absolutely not, it was just him acting like a military AND making sure that he thinks she's a man (he respected her will even before he fell in love with her, that's how respectful he truly is, it's a genuine trait in him).
