king the land is described as cliche romcom with classic tropes just ‘MODERNIZED’. like if you expect crazy…
I am a heavy romcom watcher and I love having tropes and cliches in my drama. Even then I couldn't enjoy the drama much, mostly because the scenes felt disjoint and didn't have a smooth flow in storytelling. Let's see if the the editing improves in the later episodes.
not watching for leads chemistry watching for leads acting. watching for scenery, costumes, attention to detail.…
Your completed list is interesting, some have exact same rating and some have opposite rating to mine. Overall we happen to enjoy similar dramas so I am going to trust your recommendation for now.

Thanks, I will give it a try, hope the negatives that you mentioned would be overtaken by the positives. I absolutely hate miscommunication/drama for the sake of drama/annoying characters.
Btw I dropped love is sweet because I found the plot too silly and then watched all the good bits on yt 😅
Please be honest, are you watching it for the plot or for the leads' chemistry? How much of the drama is about demon-cultivator? Is that plot interesting or draggy? Fft include more details if you feel necessary. TIA.
Hi, thanks for your thoughtful analysis and for reading my review and taking time to comment on it. I do agree…
You judged this drama from the general genre-based drama, so I get your frustrations.
Yes, the drama didn't have an obvious direction from the very beginning but that's the beauty of it imo. The stories slowly uncovered and shaped into a meaningful theme step by step in a nice flow.
The central character gets all the focus in a character based drama and the viewers get to see a glimpse of his life, his emotions, success and hardships with relevance to the theme.
His paralegal friend got a detailed storyline because his story is directly related to the theme. Both his and the FL (Lee seo Jin) storylines talked about their marriage, divorce, how they adapt and move on afterwards.
The thing is, they were able to move on mainly because they had a supportive environment, found emotional connectivity among their friends and colleagues.
Loyalty, support and friendship are crucial elements to any stable relationship, be it marriage or simple friendship. The divorce cases happened because those families lacked these attributes. So I found this integration of friendship with the divorce theme very relevant and meaningful.
As for the other characters, everyone was directly/indirectly involved with the theme- the lawyers handle divorce cases, ju wah's case happened indirectly because of jo Jung shik, FL's hellish marriage happened because her friend/colleague/pd introduced him to her, so she is also indirectly involved in instigating the entire thing. The rameyon lady isn't related to divorce, but she is an important character for the next stage after divorce- a new start. So the characters are very connected, has the necessary depth and very well written imo.
P. S. I only found that you replied because I had closed the app on this page. Maybe try replying directly to the parent comment for better reachability.
>why is she claiming that she is the rightful wife of Jeung Geuk?
That woman is delusional. She is insecure and thinks she is perfect and smart and rightfully deserves to be a queen. Funnily, everyone around her, even the lawyer, thinks and even says she isn't so directly on her face lol.
From my understanding, since she had a long term familiarity with jeung geuk (since school days), she thinks she deserves to be with him.
Geung guek seems like the apple from the same tree as his father. Cheating runs in the family.
My guess is ju wah, being a dignified lady, filed for divorce when she learned of his affair esp since cheaters can't ask divorce in South Korea.
Then the case about custody came and she lost that because of her past psychological issues.
Her in-laws loved her the most, but once she asks for divorce, she means nothing to them. They only cared about the heir so they made sure she lose the custody and the dirty play of jyj and the greedy lawyer helped them win so.
Imo the drama would have been slightly dragging if they tried to include such details esp since the reasonings aren't that crucial.
You know dramas are not limited to genre types (Melo, romcom, law, sol, etc), some focus on characters and themes. And themes necessarily doesn't only mean revenge, guilt and the like.
The drama is character-driven, tells us the story of shin sung Han and and others who get meaningfully involved in his personal and work life.
The law aspect of this drama also doesn't follow the genre structure, it is also character focused. It explores the root causes of divorce though detailed backstory of the characters and tries to solve them quite realistically without involving tropes and dramatic courtroom scenes.
Every character, directly or indirectly, is connected to a theme. A social theme, divorce.
The drama tried to pass a subtle message on the causes and effects of divorce through the lighthearted fun vibe. How the lack of emotional connectivity leads to dysfunctional families and then to divorce and how children of such families suffer the most.
Yes, this drama is very different from the usual plot based genre drama, but the style is not uncommon and is very well written, directed and acted.
If not for CSW, I would not have finished this. The pacing is horribly slow, a lot of irrelevant scenes dragging…
Each to their own. I found the slow pace very comforting, enjoyed the filler scenes the most, though the legal cases weren't dramatic or suspenseful, I liked that they were analysis-worthy. FL character suit the divorce theme imo, though I agree I didn't quite enjoy her much. Cho seung woo was fantastic as always, but everyone else also did a great job imo.
I enjoyed this show a lot! It was heartwarming, funny and fresh. I was supposed to give this a 9 but I find Lee…
I agree lsj's storyline was the weakest but I also got the intention of the writers. They included her story to show how a person like her adapts and have growth.
I think the stepmom and the lawyer got exactly what they deserved. She was insecure and wanted a perfect family, money and appreciation from her in-laws and now she is left alone in a dead marriage with nothing.
The lawyer got betrayed like he betrayed ju wah. He lost the Cafe, license to practice law and even punished for breaking the lawyer-client confidentiality and perjury. Perjury is a serious offense, he is probably going to lose a huge sum of money or even go to prison.
I feel a little disappointed. I think my expectations were a bit too high. I was really worried after watching…
>Things that didn't
I agree about lsj's storyline being a little out of place. It seemed like the writers included her to show how a person like her (abused, cheater) adapts and have growth. So from the theme of divorce, it kinda fits in. I would have preferred if it ended after Ep2 though.
About jyj, I actually liked that the writer made everyone (except her blind husband) around her could see through her and told so that she isn't as smart as she thinks of herself. Her depthless character perfectly fitted imo, everything started and ended only because she was insecure and didn't have a brain to think.
About the cleaning lady, I think perspective matters. Not everyone thinks/feels the same way and she seemed to prioritize her family more than her long-term resentments. Also she seemed to have a kind heart and her family genuinely seemed to work out for a new beginning. For some people, new memories can burry old ones. I guess it's the same for her.
She lost everything she wanted. She was insecure and wanted a perfect family, wealth and appreciation from her in-laws from the very beginning and now she is left alone in silence in a dead marriage with absolutely nothing if we take the hint from the conversation with FIL.
Maybe they could if they cut short the fillers and repetitive long shots of leads staring into the hotel or changing into suits and likes.
Bold FL: Hyena

I wanted to but haven't watched any xianxia drama yet because of my preference order.
Would you say I should give it a try? You may check out my top drama on my profile.

Both of them got very fitting consequences imo.
