I have seen 12 episodes so far and I like the female lead, Xu Lu's presentation of the character Xing chen... during the course of these episodes, she changes from being a naive, protected daughter who is quite incompetent to someone who steps up to her responsibility and is ready to face harsh reality.. Xu lu's characterization of a pampered daughter beloved of her father is also heart warming to watch. . .
Previously, I had seen one other drama 'song of the moon' where xu lu was the FL.. I am happy to see that in this drama she gets to play a humorous and carefree role....

* xing chen to Bu ting: since I can't hold your hand, we both can just hold the branch... Bu ting keeps walking holding the branch while xing chen gets kidnapped. 😛
* xing chen in an effort to save bu thing's life asks him to leave as he doesn't like her.. He replies " If I dislike you, why would I be willing to be buried with you in water, TWICE? 😍

*bu ying to yao guang: what are you afraid of, follow me both chanting one two, one two.. Suddenly both slip and bu ying falls down a very shallow ditch, yao guang holding on him and both pretending as if she saved him from near death 🤣
* in reference to bu ting becoming a matrilocal husband who would need his wife's support to survive in her family and get along with her father.

Caesar wu seems to be a versatile actor, but honestly I prefer him in a little light hearted roles than very serious ones.. Another series that I have watched with him as a main lead was The Dreamlike seal, it was a short drama but I liked the character he played in that series too.
Riley is cursed to play similar evilish roles..Its became boring...poor guy...
One of the curse of c- entertainment industry is that actors are 'typecast' into similar characters if the audience prefers their role in one such drama... Series creators are happy to go with a tried and tested formula, especially for secondary characters...... Hopefully Riley will get an opportunity to choose a different role in the future.

Usually in such kind of drama the person whom we underestimate the most turns out to be formidable..... She may be a red herring... In this drama we are seeing the females are more capable of treachery and deceit than the males.... She also may harbour resentment since according the four rules of Gong family, she would have been disqualified since birth to be the sword weilder due to her gender.... She seems definitely out of place in this dark drama.
I think there is some hidden mystery in ziyu's mother's past... In episode 3, it was mentioned that his mother too tried to run away from the valley as she had fallen in love with someone else. Ziyu's soft nature is the result of his mother's untimely death.
Also even though all the gong brothers seem to have conflict for succession there seem to be loyal to their father.
I believe that where poisons are concerned even the dead people can turn up alive as it was demonstrated earlier by the incident with the caretaker of gong outpost consuming poison pill but he revived later. This gives me the feeling of agatha christie's novel 'and then there were none' because still can't stomach the sudden death of the father and the heir.
Yun Wei Shan and Shangguan Qian are selected to be the bride of Gong ziyu and Gong Shang Jue respectively, however shangjue wants to confirm their identities and will send pigeons and men to confirm it before marriage, surely this makes weishan nervous.
Four condition for succession 1. One must be an adult 2. One must be a man 3.one must be in residence 4. One must be if gong lineage.
It seems ziyu's lineage is being questioned.
Ziyu finds a clue regarding the death of his father and elder brother, It seems the herb elixir that all gong's drink to make them immune to poison has been changed and the core ingredient is replaced to make it ineffective.
