Finished watching all episodes, This was definitely a little different than the normal C-drama I am used to watching, it started with a bang and slowly build up characters who were larger than life and the story that was gripping and kept everyone guessing....... I really enjoyed watching the drama and I was glad that I was able to binge watch last few episodes as continuation was necessary for the end to make an impact.
One major drawback that I see is the ending... I was mentally prepared for more mayhem and death but the ending seems more of a let down... The build up of the antagonist was larger than life, however we never got the big confrontation with the BIG BAD... Even the open ending about weishan's fate and ziyu was unsatisfactory, it felt as if the writer backed himself up in a corner so left it upto the audience to resolve it as they seem fit....... I expected something more bold and decisive from Edward Guo
I have written a review on this series if anyone is interested in reading it, click the link below.
I am not familiar with FL, Janice Wu's other works but she really shines out in this series... She looks the part of an intelligent lady capable of elaborate planning...
Episode 2 was the first step of FL, Meng Wan's plan.. Hopefully other steps and future planning will be as gripping as the first step... FL is playing a long game, she seems to have plotted and devised her revenge plan like moves in a chess game.
If the series does not deviate and continues along the same path, I will enjoy all episodes.
It seems the girls are there to learn embroidery from Wu Lian who has a powerful backing of Mrs. Ning... He is…
Actually FL is aware that Wu Lian who I believe is the villan is taking advantage of all girls, so she does sleep with him in order to divert his attention from her friend Lin Ru Lan... But it seems it was not the first time FL slept with him as she was aware of his signal words ' practice at night' to mean sleep with him... Lin Ru Lan accidentally saw them from outside the door through a gap but she also realised from FL expressions that she was reluctant to sleep with him... Lin Ru Lan has also slept with Wu Lian but she believed that h e loved her, later she realises that he is using all the girls who have come to learn embroidery.... So from the synopsis it seems Lin Ru Lan will try to expose how evil Wu Lian is but will fail as he has powerful backing of a rich woman..
Hope that helped in answering your query.
PS: Wu Lian is the teacher at the famous embroidery place where all these girls have enrolled to learn embroidery from him, it's like a working hostel so girls are all living on the premises... He is basically expoliting them as they all admire him and are gullible.
Episode 1 I saw the first episode, it seemed quite interesting..... The nurturing friendship between Meng Wan…
It seems the girls are there to learn embroidery from Wu Lian who has a powerful backing of Mrs. Ning... He is exploiting the girls, whenever a new girl comes, she would be given a silk bedsheet but after Wu Lian has slept with that girl her bedsheet would be changed to linen...
A girl commits sucide in the first episode and Lin Ru Lan who is a pure hearted girl finds out she was taking abortion medicine...
Meng Wan takes care of Lin Ru Lan and tries to protect her... Meng Wan is chosen by Wu Lian the next day, she was asked to stay at night in the embroidery room to practice, It was obviously a signal that he would spend the night with her, Meng Wan tolerates his advances because she wants him to leave her friend alone..... Lin Ru Lan witnesses them and pieces things together... Wu Lian had already spent a night with Lin Ru Lan and when she sees her bedsheet is also changed from silk to linen she horrifically understands Wu Lian's modas operandi..
Episode 1 I saw the first episode, it seemed quite interesting..... The nurturing friendship between Meng Wan and Lin Ru Lan was really a pleasure to watch...... Lin Ru Lan is more naive, believing in goodness and dreaming of a bright future ahead, Meng Wan is more prosaic and jaded... .
The red ribbon🎀 worn by Janice Wu( Meng Wan) really brightents up her features and makes her look different from other girls.
My theory about Chuyun Chonglian mentioned in episode 17 in the spoiler tag below
This flower is supposed to have magical property of 'Bringing back someone from dead'... It was told to us that Gong Yuan Zhi managed to cultivate one, but was forced to give it to Gong Hong Yu..
So Gong HongYu had the flower to bring someone back from dead... Two possibilities
1. He consumed it so he is not really dead
2. He gave it to ziyu secretly as he always wanted to protect him the most.
The whole Gong family, especially the back of the hill, are hostages. No wonder the Gong men keep falling for…
I hope so, ziyu aspires to do so, two times he has also promised Young Master Xue Tong Zi that he will show him outside world.... But it seems there is a deep secret that has not yet been revealed to the viewers which would clarify why these people HAVE to stay at the back of hill... Because it seems they are protecting something.
Ok dumb question but can someone explain to me the family relations of the Gong men? Are Gong Ziyu and Shangjue…
Even I am a little confused but my understanding after watching 17 episodes is that they all are paternal cousins from Gong lineage...I think it was mentioned that ziyu's father was married to his mother and after her death took a concubine lady wuji... All Gong male members from that lineage look after four different areas and upon being adult they all participate in the three trials to become the future sword wielder, and the best adult candidate is made the successor or heir.
Finally caught upto Episode 17 Ai Mi, the actress who plays the part of Yun Que is quite a young talent at 15 years... I can see her getting better projects in future.
Finally caught upto Episode 17Ai Mi, the actress who plays the part of Yun Que is quite a young talent at 15 years...…
real heartbreak all round. 💔 * ziyu getting confirmation that WeiShan is a wufeng spy.
*tragic love story of elder yue and yun que.
* visual of Han YaSi carrying a 7 year old yun que from streets contrasting with him carrying her dead body... (The way he was crying made me wonder if he would dare to take revenge because he literally brought her up like a daughter or a young sibling, don't these trainers have any real emotions left?) this scene was more tragic for me compared to unfulfilled love story of elder yue and yun que.
I wonder what is wufeng trying to achieve??? As of now we don't know what missions were originally given to lady wuji, Shangguan Qian and WeiShan????
We should be braced for more heartbreak in future... The best case scenario ending that I can hope for would be everyone alive at the end even if they are not together, but I fear that one or more beloved character will end up dead.
I am not sure if english translated OSTs of this drama from Peachey Blossom's youtube channel were already posted before.... But today I was browsing youtube for the two songs that I liked from this drama and came across all OSTs.
I noticed only in the last few episodes the design on the cloak that xingchen gifted to all her friends was red ⭕ and black X, representing circleman and forkman... When the cloaks were first introduced, the design seemed random and weird to me... At the very end I realized what the design represented 🤦♀️
The drama was a good watch for me, it was uncomplicated and facetious.
The first 12 episodes were more light hearted compared to the latter half however the drama still managed to retain my attention till the last episode..
It also provided some sort of redemption and resolution for all characters.
When I looked up the OST, I found out that the song "Is This The End" was written, composed, and sung by Jin Da…
I like 'Is this the end' song too.. Other noteworthy song from this series was the ending ost from the FL perspective.. Both the songs are catchy having good lyrics.
Finally caught up to episode 19, such a 💔Reflections on ep 18 and 19 in spoiler tag below
Episode 18 This episode is related to dream world.. But I think, it deals with free will of a person... Is it ok to take away the free will of a person just because you want them to like you?
Episode 19 It is such a heart break for bu ting to know that his master has been using him all along as an experimental test subject... He revered his master but his master was only interested in developing life saving medicines.
It also brings up a very good question to debate about.. Should it be allowed to experiment on humans if by sacrificing few lives, multiple lives can be saved in future... It is just a rhetorical question as the logical answer to this goes against the very essence of humanity.... This drama has brought forth many such contemplative situations... Did not expect this from a drama that started as silly and farcical.
Episode 13 had quite a serious note compared to previous episodes... But I liked the father daughter bonding in…
Xing chen's father asks her what kind of martial arts world would she want?
Xing chen's response: "I want a world of equality. In this world women can be chivalrous heroes, and also happily embroider at home. We can duel on stage, and also raise children at home. We can practice sword play in dresses, and also roam in men's clothes. In this world there is only right and wrong, no gender or age barriers. Everyone can pursue their paths. "
Episode 13 had quite a serious note compared to previous episodes...
But I liked the father daughter bonding in this one.. I love it when ancient Chinese series shows a supportive father.. This one has just an adorable father of the FL.... He has trust in his daughter's ability and encourages her radical ideas.
A good dialogue from ep 13 regarding FL radical views for the ancient martial art world... Below in spoiler tag
Yeah even though this show's priority is comedy and gags first, I've also been impressed with the amount of plot…
I agree with you, this drama has used minimal filters.. It is rare to see an actor's actual skin peeking through with such heavy filters used in Chinese series... Good change 👍, every human being has some flaws and it's better to acknowledge and accept them.
One major drawback that I see is the ending... I was mentally prepared for more mayhem and death but the ending seems more of a let down...
