Well, since I started using on hold for completed shows and variety shows I am watching, I simply cannot put them…
Lol i wish i could be that organized. I literally put everything I'm currently watching or want to watch when i have time in watching. Shows i can't find to stream, are interesting but not excited to watch, or are not out out yet go to plan to watch. Anything I can't finish goes on hold but often i push to finish even on fastforward with shows that drag or boring side stories. Rarely watch still airing dramas anymore, mostly because i watch more chinese shows now and i don't have the patience to wait between episodes of uber long series or for subs. But realisticly my list is as chaotic as my life lol.

I usually just put dramas on hold. Over the years I've seen my tastes in shows evolve and sometimes regress depending on my own growth. I'm the same with music and books so no surprise. So unless i absolutely hate a story, production and/or characters beyond redemption i put shows on hold. A lot of times I'll come back and give it another chance when my mood has changed.

Watch ep 8 for your peace of mind. Most of your complaints, if not all are answered. Enjoy 😊
Definitely tonight. Not complaining just rambling. After so many years i don't usually watch airing dramas because i like to analyze and discuss lol. Fans use to be able to have some pretty decent discussions on here in the comments or over in Viki show comments. Now it's hit or miss I suppose. 😀 was just bored and musing so it's no big deal but thanks for the heads up.

As much as I liked the original and the manwha way back then, I feel the plot is kinda old-fashioned nowadays.…
That is why im hoping they push the boundaries with it being a alternate reality drama. They could make a beautiful fusion of modern and traditional. It would serve as a really good platform to address all the major issues but with a modern resolve yet not compromise the original story points. My fear is it will turn into a serous melodrama and/or they will age up the leads. Or they will make it into a watered down school drama with glossed over issues and nonsensical characters. I mean if you could step out of the box this drama has the potential for it.

Love it but there are so many potentially problematic elements with the orginal story and characters. It will be interesting to see how it goes. I'd love to see them push the alternate universe more in this to really incorporate the old historical customs feel with the modern world setting. It could be very beautiful and account for many of the problematic elements i mentioned before.

Amazing drama but how they concluded the story with Ling Xiao and his mom sucked to me. All those years of mental and physical abuse to end with the Mom's selfish suicide attempt making it all about her mental and physical health. I mean damn y'all Ling Xiao was locked in a house with his dying sister as a small child and told literally it was his fault for everything! That is just the smallest tip of the iceberg. It would have been full on more effective to see him have a nervous break down and his mom finally having to deal with her past misdeeds. I mean I'm glad ling Xiao has is adoptive family to lean on but nothing about how he delt with his issues was healthy or particular effective in the long term given his trauma. I know cultural taboo and all but it's probably one of my biggest pet peeves how these dramas make mental illness such a significant part of the story but tie the ends up unrealistically. Otherwise the drama was very good, just a little anticlimactic ending given the story buildups.

Is there a happy ending?
Not a romantic happily ever after ending. More like finding your happy place in a f*cked up situation kind of ending with room to continue the story lol.

Don't watch if:
*You don't like manga/anime overactions and obsurd situations.
*Are offended or feel uncomfortable watching mature situations. (Mostly implied under cover stuff but verbally plot centric)

It's definitely a show about four very emotionally messed up people lol! Like most Japanese dramas from manga/anime it's paced fast in situation so a lot of the story comes accross as ridiculously improbable, but not totally unrealistic. To be fair if the story was presented as more serious and slower paced it probably would be showing in some art house with a viewer choice award attached because the actual concept is disturbing but actually very interesting. Like others have said its not for everyone.

I sort of thought that was why they made her a dancer was for Western audience appeal? At the time it came out there were so many movies and shows, in America especially, that were dance themed. I remember reading the synopsis when it first came out an groaning with soul crushing disappointment lol!

On the other topic mentioned about getting hollywood on board with it I honestly don't think it would have happened, especially HYD as the source material. It took Daniel Dae Kim years of personal investment to get an American version of The Good Doctor on American TV and that show was amazing! It was also very accommodating to Western audiences and American medical drama formatting.

In my opinion HYD might be good right now marketed to Netflix or Amazon as an original series. I would keep its Japanese roots though for intrest and authenticity.

I recommend this drama up until the divorce part then it just gets nonsensically ridiculous. The cute & fluffies we're adorkable after their marriage up until divorce! After divorce it was like they ran out of time, motivation, script? Idk it reminds me of other dramas where production issues caused run over or there was some personal/scheduling conflicts with the leads so they just put together scenes with supporting cast and randomn individually/remotely filmed scenes by the leads. I was recommended so hadn't read any press on this series but that is the vibe im getting. Not a satisfying conclusions for the build up especially for a fluffly Romcom imho.

Thank you! I needed some mindless fluff between back to back shifts of this and next week! Finished brightest star in the sky last week and go go squid before that. I was like man I'm to tired to wade through reviews lmao. :)

lmao do they really think they are the first people to write about someone lying about their identity to a rich…
Lmbo. The description actually sounds to me more similar to half a dozen lakorn plots I've seen over the years. They are really stretching it with this one I think.

I think you have attached a lot of significance to the fated lover/ destiny thing, it’s not the main core of…
Still disagree but that is the awesome part of having personal opinions and individual perspective. We don't even agree on how to categorize this drama so there is a very limited chance we would agree on plot purpose and character motivations. You think it's complete I think it's lacking. To each their own :)

Also to add that the fated lovers is a pretty significant part of the drama. Almost every major revelation in the whole damn drama was how their lives were intertwined by fate, how they saved each others lives over and over. What other storyline element other than that has as much impact on the characters, story and motivation?

First of I love action dramas with elements of romance and comedy and this is not paced like an action drama imho. It has way to many heavy elements to be a straight light hearted romantic comedy so I would say political melodrama would actually be the most acurate description of genre with romantic comedic elements added. My suggestions had nothing to do with my personal preference because if it was up to me I'd have had more life and death on the run type moments evading capture and making the leads come together more intimately. And less antsy will they ever see each other, nonsensical "Nobel sacrifice" moments. Honestly, the pacing and mix of heavy/light subject matter seems pretty similar to a drama like Kill Me Heal Me is probably why my suggestions might seem to lean towards melodrama elements also over action elements. Agree to disagree I guess.

A little OT but this was the first kdrama on Netflix that popped up for me that was dubbed on the auto preview. I just stopped to watch with a cringy uncomfortable feeling. I've seen a lot of French and Spanish dubs but the Korean one was like nails on a chalk board level awkward sounding to me. Anyone else notice this?

If the Hong sisters would quit trying to create fantasy blockbuster dramas I would probably still adore them. But it seems like they start with the most brilliant concepts but in execution it just doesn't deliver like before. I've said for awhile stop trying to be so commercial and just be brilliant low budget romcom queens! They create the best romantic subplots (which always overshadows the main storyline in the best ways!) And create the most interesting characters. But it's like they are trying to hard anymore in visual BS it undoes the flow and hurts the production. I just really want another low budget production with interesting, shallow characters in nonsensically over the top but incredibly romantic fluffy situations. Throw in some subtle social commentary to make us feel like we are learning/achieving something but not enough to kill our sugar high from the cotton candy sweetness we have already partook!
