Title A River Runs through It Spoiler
This is not even a slow burn romance because for almost the entirety there isn't any fuse that has been lit. It's an obnoxious loop of ML lighting the match and the FL dumping a bucket of ice water on him saying "Oops didn’t see you there!" The friendship/life stories are sweet and endearing but the romance was ugh. This drama would have been 100% improved with less "romance" (I can't belive i would ever say that about a drama!) with actual progress! After the high school portion it just wasn't fun to watch the "romance" storylines dominate but go absolutely nowhere until the literal last few minutes of the drama. There are much better dramas with the same story set up, so I wouldn't recommend this one even if your bored.

I have an active fan since early mid 2000's, anime/manga from the 90's brought me into live action adaptations and dramas. So maybe ahjumma? True blood? Lol idk! I use to watch most dramas as they aired up until mid 2010's (except Chinese fantasy because it took forever to get episodes and if you needed subs you didn’t know if it's going to get completed. Fun times!) I try not to criticize fans but sometimes I have to disagree with another persons perspectives. I will add another characteristic of many long time drama fans is nostalgic bias. We definitely can spot antiquated ideas and problematic behavior in many older dramas but still enjoy them for what they were. Sometimes this leads to conflict with newer fans who think we have some affliction of moral bankruptcy lol.

Hey your comment was awesome! I'm going through medical stuff myself that impares my memory and ability to communicate. I really appreciate anyone who takes the time to engage my dumb question positively lol. You never know what people are going through and you didn't insult my ignorance and make me feel like a potato. So thanks!

I love this! After reading what you wrote I'm pretty sure I've heard it before but either way it's impressive they took the time to express such nuance in foreign language markets. To be fair though how many english translations of drama titles have been changed official in the past 15-20 years lol! So regrettably I really don't pay attention to most titles with any expectations of depth or nuance. This one managed to catch my attention though!

For many of us who've watched this same classic rom-com script played and replayed over & over and feel that it's…
You're not wrong lol! I love fluffy absurd saccharine fuled romcoms, early mid 2000's is when i really fell in love with them. They we're ridiculously clichéd and definitely socially/morally problomatic I adored every bit of those SK and Tiwanese dramas. So I definitely understand the high reviews and ratings from Netfix and similar streaming platforms viewers. Many are very casual or new drama users. For someone this might be their first or first of dramas. Still i generally give a review or commentary leaning towards a long-time viewer. People that care about my opinion (which can probably be counted on one hand lol) aren't generally newbies and I actually enjoy contradictory opinions and sometimes opposing perspectives have actually made me rethink my own drama bias. So good point!

It's a play on words. Definitely intentional.
I had a feeling it was purposeful because of the synopsis but not actually watching the drama I didn’t know for sure. I literally laughed out loud and came here so it worked advertising wise!

Disclaimer: I haven't seen this drama, nor do I have an interest in watching it at the moment becausethe story doesn't sound appealing to me.

All that being said I got a notification for this drama from Viki for a "watch party" and had to do a double take! I came here wondering if i was the only one and found some Africa controversy which just threw me for a bigger loop of wtf is going on here. So now to the point!

Who thought the title was (another word for pooping) Shatting Stars at first glance because of the astrics?! LMAO I'm so use to those in English censorship my brain auto corrected to poop! BWA HA HA! Is that the intention like a purposeful inside joke?! I really have not idea about this drama so is it accidental humor, a purposeful suggestive title because of the drama subject matter, or my inner 12 year old male spirit child needs to grow the fk up?! Ha ha any insight?!

I have no real strong feelings about the drama itself and that actually makes me a little sad! It's not even close to being a bad drama, even though it's loaded with a ton of clichés. The acting, production, likable characters and marginally toxic romance tropes (the way he manipulated her initially was eh but since he took responsibility for it and it wasn't really romanticized i give it a pass). It's just to much with to little going on!? All the obstacles are resolved to fast or just feel so unobtrusive in the big picture so it's like "meh". Like others have said it's a short drama but if you took out the nonsensical stuff you could have ended in six episodes. It's not dragged out though because the interactions are entertaining but to me is like very mediocre fandservice stuff. You're like oh that was a cute idea, fluffy or heartfluttering event but it wasn't necessary other than for that specific purpose. Which if I'm going to be 100% honest i love crazy, overly fluff filled, squee enducing dramas! But shallow character development and melodramatics are the usual formula with those. This drama wants to be one of those but has to much integrity and intelligence to commit to the needed insanity to land right lmao! Like settling for regular cheetos when you really wanted the flamming hot ones, it's ok but not as satisfying. It's just really good "meh".

Review You're My Pet
So does it cover the whole manga ??Should I go for the drama or the manga??
It doesn't cover the whole manga (like most dramas) and changes things to rush the ending. There is so much more backstory for all the characters in the manga but not everyone is a fan of the art style. It's also an older manga for most but if you like mature romance/slice of life stories It's worth the read. It definitely will give you an insight in the character's where all the dramas lack development. Otherwise i would recommend the Older Japanese version first (not to be mistaken for the korean movie lol. That's a different can of worms). It wasn't perfect but the characters/ story were better developed imho.

Since chu xia went back to her original time zone and fixed the mishap in that world aka 10 years in the past…
You should put this as a spoiler. I was scrolling down looking for some other info and this comment ruined the ending for me.

I honestly think a SK remake as is would bomb. But if you switched the main characters to women its got hell of potential! Nerdy super smart women trying to navigate society expectations and relationships successfully. SK is really male career and aesthetically focused so there is a huge amount of source material that would feel more natural if the cast were women lead instead. Just my suggestion.

I really thought the series premise was great but the majority of the storylines were mediocre at the very best (but for the most part sucked!)

But omg the lead and secondary couple were so adorable, Interesting, relatable and watchable! They 100% made this drama worth watching! I will probably never rewatch this drama but I'd definitely love to petition for a second season about two former gumihos turned human and navigating life as such! 😂🤣 no main storyline needed just a semi supernatural slice of life romcom My Boyfriend Was A Gumiho.

You can fight me if you want but i really liked this drama! It wasn't perfect but for a light romcom about persistence and healing it was good. I wish the ending hadn't been rushed so it could definitely have used a few more episodes.

This is not a sports drama! The FL has an ambition for taekwondo but it's not about taekwondo. The sport is just a device for the main storyline.

This drama is a dedicated companion type of romance. If you want sex and overtly passionate skip this! Because it's honestly about two adults who care, love, understand, respect and above all believe in while supporting each other. This is a Taiwanese drama so expect some corny slapstick humor and cliche romance bits but not to much. Probably the best thing about this drama was how they didn't linger in misunderstandings and have noble sacrifices. When roadblocks appeared they stood together for the mist part and supported each other. I love that so much!

Also the leads characters are a bit offputting at first but as the story develops and you learn more about their motives they are really great characters! Puff and Jiro did a great job acting in this, especially puff who is usually pretty shrill and overly animated. All in I liked the drama.

I don't think Sunwoo is annoying. I understand him why he like that toward Dam. He love Dam too much. He already…
Loving someone never gives you the right to ignore their wishes and invade their personal space. What you have described is the fairytale narrative the writer's are trying to convey. Unfortunately, in reality many men/women are stalked and physically/sexually abused or even murdered every year by people who "love them to much"! It's not an uncommon narritive in the past but with the fight of victims to survive in the real world it's a pretty a antiquated and dangerous narrative to perpetuate.

Spoilers from webtoonSun woo is only here to help Woo Yeo land Dam love story along
I figured as much from what others have said. But since this is a drama his character is way to substantial to be a placeholder wedge for the leads relationship. Like ive said before they should have fleshed him out as a true rival or used several throw away characters at the appropriate times. It wouldn't be the first time dramas have deleted or split or combined characters to fit the new narrative of LA. Or even dramas turning side characters into substantial roles. It's really unnecessarily problamatic imho. Seems like a lot of wasted potential for a writer with a pretty blank slate who has good excuse for creative license.

Title My Roommate Is a Gumiho Spoiler
The "red string of fate" in this story is trash! I love fate stories, i love seeing people overcome fate for love, pain, loyalty, etc but the way it's written here is trash. The writer's could have just as easily used a number of crazy inexplicable situations to bring Dam and Sun Woo together as per "fate". Instead ot feels like Dam is being victimized and because she sees the red string is hesitant/empathetic about Sun Woo's toxic behavior. No! That is a lazy and dangerous narrative to portray in the current political and moral climate of the world right now! She said no so enough!

If you don't understand what i mean by inexplicable situations one might be they are both stuck in an elevator by no fault of each other. The characters can't avoid each other by none of their own fault and that is situations where they learn about each other. It's just one example but had the writer's utilized such situations instead of the stalkerish behaviors it would feel more like fate and less "gagging noises". I haven't read the webtoon so idk if that is the exact vibe but I've been an anime/manga fan long enough to 100% guarentee that not every storyline translates well too live action. It is completely acceptable to use creative license in these cases. So if it's true to the source ok but still not cool. If it's not and some unnecessary character/story development twist ugh. Not cool!

Also sorry to burst the bubble of SL shippers but he really didn't have a chance from the very beginning. So if…
I I honestly thought the love triangle in this show felt so weak and forced from the start when i saw it coming back around i groaned. I usually like red string/fate plots but the two leads are so stinking cute with adorable fluffy moments. I think i kind of understand the awkward vibe of the love triangle because of it and how dam is being pulled hesitantly. It gives a bit more depth to her character because she is fighting fate.
