One of my favorite YA books growing up was called Locked in Time by Lois Duncan. I could totally see that being translated into an amazing Korean or Japanese movie. Idk if it has enough for a full length drama, maybe a high production web series. I'm not sure about other Lois Duncan books but could be interesting.
Ha ha I'm not going to lie there is probably a ton of great YA books from the 70-80's that could be updated to fit in really well as jdrama/Kdrama.
Interesting read. There are always an abundant amount of fun references to yokai legends in anime and manga if you decide to expand into other creatures :) I have always thought it was fascinating how in China and Japan fox legends are generally positive and good omens but Korean lore deviated into more nefarious motivations. But i think i like the korean versions more because of that ha ha!
I love dramas for sweet, fun, fluffy, swoon worthy romance. That being said understanding that 90% of dramas are absurdly contrived fantasy that screams "relationship goals" in our fangurl hearts but in RL is unrealistic, toxic crap ha ha! I hate giving dating advice! (Especially to people i know nothing about personally... or in general because my friends are lying b*tches when it comes to details about the guys they like!) Generically I think pursuing or asking a guy out first is okay in some situations but obviously not always. Potential embarrassment/pain of rejection VS regret for not trying. In the end the strength of your feelings/interest should give you the lesser evil between them. Just be able to recognize the RL fifty shades of crazy red flags beforehand ha ha!
That being said if your determined to confess already I'll recommend these delusional confidence boosters. There are many dramas where the FL pursued the ML/Confessed first. 90% guarantee things won't play out the same way but for me it's preferable to drinking to much trying to gain courage and drunk texting a crush ha ha!
ItaKiss,(all versions) Nodame Cantabile, (Both Versions) Master's Sun, Goblin, My Girlfriend is A Gumiho, Oh My General, You Who Came From The Stars, Sweet Dreams
Special mention for Oh My Ghostees ha ha!
Footnote: I'm still following the manga kurosaki kun no iinari ni nante naranai so i had to giggle a little because in that Yu is still not confident at all. I liked how they had her come out in the drama though.
I don't care how many times they remake it tbh I'd still watch! Every version has key elements but there is always a unique spin on it. ISWAK is one of my favorite adaptations. I'd honestly like to see a ItaKiss version where they follow through after Kotoko gets pregnant and has Kotomi. Still unexplored experiences.
This drama messes with your mind/emotions ha ha! The sweet parts I'm like "Awwwe!" then remember he's her stalker and why the gestures seem sweet then I'm like "What the actual f*ck!" Bwa ha ha it's great!
I haven't really watched any BL dramas (except in dramas as vague subplots) and I know this isn't a BL drama but the male leads have the best chemistry imho. So my heart is kind of breaking for Ding Ding because he is just so awkwardly sweet towards Liang on the DL (except the slap like wtf) and I can't help but root for the guys! Le yu is cute and funny (the amusement park was fun) but Liang and her as a romantic couple meh. They make better besties tbh if the guys can't happen having them all just stay friends would be ok with me. :)
I have hundreds of reviews on streaming sites from before I found MDL and my really early ones bwa ha ha! I think i commented about how someone eating noodles bothered me once! I think I'm a emotional and often petty reviewer though :) I write more reviews about dramas that had great potential but flopped. I think my biggest issue is because my favorite dramas are usually fluffy sweet and technical disasters so I find it difficult to write unbiased reviews. So I often just don't review and just comment bellow ha ha! I wish there were two rating systems on our lists one for technical and one for fan favorites. So i can say technically its a 7 production, story, etc but for fans of fluffy sweet rom-com's it is a 9 :)
It's weird that most of the participants thought that you shouldn't write a review if you haven't finished the…
I think reviews are okay for droppers as long as they say they dropped it up front in their review and why they couldn't finish.
My pet peeve was people dropping and all the negative reviews before a show finished. Since I think reviews carry more weight than comments because it's a final opinion so most people check reviews first when a show is getting popular (especially non regular MDL users) I can honestly say if I drop a show I rarely pick it back up, but I have sidelined a lot of great dramas because of reviews to pick up years later and regret not watching.
I think that is a big reason why some people prefer reviews from people who watch the entire show objectively just in case it gets better. I never drop before episode 6 (or 12 for hour shows because I've watched a lot of dramas that have shaky starts but finished good.
Actually, the reviews are hidden just till the show ends. Then all reviews show up for everyone.
Great! I don't have an issue with people reviewing when they drop a show but it really messed with the integrity of the system imho. Because for weeks all you would see is negative reviews or reviews just about how much someone loves *insert idol name*.
Plus people who write positive reviews early, get helpful votes, but edit their review when they dislike the ending was even worse. Glad it's changed :)
I think I have a real love/hate relationship with this drama. There are things I really like but a lot that is just ugh.
If you haven't seen the original stop reading if you don't want spoilers. When they changed the Mom obsession I think they killed the heart of the story. I think I could understand Yoo Chan better as a character if they had kept it to the original. Right now his motivations are so vanity driven it's beyond unattractive. In the original you understood his personality issues and obsession with the database but now it's just like why is he ? He really comes across too obnoxiously arrogant, and immature without purpose.
Also the relationship between the partners is not as good. Tae Joo was too perfect to begin with. Handsome, rich, confident, and seems way to young for the older brother/mentor figure imho. When he betrays Yoo Chan it didn't feel as impactful and the motivation to betray was really meh. If theybtry to redeem him like the original idk if id buy it. Where as in the original the personal relationship between the partners was such a great part of the drama. I mean in my opinion it was way more important than the romantic storyline. No it just feels like a lack luster plot device.
The sister was another wtf change for me lol! Tae Ra is just so damn unlikable as a character beginning to end. Where as the sister before was kind of more of a badass in her own way. I really liked her and understood her motivations more. She wasn't such a co-dependant character so you kind of got the appeal. In this version there is nothing that puts them together except vanity? Ugh. The whole artist plot was not bad but detracting in this drama. It didn't do anything to develop the characters or further ther story. It's just confusing filler that makes the show drag. It also makes her seem like she latches onto young creative guys, again ugh.
I like how they attempted to flesh out some of the sub character's a little better, the roommate storyline is a little melodramatic but interesting, unfortunately it also doesn't really add much to the drama though.
I think Bo Ra is too freaking cute! I love her character but unfortunately it just doesn't work very well in the story as is. If Yoo Chan wasn't such an ass, Tae Joo was more adorkable, and Tae Ra wasn't such a b!%@# I could understand why she is so trusting. But surrounded by all the unlikable people you just want to tell her to run! I want to watch her and her roommate melodrama in another show haha!
I don't think the acting is so bad, I just think that the storyline dragging and lack of believable motivation for character's killed it. I really couldn't care less if they finished the file project. At this point I'm just hanging out for the conclusion since I've come this far.
I'm sorry, but when we dropped a drama, what's the point on posting on "episode review" ^^"When you want to post…
It's not an official rule to not write a review before a series/movie starts or ends but it's considered poor forum etiquette. I'm not sure why admins don't restrict it but I think from reading it's simply not a possibility with the current system.
Now I'm going to say I don't disagree with your reasoning because you are right! Almost every drama I drop I hardly ever start again and if I do trudge through it usually doesn't rank high. I mean we know what we like right?!
On the flip side and the reason it's bad form is simply because one man's trash is another man's treasure. If everyone writes a review when they drop a drama all you will have until a drama finishes is bad reviews. Why? Because people who are going to give a fair review wait until they have a complete picture before writing their opinions. I mean you could go back and update after the fact but that messes with the system too.
Say you loved the series up until the end so rate it high. People agree and mark it helpful. The end comes and you edit to a poor rating. But that isn't the review others agree with. Review promotion/visability gets priority by the amount of helpful marks. If you have an opinion that is popular early on and change it a week or so after the show ends it messes with integrity of the system. So no one should review until they are done watching it.
Now back to droppers. People generally check reviews before forum comments. Maybe because they don't want to filter through discussion, maybe because they are not a regular forum user (search Google and came to page to find out what it's about etc), maybe because they only have ratings/review access. Whatever reason reviews are considered a person's final word (at least the point of the system) about a series/movie. Because of this reviews are more visable and generally carry more weight than a comment. So even though your opinion is unchanged and 100% accurate it gives others a false impression. Especially those who are not familiar with the system. I mean if you have 10 bad reviews talking about how bad a show is but 1000 unwritten reviews of people still watching you have created an unfair negative bias for a show.
This bias could cause real issues for a show in terms of popularity while it's running. You know most SK shows are film while airing. If people who have not started watching see commercial, clips or even ratings they might investigate to see what is up. When they see all the negative reviews they might decide to wait until it ends or a few episode to see if it gets better. Shows have been shortened and altered because of negative viewership and response. Suddenly an awesome show gets the short end unfairly.
Now tbh by statistics it is more unlikely that reviews by MDL are the deciding fate of a series, but even a small inaccurate influence is more than enough to warrant consideration by us imho. Especially if you are being considerate as to the purpose of a ratings system in the first place. It allows a person to get an accurate and fair opinions of a series/movie from others. Anything that cause inaccuracies is not beneficial to the system causing people outside the mdl community to not trust ratings. If you loose trust you lose views, interest, search ranking, etc. With that you loose revenue and interest. This is horrible for the MDL communities especially because they lack the unbiased partnerships many international shared forums about East/Southeastern Asian media have.
So when people ask please don't post a review until a show ends don't take it as "My opinion doesn't matter!" because we could 100% agree. All it means is we like our community and want to see it be as reliable as possible with the system/variables we are given. Even if you don't care about the community think about anytime you read a bunch of negative crap reviews by others and waitlisted a show/movie only to discover years later it was a top 10! Over my 20+ years watching these shows it's happened to me a lot. I can honestly say half the shows I sideline because of crap descriptions and reviews I end up liking. So if you are honest if a show is crap from the go chances are even if your review stating you dropped never happened people that agree would have dropped it quickly too.
In the end it comes down to the reason for having a review system and it's integrity. Early reviews, even if they are accurate are counter productive to the system and purpose of a rating system. So you're not wrong, you have a right to do as you will. Unintentionally alienating members is probably another reason why it's not officially a rule. Plus most of reviews stay the same and eventually everything mostly evens out when a show ends. So in terms of moderation it's probably easier to just wait instead of uneeded confrontation, especially from some very self important reviewers (people who believe they are a gift from heaven and their opinion is all you ever needed ha ha). In the end it's up to you to call BS to my comment, take it to heart or skip all together. In the end it's all just perspective anyway :)
I have so much respect to subbers and subbing teams! People are such jerks to wonderful volunteers especially on Viki I couldn't/won't deal with it tbh. Sometimes it makes you wonder why anyone does it for free with the abusive behavior of so many ungrateful users! I understand the age of immediate gratification is here but dang some of those complainers are out of bounds. Ha ha I think about being a fan of anime/drama when the internet was just starting to walk or even before the internet (if you didn't have a relative in whatever country to VHS rec it or live in a diverse area where rental stores carried copies you were SOL) When P2P clients started appearing back then it was magical even if it took you hours/days for 20 min questionably ripped videos. Subtitles? Ha ha ha you were excited just to watch the media! So I can't help roll my eyes sometimes when people freak out when subs aren't out an hour after a show aired. Honestly, watch a week behind if your so impatient or just pretend it doesn't exist until it completely sites to binge. Also learning new languages win-win! So many free resources nowadays with apps, programs, ebooks, videos. Anyone else remember cassette tape lessons and having to go to the library for language books ha ha ha. I mean I try not to be "that person" with the "up hill both ways" life story comparisons (every generation has it's struggles to be fair) but some people need to breath. ✌
Kim Jae Won, Yoon Si Yoon, Joo Won, Kim Soo Hyun, are a few that have great crying moments over multiple dramas. I know there are more older actors I'm not pulling off the top of my head also that cry amazingly. Crack open the drama vault you won't be disappointed.
A better ending would have been if he had already found her in the afterlife and like the teaser trailer where she was standing behind him and facing all those demons. Like this but different diologue:
It's a good movie if you have no expectations and enjoyed it for what it was instead of what it wasn't.
I personally think there was too much storyline for the short time available (as expected with movies). So even though it was entertaining it wasn't anything spectacular. The worst part for me with most live action movie adaptations is that you never have any real time to invest in the characters as individuals so when the death, sacrifice and injustice happens the emotional impact is just meh. As a fan it's easy to be petty and bitter when you feel disappointed because you know how great it could be if...but there isn't so it is what it is ha ha!
You are a better person than me ha ha! But thank you for your hard work.
Ha ha I'm not going to lie there is probably a ton of great YA books from the 70-80's that could be updated to fit in really well as jdrama/Kdrama.
