what ? could you explain ??
Art always cross pollinated. The same stories get told in all sorts of ways in all sort of cultures. There is no such thing as cultural appropriation in art. It is ridiculous to claim that any culture can own an art form or a genre as their exclusive right. It is doubly ridiculous to claim that in the 21 century. You don't like the drama, just ignore it.

She is not stupid, nor reckless. She is very smart, but not street smart, and yes she is a little bit naive and very idealistic, and she is just 18, and she has no idea who she really is. She is brave, playful, honorable, and kind. But I agree she is a bit annoying with her 'right thing ' routine and she meddles a bit too much :)

it is a very good story, imo. I had dropped it at ep 4 because I found her unpalatable, but came back later, and I enjoyed it a great deal, though I kept rolling my eyes at some of her cutesy stuff. She does tone it down midway, so it is less annoying.

Yu Shu Xin.... I need at least two people to explain why she's a good actor and why they think that she's so good…
I don't think she is a good actress, actually I think her acting range is very narrow. She is very good at cutesy routine, so I think the producers thought is was a perfect fit for a lowly pure plant full of love for all creatures. But to my eyes when she switched to the goddess and to the Devil her acting was flat . Personally I find her playing a baby a major turn off too.

Iโ€™m trying to give this a chance but she literally behaves and sounds like 6 year old child.
Yes, some say 8, some 4, now you say 6. I think she is playing a toddler for effect,. It is meant to convey how young, innocent, and pure this plant is. This cutesy routine is annoying and icky, but the character will somewhat 'grow out' of it in a few eps.

have you heard her voice, at the end, once she came back to life, and regained her memories as the godess? what…
I absolutely get it. I worked with cultural difference for a living, and I worked with a lot of Asians. Of course baby talk works! Domesticated cats adopted a pitch to their meow that mimics crying human babies - we are wired to respond to it. But not being Asian, watching anyone over 14 playing baby to get what they want, could irk others. I had to deal with problems in workspace between Western and young Asian women playing baby card. It created some animosity in the non asian population. It works other way around too. We live in a globalized society , so all sort of things come up for review that nobody questions in a homogeneous society . Brave new world .

Nirvana in Fire was good, but way too slow and static for me. Have you seen Phoenixes Rising? It got over-complicated midway and way too long, I thought, but the chemistry between 2 leads was one of the best, I think. And acting in general was extraordinary.

yes, it is a role where she needed to play 3 different ways. But frankly no teenager I know would ever behave the way Orchid does in the first 4-5 eps. It is not a teenager it is a very little baby, a toddler. I for one don't find it cute at all.

I could not get past the first few episodes. The FL acts too babyish. It seems like wasted time to continue .
It gets better midway. I dropped the drama after 4 eps because she was driving me nuts, but I came back to it a later. It is really good, though I kept wincing at some of her baby acting , but there was much less of it.

First of all - this is good drama, pretty enjoyable most of the time. However - whatโ€™s wrong with the fml voice?…
My 4 year old niece talks and moves in a more 'mature' way than Orchid does in some scenes, but I don't think there is anything wrong with her voice as such. I think she pitches it higher and does this halting thing to sound like a cute innocent baby. Combined with pouting, giggling, temper tantrums, discoordinated body language, and cutesy facial expressions it produced almost a cartoonish effect. I did love this drama though. ML and FM were great together, Dylon was excellent in the role , the story mostly made sense, and it was visually absolutely beautiful.

I agree, we see things differently. I am not from Asia. In my culture we deal with our feelings including being uncomfortable, ourselves. We don't try to make other people responsible for them. So if I found it uncomfortable to be exposed to other points of view, I would think why it makes me uncomfortable, or avoid reading posts on an international board with people from all over the world. Peace.

Absolutely it is mostly cultural. Perception is, and the infantilization is done by the culture. As one Chinese bloggers in her 30ties put it 'In China women are not allowed to grow up'. If a standard of attractiveness is baby cute, even women who have that cuteness naturally would still have to work at it. To the eyes of someone outside of a culture it looks fake and manipulative, not innocent. The fact is that the culture promotes this look and behavior, and it looks to many in the West unpleasant. And as much as Asia is entitled to have its culture and attitudes toward 'strong' and 'innocent' women, so does the West. We have our culture, our standards, and our ideas of what is attractive. Women were kept as 'innocent" "angels of the home" by the Western culture not so long ago, we all remember it, and it is not our ideal at this time. BTW that goes for men too, sometimes actors imo overact youthful adorableness. For instance I thought Dylon was over the top in The Rational Life, or maybe he was directed that way. As to this actress, I think she is adorable, and good in this role, but there are moments where to my eyes she overdoes it, and the camera overdoes it. It's like a glucose tolerance test . Just too much. That is my opinion, you of course are entitled to yours.

It is not about her voice. It is about facial expressions, body language, and not about her personally - this is ubiquitous in Asian dramas. Kindly refrain from telling people what they should and should not think or say, and do not presume to lecture. Everybody is entitled to express their opinion, even if others don't like them.

No, it is not about being 'strong' at all. It is about behaving normally. A female character can be sweet, charming, even cute, but baby talk and pretending to be 4 years old feels prurient, and in a romantic situation when an object of romantic attraction borderline perverse.
On Love between Fairy and Devil Oct 4, 2022
She is a sly little thing. All innocence, kindness and good intentions, while she lies around the clock and always gets her way. Dylan is so good in this, he has gravitas and comic timing. She is adorable, but sometimes gets on my nerves with the little girl act. 4 year olds are really not attractive as grown women, even if they are orchids ๐Ÿ˜. But I guess it is a cultural thing with infantilization of women all the way to babyhood. There is something a little off about it, but whatever.

Like the story, like FL, love her friendship. I liked 2 and 3 couples . Can't stand her nightmare of a mother, though she is probably quite typical for the culture,. Frankly I thought it was unrealistic to make her stay put because of this manipulative, artful, OCD harridan, but that is minor. My one gripe with the show is ML character . I think it was cartoonish, and immature, and Dylon is seriously overacting. It is as if he is possessed by the little orchid fairy :) . Also chemistry was off, I thought.
