I found this trailer for episode 37 on youtube. Even though it says it has English subs, it does not. Can anyone who knows Mandarin tell what is happening?. Youku int app does not have that trailer on
I do not cry easily, but I cried when I watched episode 35. Despite its flaws, there is something deeply touching and moving in this series, at least for me. Gong Jun was perfect, Dilraba too.
I've never seen ML act before but I will say, he could have had more facial expressions in the beginning; he seemed…
I do not think he is acting robotic at the beginning. HY is a very restrained character, keeping too many secrets so we can say he goes around with a poker face. The more challenged he is emotionally, he becomes more closed I would say. However, you are right there are many plot holes.
A better comparison to guage the quality and quantity might be Rebel Princess (China) and combined Arthdal Chronicles…
I am Caucassian and originally coming from an Eurasian country. I know many young people in the West are interested in Asian dramas and animes. China is also trying its hand in becoming a superpower, soft power is a part of this play and I will be shocked if they are not promoting their own dramas. Korea has gained itself a very respectable place in the drama/movie sector. I would be amazed if China does not intend to follow this path. In any case, I think it should be done, it would also bring diversity to global movie and drama market. It may still be years away, but I am sure it will happen.
God Forbid dubbing to english, no sir no. never!!!!! I don't like to read subtitle so I learn the language instead.…
There are options on shows like Netflix. You can either watch it in the original language with subtitles or a dubbed version. I prefer to hear the original language, but it is not everybody's choice.

Silk Road passed through India, Persian Empire and East Roman Empire, but I think they still would have seen China as the centre of the world. I am not sure about the time period because it is not a historical drama. It was not an observation about history, it was just a comment about how countries perceive others and the world in general. According to Wikipedia Silk Road was established in 130 BCE during Han dynasty. Perhaps CP is the one who established it 😁

However, they knew about other countries through trade on the Silk Road. They probably thought they were more sophisticated than others and for a period of history they were right. Japan was more secluded in that sense
I don't think that you can draw any conclusions from the comparison with US-produced shows. The cost of labour…
I am aware of differences and cost of production being lower in China. I just wanted to underline the budget issue for adaptations concerning lots of characters, complicated plots, war scenes, lots of sets and CGI. Planning would have solved some of these issues with a relatively higher budget. Novel is the source of story. It is producer's responsibility to accept or ask for revisions in the script before filming begins. Script writers would have to make adjustments during filming but I doubt of main chsracters or story lines would change during filming
I am procrastinating and avoiding to do the things I have to do till the last minute so I had a look at production costs.
I read somewhere on this forum that the series costed 500,000,000 Yuan. As someone who criticised production company, I decided to calculate the costs in comparison to some famous world productions. The production cost per episode is around 12,820,000 Yuan which is equal to approximately 1,800,000 USD per episode.
This may be a huge amount for a Chinese series, but if you compare it to the episode price of Game of Thrones, you can see that it is too low. During the first season, cost of one GoT episode was around 5-6 million USD. At the final season it was around 15 million USD. They also had a year in between seasons to prepare for the next season. In comparison to that, it is no wonder CGI is criticised harshly. I can understand that the cost of production would be lower in China, however, if Chinese TVs and production companies want to compete on the global stage, they need to invests more in the production and work on the preliminary stages of production more.
If they have planned it better, this could have been a perfect drama that would capture the hearts of many countries around the world. If they spend more money on production, they should also invest in dubbing as well for marketing in the world since there are still many viewers who do not like to read subtitles and want to hear characters speak at least English.
Even though I like the series, I see this as a wasted opportunity to make a good story perfect. 40 episode restriction of Chinese TV could have been overcome with good planning. Main actors are good, even though I think they could have done better with the casting of secondary characters like the child actor playing the youth of Luo Ming Xi. There is nothing wrong with the child actor, but the age is wrong. Details as such in a series can make or break a series. If they were not ready to invest the requisite amount, they should not have wasted the original story. I hope all of the three main characters can work with a better production company that would allow them to show more of their talents. Gong Jun and Dilraba are beautiful as well according to any standard of beauty and Liu Yu Ning is charismatic for global audiences. I hope to see them in another production in time. I personally prefer historical Chinese dramas to modern ones. Korea is far more better in modern dramas, China still has a lot to learn from them. However, Chinese historical and fantasy dramas are interesting and compelling, if they manage to invest more in them.
100%. Even the character used for China (中国) means "the middle kingdom" or "the center state."
All empires suffer from the delusion I guess. Some countries still do and as humans we are still conceited to think we are the center of the universe and ruler of all life and nature in the planet
I am also wondering how the hell Mo Shuan and Han Ye ended up together?
