The one who had a weak body condition was Mei Lin, due to all the spoil food she had after Qinzhou great arson.…
It's a detail I'm not convinced with ;) I've checked and the servant's did say "hwang hou" indeed. But it wasn't any official situation, and more than 10 years had passed so they can call her as they wish. (probably not knowing her name too)
If what you're saying is true, it would be SUPER strange for the drama makers to not show us: - finding the flower - taking it by Mei Lin - information that it worked or prolonged her life - any happy moment of them together after Jing He's coronation
It would be enough to show just one of them to make your conclusions believable. Working only on the assumption that they had to give her the title, while the whole drama is not that strict with its plotlines or reality in general looks very risky. Even making a concrete time span out of it. Usually there're more small hints of what had happened (if it happened)
And the whole ending is just sad, with a tiny gleam of "what would have happend if none of this story took place".
Did you notice that on the Jing He's coronation he has beard? In a certain age men in historical/fantasy C-dramas grow it to mark their respectable (/older) age. And I guess: once grew, it's never shaved. He had no facial hair while Mei Lin was around ;)
I feel I've said everything there could've been said on this topic XD

Thx for making me sure "Story of a pearl girl" might not be for me ;) But funny thing I find that in most C-dramas it's not so black&white. Even if you're a villain it might be "the good ones" who have named you so for their own not-so-respectable reasons, or there're some serious reasons you had turned out like this. But I don't watch a lot of C-dramas ^^' I can only point " Ashes of love" with not really heavenly emperor, and the character journey of Run Yu (I'm a fan of this actor since then<3); "Love between fairy and devil" - DongFang QingCang has his own story. Oh in "The Untamed" also it was nicely shown how easy is to transit between "good" and "bad", or how prosaic the reason might be for a true villain to be born - although I might think more about the novel here, I don't remember if Xue Yang's story was in the drama? But actually it can also be applied to the main villain whose name I cannot recall...
I was thinking that everyone might've call Mei Lin the empress between themselves, despite her not being an actual empress ;) Indeed in most of the dramas such edict and the ceremony is taking place and is required, however I don't feel this particular one shows and sticks strictly to all of the customs. There also might be smth with the translation.
P.S. Thank you! <3 I like your nickname - I hesitated to write this earlier XD

Yep, I was joking ab the immortality;) It was like a legend in the drama, but to highlight how special the flower is. That's why I assume it could really heal any poison. But on the other hand in the Chinese fantasy there's never certainty. An immortal can die, but not totally, but if they do, they still could be saved and so on and so on. The king however just ate the flower raw, while Yue Qin was pointing out that it's need to be prepared beforehand - but he might've just keep trying to snatch the flower. Since we've touched The Xiyan's king - I find it waaay to boring and flat that the king was only obsessed with "gaining immortality" and his character didn't have anything else. If the writers didn't want to build it, why gave him so much on-screen time?
But Mei Lin died before he was crowned. They were living in that house in Qingzhou, she died there, then after unknown time (but seems to be a few years) Jing He's moved to the palace to be the king and after 10 years died alone. It was known he had loved only Mei Lin and didn't make his harem or took a concubine nor wife, that's why the servants refered to her as "the empress". That's how I feel.

But The Dragon Whisker could grant immortality, so why you don't believe it could neutralize momai even if her condition was very poor? ;) And shouldn't finding the flower and/or using it be shown? Like, really, it's an important moment. We saw when Jing He was searching for it and how he couldn't find it. I might have been unfocused when watching but where did you get 15 years from? Oh I went back to the last ep, he became the emperor in the 29 year of Zhaoming (his father's) reign (and it wouldn't have happend right after Mei Lin's death), and died 10 years later. The story really begins in the 25 year of Zhaoming.
Nvrm how many, they need to communicate with each other and make sure the whole thing is comprehensive. On the other hand it might be justified that plotholes or "bad idea" can happen or were overlooked by 1-2 writers. But when there are 6 of them? No excuse for stupid ideas.
Normally I need to force myself to watch the first ep of Chinese fantasy drama - they're often so boring, but I keep going bc I know it might turn into one of my fav dramas, as it happened a few times already. But here? I was hooked almost immediately. Interesting vendetta, great female lead who can fight and is bold and fearless. Male lead's arc was also well written (I only wondered why he speaks so slow-his every line had the same tone, and the actor barely moved his lips😅).
But at some point overdramatisation takes the lead. And we get more and more strange and unreal moments, which there are just to lead the story in the specific direction. I didn't like the change in Luomei, it was to fast and incomprehensible. Actually it was the beginning of this drama dropping. And forced Zigu thread was ugh!
Still I absolutely loved the momai arc! And how it ended. So I don't regret watching it, but most likely won't rewatch itXD I rated it as 7,5 (a half just for the ending;))
Okay I’m confused so can someone please spoil me. Did Mei Lin die (?) in ep 27 after hanging herself? Or she…
Indeed she didn't die but fake her death and I'm still wondering how she survived for DAYS without body functionsXD and that her body didn't start to rot in the meantime
The one who had a weak body condition was Mei Lin, due to all the spoil food she had after Qinzhou great arson.…
I don't think they've lived for a few years together though... If they would have found The Dragon Whisker, shouldn't Mei Lin just live? Wasn't it supposed to save her, not only prolong her life for a few years? In my opinion they've lived together for 1 or at most 2 months. I'm not sure if the flower appears "with the snow" or "with the first snow", and it's super rare. If it's the latter, he couldn't find it this winter so there wasn't any hope, since Mei Lin wouldn't live to the next one. A flower that blooms with every snow wouldn't be that rareXD
watch the extra ep, the ML doesn't die, he lives happily with the FML, though his subordinates do die
Maybe she doesn't smile bc she doesn't see him YET? XD Also if not for a special ep I might also think he died bc he looked kinda like a ghost: red-clad on white horse and she's also in red, waiting - as if they can met each other only after death. Plus he was in a tight spot on the battlefield. However it also can be (and most likely is) an artistic depiction of how a groom comes back to his bride. And I think the director added the special ep for Westerners who, otherwise, would've always wondered if he died there or not - without the scene of their reunion clearly shown ^^' (which I also kinda miss, not bc of the clarity, but it's nice to when characters are happy when they areXD)

I've never heard of or seen a special episode which only purpose was "to please the fans", as an alternative ending. I'm not fixated on happy endings but it's clear he came back. The delay might be bc of wounds of other battles he needed to lead.
Hi, Razi! Thank you very much for your sensitive comment! It's realy a joy to know that the article fulfills its…
"While words in Western languages are like defined bricks, with defined meanings and sounds (...)" Ouch, that was harsh. If you woud've written it about the writing system - I would agree though. Hanzi are definitely beautiful. But tones are NIGHTMARE. In any language, as Chinese isn't the only one one which has them. It's worth to note that because of the tones, insane amount of idioms and ambiguity, the possibility of jokes are out of this world :D If I were Chinese I would make a lot of Chinese-learners friends so they can practice with me (and lift my mood up). Check out videos with funny mispronouncing mistakes. I'll share the one which really stuck with me. A Chinese learner wanted to say smth nice to his Chinese friend, and (he thought) he said "oh! you look nice today!" but ended up saying "oh! your foreskin looks good today"😂
Hi, Not Your Oppa! Thanks a lot for your comment. About the tree: The Double has many non-explicit narratives.…
Thanks a lot for taking your time to elaborate once more. But you didn't have to explain who Dali was ;) And that's kinda bold comparision to be made, imo. But nevermind. About the white horse, there's also a meaning with it in outside Asia. A knight (or prince) on white horse - he comes to rescue, be default he distinguishes himself with high moral code, integrity and bravery. In that terms Fangfei was really Xiao Heng's "knight on white horse" then :D
