What? Mandatory military service is nowhere a part of culture nor tradition. In South Korea it is bc of the war. The war between South and North Korea hasn't ended, there's only "ceasefire" which lasts for 72 years now.
Also it's "South vs. North" on the surface but everyone know bigger countries were envolved...๐Ÿ˜ฌ

Whatโ€™s wrong with the love scene?
If you say it like this it only sparks interest ;)
As I'm not taking this show seriously (like other Thai dramas I watch) I think those scenes were quite satisfying, although actually too long - sorry for writing it, dear fans ๐Ÿ˜‚ I enjoyed it too and think it's pretty hot, but 10 min? Or more even? But I appreciate there's not much moans, screams and other sounds.

I'm not sure about which one are we speaking here. The first one at the end of ep 7 was better, but I think Kaning acted a little like a girl๐Ÿ˜…
I've just seen the second one, and ugh: profanity of a fine brush๐Ÿ’€*joking* But I laughed a lot as it's not only Bodyguard in Thai gay remake with royals, there's also a pinch of Titanic in it๐Ÿ˜‚ Thou "goodboy" - WTF?๐Ÿ’€

*Oh right, there're also the bdsm ones. Not a fan so I don't even remember them๐Ÿ˜‚ I was writing only about the main couple.

I rate only after watching it till the end or dropping bc it was so horrible. If it's so-so but I don't wish to keep watching I might not rate at all. But funny thing, bc the notes I give don't even try to be objective, they show my enjoyment, and I happen to enjoy a lot a series which was objectively poor (like Addicted XD), after some years passed I lowered my rating for a few titles - wondering why did I like it so much๐Ÿ˜‚ But then I thought it's normal that different things we find great being younger and different being older. So I just change my fav lists๐Ÿ™ƒ

The Great Rating Drop: Math EditionAt first glance, it looks catastrophic, right? A fall from 9.0 to 8.6 feels…
Being able to rate a show just when it starts, it's a HUGE mistake and MDL is doing it to itself๐Ÿ˜‡ Sometimes 1-2 episodes at the beginning are boring and then it starts to get better. Or the opposite. The rate should depict OVERALL feeling and opinion AFTER watching the drama - or after dropping it bc it was so bad in one's opinion๐Ÿ˜‰ Now fans of an actor/tres, novel, orignal story, anything rate, but not a show - as they couldn't see it yet. Later when the viewers come and really rate it, the notes tend to drop. 9 for this one? Totally overscored.

Maybe another barometer should be added to measure the hype/expectations/can't-waiting?
As for pure haters I don't know how to deal with them๐Ÿ˜” But there should be a way for that too!

What a hell is this heaven....

Netflix translated this title for me as "Love in heaven", but it's Korean/Asian version of heaven. Though we could expect that, right?๐Ÿ˜‚ A heaven where you have to wash the dishes??? Some souls go to work? Where you fear, sadden, get angry, tired and have to pay for your meals - so when your good deeds end you're bound to reincarnate? Or feel eternal hunger?๐Ÿ’€ Oh and don't forget violence, it's forbidden, but can take place.
I watched it for Kim Hye Jaโค๏ธ but the whole drama was a little too slow. Especially Som I part. But still it was interesting, I wanted to solve all the mysteries. And the hell was surprisingly brutally depicted - I didn't expect that and it wasn't really necessary in my opinion.

I do too! :D One of my fav stories (I'm fully aware of it's "rougher parts"), but manga and anime were the best ;) Then I guess the Japanese version. Taiwanese was funny and decent but they've butchered it in season 2 ๐Ÿ˜ถ The Thai one... I don't remember that well^^' maybe it was ok but at the end had become boring?
I haven't seen enough Cdramas to notice it's in every story, but I got a glimpe of this trope. Weird... I can add another Kdrama to your list - Personal taste, I think it was my first Korean drama ever. That makes 2 titles with such a thread.
I don't mind "sharing a room arc" although it's clichรฉ, so better be well rooted in the plot. It were all things around it there: her saying many times "but I don't want to do it" (they were going on a trip; she was ok, let's go, but we won't take another step in our relationship) and him agreeing to it. Then that shit at the hotel. Same in the room "I don't want to" and "if you do smth you'll be a dog", he "woof"๐Ÿ’€ Irking me to this day. I ranted a lot ab it here.๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

The BOF's original story (Japanese btw) is from the 90' ;) That explains a lot. Maybe Chinese didn't have (but want to) their own Winter sonata moment -> this story was so horrible I dropped it and still can't comprehend why was it a hit back in the day.

Now thinking about it, costume dramas has PLOT, aside from romantic progress. While those tagged just as romance - doesn't. When you have a weak scenario there's nothing much you can do apparently. Maybe there's a need to self-censor more while making modern romance stories? While when it's fantasy, in a fictitious world there's much more freedom?

If anyone know a nice Chinese drama, set in modern times, which doesn't have shit like "I can't wait anymore"(from male lead) or giving a receptionist hidden signs so he'll lie there's no 2 vacant rooms and they have to share 1 room - feel free to let me know :D

A true mistery!!

Indeed, lucky us we don't have to think what would happen if she didn't want him -> 'cause it's dramaland and ofc she will XD
Another alleviating fact was that we really could understand how traumatised Ling Xiao is. For years. Since childhood. So it wasn't the case: I'm so macho and I'll get what I want -> which would be unbearable.

I 've lost interest in modern Chinese dramas mostly bc of this. Their female leads are - meh, male leads - bumptious and self-concerned. Like their drama makers wanted to push on us conservative "values" from bygone era. Maybe it's not that bygone everywhere๐Ÿคท๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ
However fun fact -> it's totally oposite when it comes to Chinese fantasy or costume dramas. The female characters there can create their own life -> although it's said that some think they should only obey and they're "just women" justifying it with dark ages - which is understandable, irking but that;s how it was - still some women will challenge that order. And men also have fuller personalities more human-like. They both encounter hardships and makes decisions on their own as well as punishments. Also real values like respect, honour, fidelity and moral code are present.

Maybe I wasn't clear enough. His mother IS definitely toxic and it's hard to watch her. I didn't mean I justify her actions. But she wasn't just the wtf villain who only irks everyone. Like in the Korean version ;) There she was just mental and I wanted to send her to a padded room ;D
In the Chinese one, her character had a touch of real life. I thought, ah that could happen, there're ppl like that.

Hi chingu :D Bc of you I've started The Sparkle... 5 eps passed but I find it chaotic @_@ The drama's making, realization. Purely the director's fault, 'cause the acting is good.
Also imo it should be on MDL. Everything is Chinese, just broadcasted on streaming platforms, if not Chinese what country would it be then?

*I have to ask: from which drama (I bet it's Thai!) is the 9th gif on your profile?? (9th from above and 9th from below, the perfect middle)

Could anyone be so kind and paste exactly what she's written? This site is only for logged users :/
The amount of naivety and childishness^^; In Xie Lian's behaviour e.g. after their underwater kiss/air-exchange or when he wanted to CPR Hua Cheng... I get the story is cute (mostly) but c'mon, dude is older than Hua Cheng waited for him (was it 800 years? I've forgotten!>:O) I was embarrassed a few times reading such nonsensical reactions. Awkwardness - OK; super hyper panicking - not OK. As well as that long "giant's" moment, it felt like taken from a kid's cartoon. But, there'll be an official edition of TGCF in my mother tongue, translated straight from Chinese, so I plan to read it \ (โ€ขโ—กโ€ข) /

*Its title should've been "when it doesn't fit, it just won't fit"

It was wooden or bamboo so not that surprisingXD Just a major shame it lead to THE interruption. From the owner. Nr 1 will be my choice, 2nd TGCF (I feel a little too old for it^^" but it has good moments too ;) the biggest cringe was the giants fight-I'm not sure tho, I might read unfocused and/or had bad translation), and Scum-Villain was pure ๐Ÿ’ฉ
