Personally loved Where Dreams Begin (Youth Memories lol - prefer WDB as the name). I know it is a period drama and might not be appealing like modern dramas or costume but it was REALLY good. And I went in thinking it was going to be boring but it really surprised me with how well it was written. Probably my 2nd favorite drama of Xiao Zhan and I have rewatched it a few times.
TLP is good as well if u like fantasy/pain lol. I think u should just decide on what ur feeling. But since WDB ended u can start with that and maybe by than TLP will be far enough that u can binge that as well lol.

1. The ML's master was in love with the ML's mother so for revenge he is trying to manipulate Shi Ying to become the emperor and destroy all those that hurt his mother. So, in a way he is manipulating him but he is also helping him. He does care for Shi Ying and wants the best for him but he crosses the line in almost becoming manipulative. U can think of it as an overprotective dad in a way. He loves Shi Ying but prevents him from meeting new people, dictating his life and telling him what he can and can't do.

I think anyone at the top will get a lot of hate - its not because they think the person is good or bad they just hate that the person is competition with their fave. And sadly a lot of sites use that against people as well. Like "buy these flowers and see who becoems #1" or on weibo "see who is #1 on the supertopic charts" and all of these charts in general. Of course when an environment is like that people are going to fight those they think are in their faves way. Xiao Zhan is #1 so everyone is going to pull him down.

That is true - I was just worried that he would stop doing costume dramas and there are still so many roles that I want him to take lol. Wuxia is fine - I feel like the characters in that drama tend to be the same type anyways (cold and lonely). So him doing one should last him forever.

I do agree that influence from outside pressures will influence some peoples decision and most people know how great XZ looks in those costumes. I know in the interview he did for Shi Ying he was saying how he wasn't goign to do period dramas anymore but here he is still shooting it lol. But it does make me feel like he won't pick that script over a modern drama. So, maybe we wont get that many roles from him in costume . . .but still hoping he shoots a few lol.

I feel like the majority of FL's in xianxia dramas are like Zhu Yan. Sort of naive and childish and just spoiled - she kind of reminds me of the FL in AOL. I am seeing some character development or at least understanding of why she is like she is. But its nice to see that she wants to improve and actually show that she can stand with the rest.

I think he loves her but is just so consumed with hate that he thinks the only way to show he loved her is by getting revenge. And of course to make her son become emperor because that is what he thinks she would have wanted. But I feel like he keeps crossing the line by trying to control his life - he pretty much stranded him all alone for 5 years on a mountain with his only companion being a bird.
His life had no joy since we saw from the bridge instead all he had was the hope of oen day saving his mother. Which in the end was taken away from him as well. Professor Snape is like the father that is trying to protect his son but instead harming him and trying to control his every movement.

He can't marry Zhu Yan if he is emperor because according to customs he has to marry someone from the Bai family. -Shi Ying and Zhu Yan get married because he isn't the emperor and so he doesn't have to fulfill that promise
